i'm doing a solo trip to spain at the end of the month.. this will be my first land trip going alone (not with any tour group) I have two sons who travel all over the world by themselve so I figure, why not me too But, on a cruise its easy, you know where you are going each day, know where youll have dinner. can join a shore excursion. Im a little more nervous about the land trip, since I really will be totally on my own. but i am so looking forward to it....i really think tho for a person traveling alone cruising is a great way to go...ill be doing a 20 night med cruise in sept... and sure hoping there might be some other single people aboard.. just would be nice to have some folks to hang out with a bit. In nice thing about cruising alone, if you want company, you can always find some, but if you want to just be alone, no one will bother you.

Bobbi, you'll have a great time in Spain. I've mostly done landtrips for many years, they are usually best to really see and experience a place. I love to cruise, love time at sea, however port stops are too short to really experience a place. Prefer crossings or repos just use as something relaxing to get from point A to point B. The best landtrips are going to a place in their shoulder or offseason with no reservations, rent car and go, when you see a place you like stop in for rooms. Incredible way to travel and on the spot discounts. Go and enjoy! Have a great time in Spain. I love Spain been there twice landbased.

I will be cruising on the Carnival Glory solo with my 3 year old son. It will be a blast :) I am sure but it would also be nice to meet a single mom  who is cruising with her child.

If the meet and greet isn't a good way to meet someone, are there any other pointers ? It isn't critical for my trip to be a success but it would be nice to spend time with someone of the opposite sex who is like-minded :o.

I am also sailing solo on the Glory 2/6/10.

First solo cruise, looking forward to it.

I am 60 years young...

Will have fun regardless of what is going on.

Have already booked Nachi Cocum, in Cozumel

and a Wave Runner Stingray City tour for the Caymans.

Not sure what I will be doing in Belize or Roatan.

However, I am leaning towards Tabyana Beach

in Roatan..

Roll Call has a pretty good thread going for the Glory

2/6/11, check it out...

;) :o

I'll be planning a singles cruise next year. Not yet over the passing of my wife, so when I'm ready to mingle again, I'll be stirring it up with the best of them. I've cruised a few times before and love it. I think a ship-board romance is something movies are made of. What a wonderful way to vacation.

Hi Lois. I've only sailed on Carnival for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I've always had a great time. Second, the other lines seem to always be higher. And third, I enjoy the atmosphere. I figure why pay more when I can just get more cruises instead. lol I would like to try another cruise line at some point just to be able to make a true comparison, but can't justify paying for 7 day cruise on another line when I can take a B2B for almost the same amount or just a little more. I do check the prices of other lines when I'm looking for a cruise but always go back to Carnival.

I did notice some specials that were listed in the one thread but I'm already booked next month on a 7 day Truimph, 3 & 4day Imagination so I didn't look any further.

I love CC because most of the people here can relate to what being addicted to cruising is like. lol

-Mark

Hi Mark,

I have sailed many cruise lines including Carnival and Celebrity. I look for prices as well and often find fantastic prices on Celebrity. I often find lower prices on Celebrity of similar length and itinerary as Carnival. While I have fun and enjoy Carnival I would highly recommend you check out Celebrity.

Gotta Cruise,

Lori

Hi, I just stumbled on this board when looking around for other posts. I'm a single 51 yr old woman and have been on many sailings with RCCL and mostly with my two sons (now 14 and almost 17).

I've been fortunate to have found Cruise Critic early on so I was able to meet others (families, couples, etc) before the sailing and then make some friendships when sailing.

But like most of you women here, I've never met any single men while onboard, hmmmm. I even had a head matri'd seat me at a table he "thought" had a single Dad at but he was wrong, weird. LOL! This Dad was married and she was just late the first night to dinner.

Anyway, I would just like to meet someone to have a drink with, hang out with around the ship such as trivia, casino, piano bar, or just plain act stupid with. I've also looked in on those singles nights and there's nobody usually there or they're in their 20's or 30's.

So, it's good to hear there are single men onboard! I'll have to keep my eyes open on my Aug 15th sailing on the Monarch.

...worked for me on Carnival. Cruised with my teenage son and daughter and met single men and women at the meet and greet who I spent time with while on board and met up with months later too. Trying something new this year, taking 2 singles group cruises, July from NOLA and Halloween from New Jersey. Hope the men reading these posts figure out how much fun it would be to sail with all the single ladies and join us! Two or three to one, what single man woundn't think that's a bonus? Yamaha

The Single Halloween cruises are a lot of fun. BTW, think I remember you from another board, hope all is well.

Hi Snowbird, I'm embarrassed to admit I don't remember you, haven't been on the cruise sites much lately, can you give me a hint that might help spark my memory? Last cruise was to Hawaii, looking forward to the next two!

Wasn't on a ship or cruise, just from another singles website (can't mention name here). A least I thought it was you, same login name.

Yes Vince you are correct that is me.:) That was about 3 years ago, and your title is different on that site.:p Still cruising single and loving it, nice to hear from you, hope you're having as much fun with cruising and life as I am. I just got back to Idaho from visiting and exploring my 50th state. I started a quest about 5 years ago to visit all 50 states and I just accomplished it! Guess it sounds like I'm bragging, and I am:D. Proud to have had the opportunity to see all 50 states and am soon starting on the other territories that are part of the USA like the Virgin Islands, Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico...

Whats up with older men? Don't they want to see the world? What better way than taking a cruise. I have been on several cruises by myself, and there are plenty of single women.....

We single men do cruise, lots. But unlike single ladies who almost always travel with a friend to share cabin, men usually don't do that so it costs us almost twice as much for every cruise. It's an outrage!!!!! The ships are NEVER, ever 100% booked so what is the logic of chargig for a phantom person as the second one in a cabin? Just an excuse to rip us off, and to make me, for one, cruise far less than I otherwise would.

Lori,

Let me know those cruises when Celebrity is less than or even equal to Carnival. I LOVE Celebrity. If you hear of any, I would be most appreciative... privada-summer@usa.net...... thanks, William

I'm a single "mature" male who cruises. Lately I have been shifting my cruise travel from the Caribbean to the Med. This fall will be my third year there in a row. Much more interesting itineraries. Can't say I have met many single ladies on these cruises though. Maybe going to Europe is outside the comfort zone of most single women? If so, it's too bad because cruising is a safe and easy way to see some wonderful places in Europe.

I'm 42 and usually travel with my family (brothers, sisters and thier families). I went on the Destiny 2 years ago and the "sigles meet and greet" for my age range was a bust. I stopped by and it was only me... quite dissappointing. Come to think of it, I've can't remember meeting a single woman on a cruise...

I have no problem traveling by myself, without my extended family. So far when I do that, I go on land based vacations. I guess it's easier for me because I'm a talker... I like to meet the locals, go to out of the way places that the locals go. Cruise ships are always so busy, and packed with other tourists, I guess. I'm not sure I'd go on a cruise as a single, on my own.

Although... That being said... I am planning a trip to Europe next year... A cruise would be the way to see alot of Italy, France and Spain... Hmmm... now you got me thinking...

thats exactly what i am thinking. i just dont know if i will find any other singles. i am 46 and would like to go on a singles cruise but from what i am reading they are either very unorganized or nobody shows up. its a pretty expensive chance to take. i am the shy type at first but once i get talking i am just fine. its been along time since i have " been out there " but since the divorce i guess i have no choice ( lmao ).

my pricepoint zone:(

You'd think, right?? Who knows and I have tried going to the single parties but nobody usually shows up so I just gave up on that one.

Phil, I have to agree with Lois about the Med cruises. It's difficult and I know I'd love to visit more places besides the Caribbean but there's still time. I loved the cruise I did around Cape Horn! That was the best yet and will be hard to top that one! :D

Well that is true, not many people ever show up at those but I feel one of he main reasons why is the cruise staff does a terrible job trying at promoting interest in it. They also have it generally at the worst times. If they spent a small fraction of the effort they do on bingo on trying to help singles and solos meet in an organized fashion it would be really nice. Want to clarify and say we are talking about the normal everyday cruises, not the big Singles hosted cruises which are totally different.

Oh you went around the Cape Horn, I bet that was a good one. I have been blessed and had the opportunity to do many nice cruises as well but not that one yet. I actually have what I call a bucket list for cruises and did one of them this year.

BTW, have you met Lois, she lives not too far from you and loves to cruise as well.

Hi Lois :)

How are you! Glad you had a great time on your coastal cruise. :D

Have to agree with you about the prices being higher in Europe. To make it affordable, I've limited myself to one week cruises plus a couple of nights in the departure port (eg Barcelona, Rome etc.) Plus you have the advantage of low-cost fares to your departure ports for the Caribbean.

My flight to Rome from Canada is only $200 more than a fare to Miami or San Juan.

I agree with you completely. This is precisely why there aren't more single cruisers. Who in the world wants to pay double for a cabin??? Two single dudes sharing a small intimate cabin? I don't think so!

I'm a 42 year old married male - went on a cruise with my younger single brother once and shared a cabin with him, and let me tell you I was freakin miserable. I'll never do that again. IMO, it's best to cruise with a significant other to share the experience with. I couldn't imagine going alone. I really feel for the singles.

Being single didn't seem to phase my brother though. His strategy is to lower his standards - if she's breathing and has a pulse, he'll hook up with her (lol). A cruise is entirely what YOU make of it. If you are friendly and outgoing and have got game, you will find the singles. However, if you are shy and don't like to approach people, you're better off trying to meet someone at home and bring them with you.

to work:rolleyes:. I will get there one day! And you have mail too:)

I am 53 and a female and could not imagine a different scenerio.

I have no desire to share a cabin with anyone, Male or Female.

I think this is the big difference between this "singles forum" and

the other "Solo Forum". Hooking up with someone is the last thing

I think about when cruising.

You cannot imagine going alone? I have lived on my own for more than

25 years......I have a good job, own my own home and love to

cruise. Going solo is my choice and I am quite happy with it.:)
