  1. The stories I could tell from the other end of the spectrum would take a full cruise and a case of wine😁
  2. Our local courts will remove you permanently upon request at 70. They will also permanently send you an absentee ballot for voting. But of course, these rules are governed at the local and state level. There are other honorable ways to escape jury duty and in this day and age when participation is very low I have found the courts more than willing to work with you to find an acceptable time period. this sure sounds conclusive to me Most district courts offer permanent excuses from service, on individual request, to designated groups of persons or occupational class on grounds that service by such class or group would entail undue hardship or extreme inconvenience to the members thereof. Such groups may include persons over age 70; in response to another poster and the concept of a jury of your peers, I often smirk at criminal courts and say I am definitely not a peer member most of the accused
  3. Yes they do still sell the 4 for 3, last cruise it was about $185 for the Marlboros. DH has never bought by the pack but I understand you can buy single packs at the bars.
  4. I looked this up this week. DH is approaching 70 and his travel deferment was set to after his 70th. His summons was voided. Here some of the exemptions are 70, sole caretaker with lots of caveats, mental illness. Federal courts are also 70 https://www.uscourts.gov/services-forms/jury-service/juror-qualifications-exemptions-and-excuses
  5. I have recently been on the Volendam, the Oosterdam, Noordam, and Zuiderdam and none had smoking in the casino the nights i was there. Last year I was on the Zaandam and there was smoking at least the few nights I was there . I don’t know if this is by Captain’s choice or company policy
  6. You will find some beverage menus here https://rogerjett-photography.com/specialty-2/hal-regular-and-specialty-restaurants/hal-beverage-menus/ If your beverage is more than $11 you only pay the difference plus gratuity on the difference. I do believe you can also upgrade your package on the ship
  7. There have been quite a few stage acts featuring country music. There is a small but growing following on the ships. Maybe you should make that suggestion to HAL.
  8. Or that they have been receding in some places for centuries and other places not at all if any
  9. Once and only once have I ever experienced delays going ashore with any HAL ship and that was on a tiny, remote island in the South Pacific with a single jetty and rough weather. Other than that there have been times where sudden weather caused a cessation of tender operations for the safety of all. I have been to Croatia and I don’t think a single cruise ship is a problem. If the people there think it is they are welcome to create laws to control the flow.
  10. So, all good questions. I read the guarantee and it covers none of those questions. It just says “visit” and “glacier”. It doesn’t give any more details, by ship, by car? Who knows? How close? It is simply marketing with an absolutely no details. Maybe this discussion will prompt them to add some. details.
  11. They are pretty vases. Perhaps you can write guest relations and ask. I have written them with such questions, it takes them a while to track it down but they usually will get back to you.
  12. We stayed at Le Petit https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g155032-d1473790-Reviews-Le_Petit_Hotel_Saint_Paul-Montreal_Quebec.html it is a wonderful hotel. Step outside directly into Old Montreal. You can even walk to port if you were not too laden with luggage, we did. The hop on bus is a few blocks away if you want to do a tour of the rest of the city. You will need an Uber or a taxi. When I was leaving the airport the HAL reps even offered to hail a taxi for me.
  13. Are those large, not as defined by HAL but in your opinion? I am sailing the OV cabin on deck 11, it has gotten reviews that say it is quite spacious. I am all about a little extra space. Thank you
  14. The point is there are glaciers everywhere not just the ones the ship pulls up to. One simply needs to open their eyes and look
  15. I am not fearful. I just like more ease and luxury.
