I would probably vote for most, if not all of the specialty restaurants. If you asked a group of 8 year olds what they wanted to do most on their first day at sea, how many would opt for dressing up and spending several hours in a romantic restaurant enjoying the foie gras?

Sorry to confuse the matter, Ladder. I have no objections. If they find a way to do it, I won't object and I agree with every single thing you said in this post. What I have been consistent on is thinking that it is not a major issue on cruise ships, or at least it hasn't been for me (and at home I'm like Terry in that I always seem to sit near the wailer and/or food thrower), so it doesn't seem worth the logistic difficulties of setting aside one space, out of a very finite space.

 

I'm sorry that debating this with me is like kissing your sister. So, I guess I should bow out of the ring. :)

I voted yes. Like PP's said, Disney has an adults only restaurant & pool. We loved that when we sailed with them about 4 years ago. Even though we had our 10 month old son w/us on the jewel last week, we were still hoping for an adults only pool area. thankfully we traveled w/a lot of family so we were able to dine at speciality restaurants w/o him. but we did take him to Cagney's after our day in Cozumel and he did wonderfully. But I was thankful that the place was empty at 7 pm. literally, it was empty! i couldn't believe it!

I vote yes. Just because you love your kids doesn't mean everyone else does too. My husband and I both work in industries that involve kids(rn and teacher) and we would really appreciate an environment that does not include them. There are many parents that have well behaved children, but all it takes is a few who have horrible parenting skills to make it a rough sail for everyone. With so many choices now with dining on cruises, make at least ONE adults only!

I cannot believe so many would deny my seventeen year old grandson the opportunity to enjoy French food at Le Bistro or a filet at Cagneys on his birthday so they could dine in an adult restaurant. I think the ship should have adult only areas and adult shows(late night, early morning). Our young daughter has been on at least eight cruises and she can be very good at times but she has her moments and there should be places where adults can go and be kid less. She loves eating in cagneys. I think bars(siting at) and casinos they should not be.

As I mentioned before, Don, what I am aware of are restaurants with multiple dining rooms setting aside one for adults only. That being said, if the age was 18, those not 18 would get over it, they will have many opportunities to enjoy upscale dining throughout their lives..Plus, we are taliking one dining room, not all of them

Nita when it comes to cruising I will be the first to say you know your stuff.

When it comes to restaurants I know mine. The best and most expensive restaurants in the world do not have adult only establishments because it is a marketing mistake. What some do is not offer booster seats and no kids menu.

 

As I stated in an earlier post my husband is a restaurant consultant and has worked with the most famous consultants and restaurants in the US and now England.

My husband said a few states have had adult only dining and they do not do well. He did not love his one and only cruise on the Gem. Cruising is not for him, which is why I cruise with my Son and friends:) He did enjoy Le Bistro very much from the service to the decor and my son was the only child/teenager there enjoying the ambience. Would I bring him there at 6 of course not he did not like Escargot at that age and could not sit in a chair for more than 20 minutes:)

 

For us so far we have only cruised in suites so its not a problem we can get reservations on any nights and have room service from any of the restaurants. For the people who complain now about not being able to get in to any of the restaurants this would make it impossible unless NCL changed over to larger main dining rooms with set times like the other lines.

 

I have no idea about the dining on the new Epic maybe NCL will give it a try with a larger ship they have more room to experiment.

 

So for those who want a romantic night out go to Le Bistro I dont think you will see many or any children. As of now if adult only dining is a must for you book a different cruise and move on IMO.

There are in fact adult only restaurants on land even if you have not seen them and there is nothing Constitutional about it.

NCL is not Celebrity or any other line, NCL does not have pre cruise set dining times. On my last NCL cruise we had over 800 children. I would have no idea how many children cruise Celebrity cruise.

Aqua seats 312

Venetian 468

Total per seating 780

 

Lets say you are talking about using Aqua, now we are at 468 and I will even say 200 kids will eat at the buffet and Blue Lagoon and room service. So where are you seating the 600 kids and parents that want to make the early seating before the show? I will even make it better for you each child with only one parent because some families have 2 or more children so lets say 1200 people need to eat in the main dining room because now we only have one, you could not even do this in two seatings.

 

The above is assuming that the other 1040 people onboard are going to pay to eat or be in the adult only restaurant or the buffet, and my cruise was over 800 kids not 800 and most ate before 9pm.

 

Could they do adult only or 12 and above at 9pm sure that may work but that is not what this poll is asking:)

 

The NCL boards would be filled of unhappy cruisers who could not dine in the main dining room because of an adult main dining room:eek: I would hate to be a family with children staying in an inside cabin, we would have to eat at the buffet or hope to get ressies to pay to eat Yikes What a mess!
