Ft. Lauderdale Q&A/FAQ

Hi Everyone. I need some advice. We booked this hotel because we are a group of 6 and were flying in the night before our cruise (Dec. 28) and this hotel offered a shuttle from the airport and to the port!! A one night stay didn't require us to have a car, etc. Now our airline changed our flights ( I hate Charter Airlines!!) and we are flying in on the 26th. What restaurants/shopping is there in the area? Do we need to rent a car or are cabs readily available. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Kmart is across the street. You could stop at Publix at 3102 Griffin Rd, Fort Lauderdale without going too much out of your way.

Thanks so much. I also found out Hyatt/Summerfield has a free shuttle that will take you to area restaurants etc.

I did a girls only cruise in April and had a late flight. I found "bagtogo" on this site and used them. You just find their truck as you exit the cruise ship and they will check your luggage for $6 per bag. They take it to the airport and hold it for you. Takes an extra ten minutes at the airport. Just stop by their room near the baggage claim area. Get your bags and off to check in you go.

We then did the water taxi for the afternoon, getting off and on to do lunch and a few other stops.

Great information, thanks for sharing!!!

The only thing there is Winn-Dixie, Big Lots, take-out and fast food restaurants, a sports bar/grill, and a German restaurant. Dec 28 probably won't be pool weather, so you will want to get out. It's not hard to call a cab, but I would rent a car.

That's what I was thinking, just trying to figure out the logistics of renting a car (maybe at the airport) and then returning it somewhere near the cruise port the morning of our departure, so as not to waste time going back and forth. With 6 people and all our luggage, it may turn out to be a big hassle. Maybe cabbing it might be easier.

Haven't heard anything about a new one in FLL.

There has been a Lulu's Bait Shack in Fort Lauderdale at Beach Place for about 10 yrs. Tommycruiser was saying that the web page looks like it's under construction. Where is Gulf Shores?????

Grille 66 and Pelican's Landing at the Pier 66 hotel are very good and are frequented by locals.

The Lulu's in Gulf Shores, Alabama IS Jimmy B's sister's place. I don't think she has a place in FLL.

My cruise is soon, less than a month, YEAH! We are staying 1 day pre cruise and will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard Ft Lauderdale. Hopefully we can check in early because our plan arrives at 9:00am. Any ideas at what we can do all day and where to eat?? We don't want to rent a car so hoping there's lots to do within walking distance. Any ideas?

Thank you!!

Hey Larry!!!LOL I had a place bookmarked on the intercoastal and lost it when my mother board fried last week. Is that Marriott near The Embassy Suites? If so there is a neat place on the intercoastal. Someone may be able to help with the name. It's on the road where Winn Dixie is so if you are going straight out the front of Embassy the road is almost in front of you. I'll see if I can't figure it out and let you know. I found it, here's the web site: http://southportrawbar.com/ I know it says raw bar but they have a large variety. Kind of a atmosphere like Poo's or Filets where we are. It was really good and great prices. Tis is on Cordova St. Just off SE 17th.

Is the Cheesecake factory on the water taxi route?
Yes, on Las Olas. Just ask the pilot to let you off near Mangos. Don't know when you will be there but we were there when all those beautiful homes on the inland waterway were decorated for Christmas. Just stunning. We arrive on 9th Jan next year and are so sorry we will miss them this time round.

I will be flying into Ft Lauderdale late January and staying at Cambria Suites of Stirling Rd for 1 night pre cruise. I should arrive at the hotel around 5 p.m on Saturday night. I am guessing it will go dark at about 6 p.m. My question is , How safe is it to walk to the Kmart at Oakland Plaza at this time or after it has gone dark?
