I'm not a germophobe, but I'm close. I hate buffets, so that part of cruising is challenging for me. I use napkins to handle the serving spoons and do a lot of hand washing and praying.

I also loathe shopping cart handles. Our stores have wipe containers next to the carts, and I will generally wipe down not only the handle, but a good portion of the inside of the cart as well. I never put my children in a cart unless they are well past the stage where they want to put their mouths on everything. The thought of them licking a shopping cart handle just about sends me over the edge...

OK, so maybe I do need help.

On our cruise last week I saw a little boy claw through the american cheese with his fingers. His parents said nothing. In my many trips to the mens room [i drink beer] I saw men and boys not wash their hands. Come on people take what you touch and wash your hands.

Amen to that.

PLUS, Carnival has put sanitizers around the ship especially around the lido deck food areas. PLEASE PEOPLE USE THEM.

On my last cruise, ppl would come from the pool, and go right to the food never stopping in the bathroom to wash their hands nor did they use the sanatizer.

I can not afford to get sick on a cruise. I use sanatizer everytime I touch something on a ship including the casino slot machines. even sometimes take a napkin and put sanatizer on it and clean the machine before I use it.

Important rules for everyone not only cruisers

1. when coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth with your arm or sleeve or hanky. then sanatize your hands regardless.

2. wash your hands after going to the bathroom, and if you tinkle on the seat, clean it up don't leave it for the next user. then when you are done, sanatize your hands

3. sanatize your hands before going through the buffett lines or any food area on the ship.

4. sanatize your hands whenever you do anything that you feel is not good. IE... changing a baby's diaper.

the key is to carry a bottle of sanatizer with you at all times, and use it faithfully.

SANITIZE, SANITIZE, WASH, WASH, SANITIZE, SANITIZE.

No, you do not need help. Your actions not only protect you and give you piece of mind, they also help stop the spread of germs/disease for others.

Yes, people please wash hands after touching your private parts:rolleyes:

I always have a candy dish on my desk at my office and I used to always have jelly beans. People love jelly beans. Anyway, one day someone told me after he saw someone grab a jelly bean that he would never eat my candy again cuz he knows this person doesn't wash his hands after going to the bathroom. Talk about gross me out!

Since then I only carry wrapped candy like Tootsie rolls. It is everywhere and isn't just limited to guys, cruise ships or certain class of people. Trust me, they are everywhere!!!!

Just off a cruise today. The first night a guy at dinner said his food was seasoned with too many spices then he began to sneeze and sneeze and sneeze and sneeze without ever covering his nose or mouth. I asked him to please use a napkin which he finally did on sneeze 12. This went on for about 6 minutes until he finally excused himself.

I changed tables.

eeewwwww.......

I would have changed dining rooms!!

Thanks to all that see my point of view.

the reason I posted this is if every man women and child took a minute to wash their hands and not touch food with their hands maybe the swine flu and Nuro virus would be contained. If a few people that read this are guilty and wash up Its good for all of us. please tell the little one's wash your hands.

Actually the thread has really turned out to be an eye opener.

I can't say I've ever gone into a bathroom to witness guys do anything, let alone shake, straddle or shout.

So true, but you sort of notice when they don't do something -- like wash their hands. I've seen too many guys just walk out of a stall, or from the urinal, and head out the door. Okay, that's on them. It's not a good feeling, however, when you notice them ahead of you in the buffet line. Time to change stations. I'd rather have servers ladle out the food in a buffet line anyway. That said, I've never lost weight on a cruise.

As others have said, it's not just cruise lines. I used to work in a call center and we used to potluck all the time. I was pulled aside early on and told which members had unclean habits. Probably missed out on some good food, but better safe than sorry.

Then again, I've had some awfully good meals in hole-in-the-wall restaurants where you just know it's not the most sanitary of environments. I'm not going to worry myself sick over the issue, else I never would eat. Hey, who knows what goes on back in the kitchen anyway. ;) That's probably what they said about Typhoid Mary.

Also apart from just washing hands is taking Vitamin C and D. Helps a lot in building up the against colds and viruses. We take Vitamin powders that we take with water.. We will be bringing those on our cruise and taking them every day.
