Cruising west vs east from us to australia

Hi!

We are starting to look at cruises that go from Australia to the US or US to Australia, including New Zealand and tHe South Pacific islands.

We haven't cruised across this many time zones and are wondering what the differences are or if there are advantages of doing one directIon vs the other?

Appreciate your insights.

Thanks..:)

Most people would find it far preferable to cruise westbound and be gaining an hour (or half hour) every few days.

That is one reason why you will see Princess world cruises go west.

We have cruised that route eastbound but only for the specific purpose of getting to Vancouver (Alaska).

I wouldn't choose it if I had a choice.

Except that when you cross the international date line (going west) you loose 24 hours in one fell swoop :)

As mentioned, good reasoning, until you reach the International Date Line.

Not just Princess, almost all cruise lines' World Cruises go west bound.

True; that way I can say to "she who must be obeyed" I'll do that job on Tuesday (tee hee).

I prefer to fly to far-away and sail home. Somehow, after even the most relaxing vacation, I just want to stop travelling for awhile. YMMV.

Yes, a good point.

Many, myself included, would prefer to get the long haul flight over first.

Me too. Plus you can bring all your purchases home, without worrying about the weight, on a ship.
