Pamangela - Could you share the site for the taping? My sister and I are going on the NCL Star November 7th, but flying in the morning of the 6th (Friday). If they would have something available for us to see it would be great.

Thanks to all of you for educating me on LA and what to do, where to stay, where to eat! I've enjoyed reading this thread and making plans.

Denise

Comedy show could be different, but I went to a taping of the Price is Right in Burbank and it was a big pain, procedure lasted all day. You had to report early, then were asked if we wanted to take part of a screening of a new show (which we did), then had time (went to the farmers market next door). Then the taping of the show, was interesting but took the whole day. Was not too bad for us because we were there for 2 weeks. But comedy shows could be totally different.

Did they move TPIR from CBS TV City? I remember they used to film that show there in the 70s-90s. Never went to that one, but we used to go to many game show tapings -- when there were many shows -- as UCLA students. Free entertainment.

Most tapings do have an arrival time that's at least an hour or so before the scheduled taping time. You'll go through a security line (things like cameras, phones, etc. will have to be left at the desk, so make sure your stuff is properly marked with your name), then you'll be seated. Then will be all the production setups, etc., while some standup comedian will do his or her routine to get everyone in the mood to applaud, laugh, etc. Tapings often will take longer as often there are production glitches. For game shows, they will tape more than one show.

I have only been to one sitcom taping. Expect more stopping to fix glitches, missed lines, etc. Sometimes, the writers will play with lines even at the taping. These are usually at night, often on Fridays.

Did they move TPIR from CBS TV City?

I think loveJake was just confused about where they were when they wrote "Burbank"...

By the fact that they killed time by going over to "Farmer's Market", that indicates it clearly was CBS Television City...

For those not from the area, Burbank is a town "over the hill" from and Northeast of Hollywood--you go north of Hollywood on the 101 through the Cahuenga Pass, pass Universal City and cut back on the 134 and you're in Burbank...

CBS is in the other Direction--Southwest of Hollywood in the "Fairfax District"...Just North of CBS is the old Jewish neighborhood with Canter's Deli (an LA institution and favorite of celebs)...immediately south of CBS is the old original LA Farmer's Market and the new "Grove" shopping center that was recently developed around it...

http://www.audiencesunlimited.com and/or http://www.tvtickets.com

either one of these should get you to the free tickets site.

And yes, it is a Friday night.. and I think it seems like a fun thing to do. It does state that it could be 2 to 4 hours.

Well. we're off in the morning to beautiful Californ-eye-A and the Sportsmen's Lodge... which I will report back on my opinion when we return from our cruise!

See you all soon!! ;o)

and the Knickerbocker Hotel where Fred lived?

I hope you see this or check this from the hotel, as I didnt' see this question before!

The Knickerbocker Hotel is still there, and it's at 1714 Ivar Avenue, not too far from The Sportsmen's Lodge! It's one block west of Hollywood and Vine.

It's an interesting Hollywood stop, as Marylin Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had tons of their dates their at the hotel bar.

It's also the hotel featured in The Graduate.

Hopefully you'll check this out while you are there!

Okay, I just left a rambling message at the front desk for you - so hopefully they'll be able to locate you and send it to your room! If not, then someone else is getting info about the Knickerbocker Hotel!

What would you suggest for two days post cruise? We are flying out of LAX on Monday morning? We would prefer not to drive anywhere in CA! I don't have hotel reservations post cruise yet. Maybe something near Santa Monica?

What is your budget range?

What type of activities are you looking for?

After reading all of these posts and trying to figure out what we want to do in our day and a half post cruise, I see that most tours are not on the weekends. I thought a great overview of the area, seeing the highlights on a tour might be just what we want. Do you have a suggestion for a tour offered on Saturday afternoon or Sunday? That would be our first choice, I believe.

Second choice would probably be Disneyland. I know they will be open on weekends!

Really, this is a last minute trip. I usually do a lot of research before a trip, but this one is coming up too fast for that! So, I appreciate all your help.

Pre-cruise we will be in Long Beach at the Westin. (Priceline - $65)

Hi Curt!!

Wow! Thank you for trying to get this to me! As it turns out Sportsmen's didn't have internet until Friday, so I never had an opportunity to sign online.... we also did not get a message from the desk from you. However... it might be possible it was left on our phone, but we did switch rooms from the 4th floor pool view to the Garden walk-out.

I promised reviews and will do in pieces.... along with pics...when I upload them.

SPORTMENS LODGE was exactly as you specified... nostagic, full of charm and very clean! They were filming NCIS-LA in the back lot Weds & Friday eves. which did nto affect our parking.

We had a 4th floor offside pool view, but since one of the elevator was out of order (and would remain out of order) we requested a ground floor walk out.

We went across the street and got REAL alcohol in RALPH's Supermarket! (still can't beleive we can buy alcohol with my milk!-lol) and saw Adrianne Barbeau and got a pic with her!!!

At night, we went and snacked at CARNEY's Railroad

Went to PINZ Bowling alley and was in awe with all the stars signed pins and Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall's private bowling balls and lockers!!

And then ate at Jerry's Famous Deli!

....more to come tomorrow... hint: we did ALL the STARLINE tours where we DID see the KNICKERBOCKER HOTEL, and the HOLLYWOOD HOTEL, and the Riot Hyatt, stars homes including MICHAEL Jckson's last home,,,, simon Cowelss, Ringo StaRS, lUCILE bALL, jENIFER aNISOTNS, hUGH hEFFNER'S pLAYBOY MANSION!! SOOO MUCH MORE!! The Rainlow Room, the Vipor.... also went ro Warner Brothers & saw Rita Rocks taping at CBS studio. Even had a tour guide who knew Steve Bruin!!!

Wait! We also did your driving tour down to MALIBU!!!!!

AND TO sANTA mONICA PIER!!!!

wE DID IT ALL BABY!

I LOVE LA!!!!!

Now for my start of one review for my "pay-it-forward review"...

The Enterprise car rental was very good... and recommended!

Renting a car is also a GREAT recommendation as opposed to NOT renting a car as we did so much more with one.

After your flight you go outside baggage and wait under the purple sign for the Enterprise Bus which takes you to their office which is about 10 minites or so away. There was a good amount of wait, about 20 minutes, but the line went quickly. We had a few choices to pick from so we got the Escort. Very nice.

We were able to drop off the car in the back parking lot of the hotel (my mind is blank-the Crown I believe-) . We got picked up by a little Enterprise bus, after waiting maybe 10-15 minutes b y the curbside which took us directly to the pier.

We did NOT get charged for the different drop off from pick up at LAX/ drop off San Pedro. We DID make sure to get it in writing via email.

We also did NOT get charged for the bus ride to pier.

Car rental- 3 days- $72. A GREAT deal! Go Enterprise!

Looking forward to hearing more of your review, especially about your Starline tour!

DEFINITELY recommend.

We did the Movie Star full 5 1/2 hour tour PLUS the Star's Homes Tour that was about 2 hours + extra time to be dropped back to our hotel.

YES.. THIS ONE PICKED US UP FROM OUR HOTEL- Sportsmen's Lodge at 8:20 AM

And you see the Hollywood sign in quite a few areas, too!!

• HOLLYWOOD - Where movies are made and the Stars live, also known as the entertainment capital of the world.

MarilynMonroePrints.jpgWalkOfFame2.jpg

• WALK OF FAME - Where the stars are immortalized in cement.

• HOLLYWOOD BOWL - amazing... huge

• GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE - Footprints and hand prints of the most famous movie stars in the world are here.

• KODAK THEATRE - New home of the Academy Awards, also nicknamed the "Crown Jewel of Hollywood".

ChineseTheatre2.jpg

• HOLLYWOOD & HIGHLAND - one of the most popular places to visit.

• SUNSET STRIP - Famous shops, restaurants and bars where celebrities meet, eat and play.

• RODEO DRIVE - Where you see Gucci, Prada, Versace, Chanel, Bijan, Louis Vuitton, should I say more?*

FarmersMarket.jpg

• FARMER'S MARKET & THE GROVE - Eat at the oldest Farmers Market in LA (circa 1937) Lunch stop 45 min.

LaBreaTarPits.jpg

• LA BREA TAR PITS - Discover the past at the Pits.

• MIRACLE MILE - The perfect place for culture, history and nightlife.

• OLVERA STREET - The oldest house...

grandtour.jpg

• CHINA TOWN - A mix of chinese culture.

While you are going to these locations, all the famous sites are pointed out! We had a DOUBLE DECKER bus and had front row 2nd level seats which ROCKED!!

Star's Homes...included

Just to name a few... I Love Lucy!! Dr. Phil's home, Simon Cowl, Ringo Star, Jennifer Aniston, The Osbourne's, Playboy Mansion, the Hill's Mansion, Michael Jackson's final home and gates...

Our driver BRIAN, was just wonderful! Request BRIAN for this part of your tour!!

Glad you had such a great trip. I was hoping you would tell me a little bit more about the Sportsman. We are considering it for our up coming pre cruise trip as well. Would you stay there again and what did you end of paying per night? Did you have to pay for parking? Was breakfast offered at the hotel. Thanks for any information you will share.

Hey there!

I'm highly awaiting your pictures and review from the entire trip!

So far it seems that it couldn't have been better...

NCIS filming in the lot, Adrienne Barbeau across the street...

The Red Line Tour!

I hope to see pics and reviews of all of it!:D

PS I hope that you enjoyed some of the "adult beverages" that you were able to purchase across the street at Ralph's - while you were sitting on your Sportsmen's Lodge Balcony!

If you did that, then you can easily see why that hotel was a major hangout for Elvis and The Rat Pack!

Looking forward to more pics and info.

Pamangela - Where did you book your hotel stay at the Sportsmens Lodge? (You mentioned earlier that you got a better price on it than the Best Western Sunset Blvd was offering.)

Also, did you book your Redline Hollywood Tour online at their website?

Also looking forward to your pictures and reviews.

Yes I did enjoy! Sure will post more pics

... but one quick question, Curt.

What's up with the Shaun Cassidy avator?

(not that I have any problem looking at that adorable face!):D
