Nasty life vest, naked dancers and water spouts! Carnival Destiny May 28

Recommended Posts

We spray the lifevest down with Lysol. It probably doesn't really help, but it's a mom thing. I spray everything down with Lysol. Heck, if those naked Carnival dancers look germy, I'd spray them too!

Ok. Nap time over. Boy I needed it. I was up early for a dentist appointment. Great way to end a vacation hu?

About the life vest.....

This was my 6th Carnival cruise. Usually the life vest are in pretty good shape so I have never had an issue with them before. Personally I would never blow the whistles. The vest on Destiny however were just plain nasty. Next time I may refuse to wear it until someone can bring me a semi clean vest.

Ok time to start dinner then I will sit down and start writing more.

Okay, this is really starting to be border line abusive behavior, I am going to demand a discount on my next cruise.;)

Ok, well the ones I've seen weren't really nekkid, so I guess you're just pulling our collective legs. I'm pretty sure they wear those dancer tights, don't they? High school drill teams wear them & they look just like skin from a distance.

My cruise by Ron.

Part two.

When we last saw Cruisin' Ron Va he had just barely made it to the Port of Miami and checked on board Carnival Destiny only to find dirty life vest.......

We were supposed to sail at 4 but it was closer to 5. I wont say we sat and sat as I have learned my lesson about that. :D With the stormy weather I am guessing some flights were delayed and we waited for passengers.

There were two other people in our little group that I had met online and decided to hang out with. They are from our local area and were also on our flights. We met up and explored the ship a little.

I must say that even though Destiny is an old girl, I was quite impressed with her upkeep. The ship is very clean and well maintained! Of course there are a few cosmetic blemishes but I have seen such things on newer ships too.

Most of the clubs and lounges are aft. The shops and photo area are in the usual spots. My favorite lounge was the Onyx room! This also serves as the internet cafe'. Very appealing to the eye.

I was surprised that Destiny is toned down as far as decor compared to the newer ships!

It turns out our dinner reservations were originally for the Galaxy dining room and our new "friends" had the Universe. Our TA's were supposed to get this coordinated with Carnival but someone dropped the ball. As it turns out I wish it had stayed that way. :( We found the Maitre' D who is a very pleasant man. His name escapes me at the moment. He was able to find us a very very nice table for four in the Universe lower level all the way aft next to the window. A very nice view of the wake and sunset!

Our dinner time was 8:15. Our waiter was named Roger. AKA James Bond 008. Not 007, 008. uh hmmmm. uh hmmmmm. Anyone who has had this waiter knows what I mean. lol.

Roger did a great job for the two nights I ate in the dining room. His assistant was so so. We had to ask for the beverages we wanted as opposed to being asked. If you didnt ask for tea you got water. If you didnt ask for coffee you didnt get it. MY EXPERIENCE has been that the assistant would come around and ask if you wanted tea or something other than water or coffee with dessert. But thats not a big deal I didnt really mind. It was just an observation.

Dinner went well that evening. I did notice right off the little things like the reduction in the amount of silver ware on the table and the re use of forks and knives. The food, and I know it is subjective, was lacking imagination and just seemed kind of blah. I thought it might get better.

SHOW TIME!

This is where I check my dinner. Sorry.

MY CRUISE BY RON: PART 3

SHOW TIME!

Welcome aboard show.

The CD for this cruise was Stephanie Meads. I seem to recall that she was either on Liberty or Legend last year as AD, I just cant remember which.

She is a standard CD. She is a nice lady. The only time I saw her was at show time or little other activities around the ship. Thats ok. I dont need to know her where abouts at all times lol.

Now her Assistant CD is another story. I am not even going to go into detail other than to say I hope he gets a haircut soon and does something about those side burns.

Moving on.

Welcome aboard show starring The Carnival Destiny Dancers. Lead vocals by Maren Ellefson and Rob Brown.

Rob, bless his little heart, felt the need to shout into the micorphone while he was singing or talking.

They did the standard FUN welcome to Carnival thing.

The show also included the comedy of Leighann Lord. She was quite good. I found her entertaining. This was G rated of course. She had two R rated shows for the next evening that I missed due to being upset. More on that later.

After show time we decided to hit the casino. The only winner that night was Carnival. :( LOL. They call it gambling for a reason. I usually stick with the penny and nickle slots. I have been lucky on past cruises. It turns out this wouldnt hold true on Destiny.

Bed time.

Next stop: Key West!

My friend and I had never been to Key West before. I wish we had found this treasure sooner!

We got up a bit early and had breakfast in the lido. Most people had left the ship already so the Lido wasnt too crowded. Standard buffet breakfast. The scrambled eggs were HORRIBLE! The bacon police was on scene too. LOL.

I was quite surprised that there was an upper level for seating such as that found on Liberty. Not many people sit up there so it was easy to find a table.

Off the ship to enjoy our day!

I brought my gps that I use in the car with me. It also has walking mode. Our main interest here was Hemingway house. It was quite easy to find and easy walking distance from the ship.

This was our first stop and only focus for the moment. We arrived at the house, bought our ticket and took a guided tour. Very educational.

HINT HINT: Some people may know this some may not. There are web cams all over Key West including two at Hemingway house. It can be fun to research these so as to know the location ahead of time. Once you get there stand in front of one and call your friends so they can see you on cam at home! :D

After the tour we cut over to Duval street and headed toward the southern most point. We stopped in various stores and art galleries. VERY NICE. These are not the typical touristy shops with a bunch of t shirts and junk. Yes there are a few of these but for the most part there is a good mix. Plenty of bars too for your drinkers. I am a drinker but didnt stop in any. But did sit down in a very nice coffee shop for a break and to cool off.

We made it to the southern most point and took our mandatory picture lol.

After Hemingway house we ran into our table mate "friends" and hung out a while. After a while my friend and I decided to head back to the ship to rest a little and relax so we left them behind.

We had lunch in the Lido and again the food just looked so darn blah. The desserts are lacking from the past. The main dishes are lacking from the past. See where I am going with this? It didnt get any better.

OH BEFORE I FORGET!

I have gotten used to eating onion rings on the Lido for lunch or late night snack. NO OINION RINGS ON THIS SHIP! I couldnt even find a chicken tender. Whats going on here? Whats next? No fruit punch? Ooooooh wait. :(

Time to get ready for "elegant night." Lobster and Prime rib here I come.....or so I thought.

***THIS IS WHERE I BREAK FOR MY OWN DINNER***

Stay tuned for more later.
