There is a Hurricane a coming!

I am quite aware of the status of the storms, I was interested in peoples experiences. I am not overly concerned. I do think there are many people who would like to know what could happen in the event of a storm. So for everyone else, please keep the stories coming.

However, the current tropical depression is expected to follow a course that puts it in the area of the Bahamas and the storm right behind it, yet to be named, is projected to be right on it's heels and stronger.

So again, for those who have had "storm" experiences, keep telling us!

I've had a lot of different experience with cruising during Hurricane Season. Last year was the worst when we sailed on Enchantment during Hurricane Ike we literally ran parallel to Ike for 2 or 3 days- one day and night were a complete wash out. We were able to move into cabin 7166 a JS corner aft which was a great balcony!

In other cruises that have been effected though we just roll with it- on one cruise that was cut short by a day we received $250 OBC and 50% a future sailing (the ship in front of us was cut short 2 days and they received $500 OBC) We had a hard time spending the $250 but the casino and spa received most of it:) I don't know if they still offer these type of things anymore though.

On another cruise there was a hurricane ahead of us and one behind us..we had perfect seas and weather. The best experience from that cruise was at StingRay City in the Caymans we were the only tour out there (which I didn't appreciate until we went again on another cruise and were one of 20 tours) other ships hadn't been able to stop in the Caymans for the week before because of the hurricane in front of us and the stingrays were eager to be fed!

I'll continue to take my chances during hurricane season I always seem to get great rates and the IF a hurricane is even mentioned so many people cancel it's like having a the ship to yourself. The only reason I would cancel is if we were going to get a direct.

Sailing again on 9/12...and have my fingers crossed:D

My first cruise on the 23rd sailing Freedom of the Seas. I just had a feeling something like this was going to happen. My boss would not let me take the 2nd week of August off so I had to settle for the last and this is what I get. No matter what I am going to get on that ship and have a great time. I will take some Bonine with me even though I don't really get sea-sick but I have only been on small boats not large ships.

I do need to prepare the house since we live near the coast. Our house/pet sitters will be well stocked in case of a power outage - we were without power for 28 days total in 2004 - it really sucked. Just went to Wally world and got water, fresh batteries and nuts (they go with the beer). Wal Mart was already running low on water so i'm glad I got there when I did.

Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst - Still hoping to meet everyone at the meet and mingle onboard the Freedom.

All other things being equal, I do not believe that storms A.B., or C., will substantially impact Florida. However, we did fill up the gas cans just in case.

I hope you are right about this.

I cannot imagine living in an area that can be directly impacted by hurricane season  My wish is for hurricanes to stay out at sea and leave everyone alone!!!!

Ana's currently not charted to become stronger than a Tropical Storm. TS's don't pack enough punch to do any damage once they make landfall, but cruise line's won't have there ships anywhere near them either way.

When Ike came into Galveston it destroyed the port (and everyone's cars). I believe they dropped them off in Tampa after the hurricane.

They didn't drop off the passengers in Tampa. Carnival Conquest went to New Orleans where most people got off. A few opted to stay on the ship as it went to Bayport. Carnival Ecstasy went to Bayport after the Ike cruise. Both Ships departed Bayport until November, when they could return to Galveston.

The residents of Houston (T S ALLISON 2001) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Allison

and Florida (T S FAY 2008) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Fay_%282008%29

Might disagree with you.

I remember seeing a story on the Weather Channel about Allison! A lot of people underestimate flooding! And it looks like Ana will go into the Gulf of Mexico!

Here is the latest update on Bill's track...

Not looking good! It looks like Bill is heading for the East coast as a major hurricane!

Hey Dylan :) This is my first time tracking hurricanes - looks like you do it all the time! I suspect that Bill, based on what I can see now (although we know it can change) is headed towards the eastern seaboard. I think you see the same thing?

That depends on where you going!:D We cruise from Cape Liberty to Bermuda. Doesn't look to good that way! I'm trying to guess which way the ship will sail.

I wish all of us with cruises in the next week (and beyond) happy and hurricane free sailing!!!!!

Claudette came through the Keys yesterday (before strengthening to a TS). We are still drying out from it. It poured all day.

It was a huge area of rain, yesterday!

Thats good news for those who have cruises coming up.

Not for cruises departing from the Northeast US!

I dosn't look like Liberty of the Seas, (or any Northeast ship) will be able to go to the Caribbean or Bermuda a few days from now!

Just be sure to bring a sweater and jacket... JUST in case... I seem to recall a few years ago they ended up heading North and nobody knew until they got to the ship... there were some very cold and unhappy people....

It is much too early to reach such a conclusion just by looking at a "projected" path which doesn't even go beyond next Friday and leaves plenty of opportunity for the storm to go in any number of directions in the interim. Anyone who has followed hurricanes over the past few years should know how difficult it is to predict their paths even a day or two in advance, much less nearly a week away. Keep a close eye on the track but don't panic or conclude that the approaching storm will necessarily effect the cruise ships sailing out of Northeast ports. :)

Northeast Canada may not be the hot and humid Caribbean but neither is it the frozen tundra in August, especially if a tropical storm is moving towards it bringing hot and humid weather. Check out today's temperatures in Halifax, NS and St. John, NB and you might be surpised to find that a sweater and jacket might be superfluous. Of more concern might be where the ships can go should the tropical storm's path take it to the Maritimes following the same path as the cruise ship.

We were chased by a hurricane last Sept 4th on the Sovereign and wound up in Key West overnight after we were in Nassau. Had a great time. The trip back to Port Canaveral was just a bit rough but we made it!

I think the only time you need worry is if the hurricane is hitting your port of departure..

We were on that same cruise, it was a great cruise, I remember calling home from Key West, they didn't believe we weren't in the middle of a hurricane!!! The Captain does a great job of avoiding bad weather! Don't worry!

Oops! I meant Explorer of the Seas! My brain must be messed up today!

That's why the cone gets wider by each day, because they don't know exactly where it will go. BUT, we still have a fairly good idea of where Bill is going. Bill might make landfall in the U.S., Bill might scrape Bermuda, or somewhere along those lines. It's a little early to tell, but we have an idea where it's going.

Also, by looking at the path, it looks like Explorer could be affected whether or not she goes to Bermuda or the Caribbean this upcoming week. (I'm not sure which route she will be on this upcoming week.)

Bill might also take a sharp turn and pass far to the east of Bermuda and not affect any cruises on the East Coast. It is much to early to tell and definitely too early to worry about something over which none of us have any control and which is perhaps a week away from having any impact on any of us. Rest assured that RCI officials in Miami are looking much more closely at the path of the storms and will make whatever adjustments are necessary to the Explorer's or any of their other ship's itineraries.

I know that! That's what I meant when I posted Explorer might be affected! But, it's never too early to track storms, and try to figure out where the're going.

This is so true. I grew up in New Orleans and we always watched in amazement as these storms took the path not forecasted! Sometimes where they make landfall depends on where the wobble is in the rotation. Just yesterday Bill was going into the Gulf and today it is the East Coast.

No matter where Bill or any other storm goes, I will be on the Explorer on Thursday as a well informed passenger with a sweater in my bag. (Canada is forecasted to be in the low 60's at night.;))

It appears as of now that we will not be going to Bermuda, instead they will have an univited guest named "BILL". I wonder if the Explorer will be able to sneak down the coast & still go to the Caribbean? or will we go North?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a crystal ball right now? :)
