Cruise Review - Pearls of Tahiti - by Icemaiden2310

Hi everyone,

Jen (Icemaiden2310) has sent me the first part of her cruise review. It sounds like they are enjoying themselves, lucky things.

.....................................................................................

Thursday 5th June 2009

Boarding was a extremely quick and easy. As there were no disembarking passengers the process was much smoother, because of this and priority bording we were on board in not time.Thermal imaging is the last thing you face before you get on the ship, it is a very small camera mounted on a tripod and if you do not have normal tempreture you are sent to the ships Doctor. Children from Victoria are quarantined for the first 3 days and arnd not allowed to associate with other children or passengers.Pity they arent all from victoria…

Found our Mini suite easily and was greeted by Sharma which is pronounced Essharma but we call him Osama..

First sea day is really a lost at sea day as I spent it getting over the pre cruise lag that you get trying to get everything organized the weeks before your departure.Eating , sleeping, reading, eating sleeping reading…….

Missed the first production show of “Do you wanna Dance” as I had see it before and decided to have an early Night. Demo was in the dome doing Sitdown comedy. He was very funny as usual but u couldn’t sit down as there were not enough seats..

Second sea day and our cruise critic meeting was planned for the Bengal bar at 2pm. I think there were about 45? Attended and some that were otherwise occupied …The cleaning crew don’t like us at all as there are feathers everywhere ..

Kaz gave a very nice welcome speech with everyone then introducing themselves.. Next came the photo! This was taken on the stairs of the atrium with all suitable wearing our Boas! One phot taken and two late arrivals burst onto the stairs saying” Oh we have been looking for you sorry we are late can we get in the photo! Sure Two boas were donated to the late arrivals to make them fully qualified members of our group ,

Two more photos followed with the photographer very happy with her handiwork. Saying our goodbys and see u laters the two latecomers say to me that they thought we were meeting in the dome or somewhere… No I say never were we planned for the dome…. OH dear says mrs Gate crasher “This is not our Group, we are with the writers or whatever group they were looking for!”Well give me back the damn boa and go find ur own party ( This was under my breath but secretly would have liked to put it over the captains loud speaker” For heavven sake we had to reorganise the whole group just to fit Mr & Mrs Gate Crasher in! Deb also received quite a list of complaints form on unhappy cruiser, he was promptly told to take it to someone who cares.. Good luck!

Next came the cabin crawl. We started on Plaza deck and have a competition as to how many people we could fit in one cabin. Not sure of the final count about 28 I think but deb has photos.Once we were all squasshed in someone from the back yells out “Ok now every one take off your clothes!.. Oh no someone else who had joined the wrong group ! Ha Ha he was only kidding but got a great laugh as well as clearing the room extremely very quickly. We covered all cabins up to Mini suite, unfortunately we couldn’t look in the suite cause none of us have that much money to waste..

Tonights show was William Maffi…. Strange man… A gay Tongan female impersonator? If he didn’t look so much like my local vet it may have been a little more entertaining.Son excused himself after the second badly sung Frank Sinatra son saying he was going to the bathroom… Ha Ha yes sure needless to say he didn’t come back…

There are many older people onboard some of them quite rude and disruptive.I already had to chastise one in the toast line. Actually I told her she was a miserable cow and it was after all only toast. She now makes an effort to duck behind a post or plant if she sees me (walker permitting) There is a wonderful story of two lovely old things hitting each other with walking sticks and when the CD tried to step in was hit in the shin! The children from victoria are looking better company each day….

They have The Teeth whitening on here again as usual and our Kaz Was picked as a model! Hey this really works Kaz’s teeth looked sparkling! Seeing there are so many oldies on this one they are running a Special for the next formal night! You can drop off you teeth and have the whitened and they will deliver them to you cabin TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE “ Ships rumour is that they ran out of Sterodent in the first 10 minutes. I think only the ACDC concert beat that by selling out in 9 minutes

NOUMEA

Yee haa Noumea NOT….. Still the same old…grotty town with garbage strewn through out the streets. Only one vendor in the terminal with a mask on. OMG it was the biggest Mask I have ever seen. It went from her hairline to her neck and I have no idea how she saw anything? Mind you she did have an assistant who she constantly abused. Typical happy noumea people…Being Sunday Noumea was closed as usual.

On consultation with Kaz we decided that the only way to escape the purple rinse set was to do a tour that was a little more Youth oriented.. The only thing on the tour lis was the TREE TO TREE ADVENTRUE. And adventure it was Climbing, swinging , crawling, all kinds of wires u have to walk on, over thru, up to 60ft off the ground! Yikes it’s a long way up. You are given a safty harness with pullys and clip things that u have to clip onto the wires with the red tape. This is so u wont fall off and kill yourself. Your are also given a helmut and gloves that are made for big people. The safty ahrness really works! I proved that swinging from the sixty foot tree climb when I couldn’t hold onto the rope. And your life really does flash before you I think I only free fell a couple of meters before the safty like kicked in and took the kinks out of my spine and made me one inch taller. Oh and I sprained my finger which is still swelling as I type.

On Return Son wanted a look around so we took the bus to Lemon bay and was starving and wanted to eat something in Noumea! Found nice little cafe and had a bill burger!yes bill must be famous cause he had all the burgers named after him. We both had a bill burger and coke and a small plate of French fries..Then we found out why it is call a Bill burger.. Cause the damn bill was 3800cpf that translates to about Fifty Bucks , $50, 5000cents, A taxi from port to laurieton, 10 pies, 2 pair of shoes from woolies…..

Ivor Richards was in the show lounge tonight. Have seen Ivor before on the Dawn maiden voyage and must say that he has toned down his comedy routine for this cruise. He was very funny anyway. I was too scared to go to the perfect match on tonight with the age on here it could be a very short relationship for whoever won….

Hit the casino won a bit on the pokies.Son decided to hti the dome as all the purples would be asleep and all the young ones would be there! And they were! He had finally found Shangri-la! People under 40!He very happily announced to me at 4 am when he came back turning all the lights on banging all the cupboards and turning the TV on! I was happy for him and told him so. I also told him that if he did that again he wasn’t too old at 26 for his mother to smack him round the head and body with my shoe if he did it again.

I'll post more when I next hear from Icy.

Hi there,

Really enjoyed your review and funny. Sounds like your are having a ball just shows that you can have a great time even if there are people who are going to try and spoil it for others. Can't wait for the next installment.

Great review, Jen. Say hello to Deb' & Vern please. And to Peter and Evon if you catch up with them. Pretty sure they got on in Noumea.

Frank

Hi Frank, I am also onboard...Deb is fine also her dad Phillip, but Vern was confined to his mini suite for 2 days with a cold...not swine flu.

Evon and Peter Anderson got on in Noumea.

I had a laugh reading Icy's report...maybe I lead a sheltered life or something because I missed all the drama in the Buffet....I only eat in the dining room...that is something else also..first few days it was like a cattle call. lines way back past the Bengal bar to get in, it's getting a bit better now.

this cruise so far has been like a millpond. calm seas.

we are heading to Vava'u at present.

kind regards to everyone, Lorraine:):)

Icemaiden will be old one day and I hope she never ends up with a walker. Her comments about the elderly on board are appalling and making fun of the elderly using walking sticks in a so called fight is equally appalling.

I have noticed on these boards in the past the elderly being singled out as if they have no right to be cruising.

lucky my parents - 79 and 86 - have great sense of humour, they would have found the post hilarious.

Jen will be old one day but I'll bet she'll not be like the sad, angry old people she's had the misfortune to encounter on PD.

sadly on the three cruises we've been on so far, the rudest and most demanding passengers have been elderly.

it's not only cruise ships. how many times have I just about been knocked over by an older person in a queue in a supermarket. time may be getting shorter, but that is no excuse for being rude

If you knew Jen then you would know she has a terrific sense of humour and her review is meant to be interesting and fun for us to read. I've been on one cruise where Icy has been amazingly tolerant and polite to the older generation in her own experiences so please read it as it is meant to be, an interesting fun review.:D

Loved the review. Keep it coming.

So what is it about some of the older passengers being so rude:confused:. It was exactly the same on our cruise (and Rugbypopsie would agreed with me ). We are not saying that everyone is rude and pushy, just a few who seem to have left their manners at home and don't seem to worry about upsetting others.:(
