I agree and when I mentioned this earlier on this thread I was told that it would be too confusing that way and what if the Adult's did not feel like Italian on Monday.

So maybe an Adult only International restaurant or a main dining room would solve the whole issue.

Karysa

That would be me.:)

I think you're taking taking my post out of context. I only gave that as a random example since I said someone may not want Italian, if for whatever reason, Monday was the only evening they wanted or felt like an Adults Only evening.

I also said, a restaurant with a wider variety of foods would please more people which could be interpreted as what you said...... International.;)

But with so many choices why would it hurt to have an adults only restaurant? I don't understand..As for after 8pm, sure that is a great idea, problem? When we were on the Spirit a few months ago a family did bring their little one to Le Bistro after 8pm or I think it was just about 8pm. On another night a young couple brought there toddler, in his stroller to the late showing of "Second City" when the little guy decided he would rather cry than sit quietly his parents let him scream..

The first time we ate in Le Bistro (about 12 years ago) we did eat late and our granddaughters who were 10 and 14 at the time had no desire to eat with us. We had a wonderful meal with Daughter, SIL and each other, kids had a blast doing their own thing that night..

Nita

I guess we've just been lucky. My husband and I live in a city, we got out to eat pretty regularly, often at nice places and never anywhere that bans kids, and I really can't remember an instance of being annoyed by anyone's children. I would say what happens more often is that halfway through the meal we'll notice that their happened to be a very well-behaved baby or child at a table around us. We've never really had much of an issue at dinner on a cruise either (or maybe we're just so relaxed and in vacation mode that we don't notice!). We saw a sleeping toddler once at a late reservation at Cagney's but, obviously, he didn't cause any problems.

Perhaps the problem is that some of the people bringing their kids to restaurants (and particularly the nicer ones on cruise ships) don't do that regularly on land so their kids don't know how to behave / the parents don't know what strategies work best while out at a long meal with their kids? Even though we don't have kids yet, I've noticed that others who acclimate their kids to being in "grown-up" environments tend to behave well from and early age and also tend to be some of the most well-spoken, polite, intelligent little people I've seen because they know how to interact with adults and how to behave in different circumstances.

It doesn't really effect me one way or the other if there is a "no kids" restaurant ... other than that once we are cruising with little ones I wouldn't want to feel like I couldn't go to a nice restaurant while our baby was sleeping in a stroller... I see alot of people do that, and it seems extreme to ban it. NCL doesn't provide in-room childcare or childcare to really young children, and I also understand parents who would be a little skeptical of leaving their baby with someone they didn't know on a cruise ship ... Perhaps the solution of having an "adults only" and an open seating dining room of the same restaurant would be a solution.

Bravo to both of you. For the life of me I cannot understand negativity said to people, just for the sake of being negative. All of us choose our way of life...kids, no kids, married, not married, etc. And what is right for one is not right for the other. I cannot IMAGINE anyone telling someone that they have wasted their life because they never had children! I know they do, but it's just unfathomable to me.

Whoever said that we are all neighbors on a cruise ship is right on. Families have every right to cruise with their children and enjoy the experience. And adults have every right to want to have some adult time, including some "kid free" dining time. One thing I think we'll all agree on is that those parents who don't discipline their children and allow them to run wild and annoy anyone in their path are the culprits in most of these discussions. As an owner of a school bus company, I can tell you that I'm VERY familiar with those type parents. The same ones who let their kids run wild on a cruise ship are those who defend little Johnnie to the very end. You ought to be in a parent/bus driver/bus contractor meeting with them. He didn't do it, he never said that, the driver picks on him...etc. etc. etc. no way their little angel did anything wrong! :)

I'm wondering if cruise lines really know how many people would enjoy and utilized some sort of adult only dining? Be it one specific dining room, or alternating nights in several dining rooms. I think that anyone who would like to see this implimented should make sure they write it on their comment cards and their post cruise survey. Afterall, NCL is supposedly the "nickle and dime" cruiseline so one has to wonder if they are missing out on revenue! :D Maybe those who've never stepped foot in a specialty restaurant would pay to frequent them every night if they were assured of no kids.

If you read my posts (I'm not saying you should have to :)), I think you'll find that we agree. I would only ask if you realize that I feel like a second class citizen just as often because I don't have children. Mothers telling me I've wasted my life, that I'll never understand true love, that I don't deserve the same parking spots as they do, etc. etc. The problem is lack of understanding in the hearts of lots of people, far from the majority of people, just enough people to make life frustrating.

off the subject but no one has the right answer on having kids cause there is no right answer. Not having kids is a personal choice and one more people are making all the time. I can't imagine life without my three, my grandkids and my ggranddaughter, but we have one daughter who seems very happy, has a great marriage and she choose not to have kids. I would never tell her that decision was wrong or her life could not be complete.. You are right, it is lack of understanding. Not everyone should have kids..

The most positive thing about having kids, they take care of you when you get older. LOL

that happens to us too and another thing that I swear happens no matter what restaurant we are at is that someone will either 'sweep' or vacuum the floor right next to us.

GROSS.. and I thought I was the only one this bothered. Do they not realize they are shooting all kinds of gross stuff up into the air?

As anyone here who has ever read my posts knows, I am a tireless child advocate. But on this I vote YES. If there was one place people could be child free, even if only for an evening, it may stop the whining about children in general.

There are places children should be, and places they should not be. I did my duty at AppleBee's when they were little, and now take them to more "grown up" venues, but some places have an ambiance that is more adult. Not to say many children would not be able to behave nicely (I'd like to think mine would), but unfortunately it is hard to say "You with the well behaved child can come in" and "You with the screamer can not".

FYI-I am not aware of adult only hot tubs--my kids have been in them on Dawn, Jewel and Spirit. Are you sure? Because I never saw any signs and I am not really a rule breaker so would not have allowed them in if they were truly adult only.

I have to say I did not know this either until I read it on CC and looked for the signs on our last cruise on the Pearl and sure enough there are little signs on the hottubs that if you blink you would miss.

People have thrown out the idea that you could make the Italian adult only on Saturday nights, Cagneys on Sunday, etc. How about having the adult only restaurant where you could order from any of the specailty restaurants. That way there is not a theme that the parents wanting to dine with their children would miss out on since they could go to any of the individual restaurants and the adult restaurant would not really have a theme.

Thanks, Nita. I didn't necessarily choose not to have kids, which makes the comments all the more painful (although I am sure if I was determined and had enough money, I could have found a way. But that's beside the point. :o To your last comment, I remind my niece and nephews occasionally that I am counting on them! :D They don't cringe too badly. lol

I do think that the world would be a better place if some people thought about whether they should have children and/or are really ready for the change in lifestyle. That's just my opinion.

You know last time I checked my eyes worked fine and I did not see the signs on ANY of the three ships I was on. And I know see that this was never intended to be a productive poll, but rather a way for you to vent. How sad.

Oh really? well take what you want from it, this wasnt directed at anyone in particular, i was giving my input from my cruise and what i saw...VENT? are you serious?

btw I have 2 great kids, this was never about bashing children, it was a very simple question

Wouldn't it be great if those parents could be the ones excluded from the restaurants or all put in one room? Then the rest of us, kids, parents, etc. could dine in pleasure and we'd all be happy! As I've said before, whenever I see the behavior we are discussing, I feel for those children. They may seem to have it made, but I don't believe the parents are doing them any favors. If adults don't want to dine with them, their friends probably won't either.

But with all that said, I MUST REPEAT that I see far less of this problem on cruises than at home. I can't remember the last time I was annoyed by a child on a cruise - adult, yes, child no. It is what I think is great about the kids club and cruising in general for families, the kids are generally so entertained and happy, it is not a problem.

CruisnGram,

One thing that I see as being an issue, which I mentioned pages back;), is the actual enforcing of the Adults Only.

There are always going to be those who feel they are the exception. Some of them will be like the parents of the little angels you just posted about, the crew will not want an "incident', give in and the whole idea is starting its way "down the tubes".

Ladder, what ship were you on? I am curious since you say the signs were plenty big. It does vary, just as the no chair hogging signs vary from ship to ship.

I did not read the whole thread yet but I will later.

I voted no.

Last cruise it was only my son and I he is now 13 our favorite restaurant is Le Bistro and breakfast and lunch at Cagneys and of course late night at Blue lagoon and my son loves Sushi.

I have to say that you will not see many kids if any kids in Le Bisto, So why would NCL make it a point to make a restaurant adult only?

NCL has plenty of adult only venues: The casino, Monte Carlo night, adult only shows, adult only hot tubs, Martini clinic, late night Tapas, Freestyle sundeck, adult only murder mystery dinner, adult only spa and indoor pool. I'm sure I missed a few things.

I dont know of any adult only restaurants here in NY I have no idea about other states.

Last week my son and I went to Cafe des artist and Daniel a few weeks ago. I must say he ordered in French and we enjoyed our meals in both places. The chef came over to my son at Cafe des artist to see if he enjoyed his meal and it was excellent. Many kids do not like french food so they do not get many kids there, my son loves it.

All that being said my husband is a restaurant consultant and we understand the importance of a couples quiet night out and I see no problem with going to for example Le Bistro and asking for a quiet table:)

Le Bistro is a wonderful quiet restaurant with amazing art work.

NCL is not for everyone Disney has an adult restaurant on the ships but do not have casinos and lets not forget the price is higher on Disney. Celebrity has an adult only cruise some may enjoy.

of course you have an opinion and I can see your side of it, but remember, policies are set to satisfy as many as possible. There is no perfect answer or solution. There will always be exceptions..unfortunately you can't please all the people, all the time.

I agree 100% Thats why we cruise on NCL.

NCL was not built like other ships with set dining times in a large dining room.

As much as I love seeing families on cruises, I had to vote yes to this one. It is really a joke between Doug and me that if there is a screaming kid in the whole restaurant, the kid will be at the table next to us. No matter if land or sea. It happens to us ALL the time. Much more so than it not happening.

You probably get in the short line at the store expecting it to be the fastest as well Terry? :p Same thing happens to Mike and I when we go on a cruise. We have the screaming kid that no one says anything to next to us.

I personally love the idea of an adults only restaurant. I am the mother of three adult children and they were very well behaved because we never allowed anything less. That said though, here are just times that adults would appreciate being with other adults, either for romance or fun and friendship. I see nothing wrong with it and certainly wouldn't be offended by it.

There would be no need for adults only restaurants or pools or anything else if the 2 following requirement were met:

1. Parents controlled their children and removed them if they misbehaved.

2. Staff removed anyone, adult or child, who behaved inappropriately.

Very simple. Very civilized. Never gonna happen.

Ya know when I started this poll, I really thought it would be an overwhelming YES vote.

I can see that it is not.

I am really having a hard time grasping to those that vote NO because they want their children included. to me voting No is being a little greedy, again 14 restaurants, make 1 of them adult only, if you have children how is this affecting you, you still have 13 choices nightly.

no rotating, no after 830pm, it does not have to be that complicated, just one adult only restaurant, whats the big deaL??

The hot tub signs I read were plenty big enough, they are right in front of them, but yet kids were still in them, 2 shows we went to, ADULT only, but there were all kinds of kids there.newlywed, perfect couple games, kids there...wth? Adults need to step up to the plate and follow the guidelines, just because your on vacation does not mean you just say screw it and let them do whatever they want to make your life easier, I am a dad of 2 and have respect for others and their "space"

ncl also needs to start enforcing the guidelines put in place for the few things that are adults only because from what ive seen the adults are sometimes just not responsible enough or respectful of their fellow cruisers

I posted your original quote, which I am sure many will agree veered from simply giving your input (calling people greedy is no less rude than what I called your venting! And please bear in mind I voted YES-I simply RESPECT the rights of others to feel differently). There were a few posts you made everytime someone did not feel the same way in which you challenged them. I suggest you reread the thread, maybe you did not mean to come across so strong. Having children does not preclude you from thinking they have no place in areas that others would disagree that they do in fact belong. Next time keep it a simple question!

Terry, I know you are more than fair when it comes to kids. Your words mean alot to me and I will certainly look for the signs next time. We are contemplating the Dawn for a Bermuda run in 2010. Two of my children will be over 16 at that point. Do you remember the age limit?

I would like a restaurant that excludes adults who can't handle the presence of children. I think, all things considered, that such adults pose a far greater problem than kids.

So start your own poll.

One of the most impressive aspects of cruise critic is the absence of anyone posting here who has ill-mannered, misbehaved children. Nor are there ANY inconsiderate smokers. And with one tiny exception (20 minutes) there are no chair hogs either. Never seen anybody post that they push to the front of the que to get on a tender either.

The internet is a strange and wonderful place.

Did I ever mention am your biggest fan? You seem to "get it". We (parents with children) are not looking to create problems. Just want some respect and to stop being lumped in with every bad parent. If 5 nights were family friendly, with one adult only (I still wouldn't take my kids to Cagneys or Le Bistro) I cant imagine anyone having a problem with that!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Would love to meet you and your lovely family one day. Perhaps we will....on a cruise! :)

Exactly. No one was more surprised than me that there was any distinction amongst the hot tubs even after spending a lot of time in and near them. I don't know how you could blame a child or parent for not knowing.
