Convince me to keep my Crown Princess cruise
dockman replied to amcankid's topic in Princess Cruises
i just missed her as boarded on may 23....our speaker i thought was about as exciting as watching paint dry and his graphics looked like a 12 year old did them...though i suspect a 12 y.o. might have done better. -

Convince me to keep my Crown Princess cruise

Just off 21 days crown alaska on june 13.....it is a good ship and i saw nothing major re age as everything i used worked fine except they seem to have problems with the ice machines in buffet area but do provide big plastic containers full of ice and not a huge deal...saw several guys working on the machines but only a few actually worked... crew is/was great and i thought service was overall excellent.. .entertainment on princess like most other lines leaves a lot to be desired....but there is plenty enough to satisfy most..my biggest disappointment was the quality or lack of by the onboard lecture bunch...their presentations were bland pretty boring and the graphics/pics they used were just awful....surely they can do better ....my guess is a talent agency provides these university type lecturers but do a lousy job in vetting them.. ..the best by far was by linda riggins (one presentation only) who won the ididerade race and did a great presentation but of course that is for alaska cruises only.. yes showers are sorta small but unless u are a very large person they are fine.... and i actually prefer the older ships that still have a library and a wrap around promenade deck to the newer floating shopping centers. overall i give crown good marks -
As if the elite perks have not already been diminished enough just giving them to any and all makes them even less attractive. While it obviously doesn't bother some there are a lot of elites who were /are somewhat proud of finally achieving ELITE and don't think it is fair or proper to let non elite people move to the front of the line. So what's next? Priority boarding, priority tenders, free laundry, bar setup? Heck lets just make everybody ELITE and forget about the actual requirements to BE ELITE.
-
And next will be can i bring friends along for priority check in priority tender service etc etc....the problem is as with so many things give and inch and take a mile....and it puts the princess staff in the position of having to try and sort it out as to how many "friends" etc....elite perks should be for elite customers or at least spell out the rules as to whether you may bring cabin mates or exactly who how many friends are we talking about?

Island Princess cancelled Fox News & MSNBC

just off crown 21 days alaska on may 23-june 13 and they had msnbc, cnbc, fox, bbc, nat geo and few sports stations... -
actually several princess ships like grand, golden, emerald, crown still have a semi decent little library..it is mostly stocked with paperbacks that guests have left behind along with maybe two dozen princess provided books...also puzzles etc....i just got off 21 days on the crown and went there everyday and it seemed to be pretty heavily used for jigsaw puzzles etc....the entire room is maybe 500 or so square feet but it does work and is a nice amenity....sad that the big new ships can't figure out to at least dedicate 500 sf to a similar library....no it doesn't bring revenues but it also doesn't cost them diddly to provide this amenity that many people still use frequently
-
I wish all passengers would take a hint from you and be sure to set an alarm to come back and empty the machine when done.....there seem to always be a few "special people" who leave their clothes in a washer or dryer for 15-30 mins or more after they are done ....other people are waiting to use the machines but these special people don't care and often get nasty if people empty the machine and pile their clothes up so they can use the machines...."special people" apparently don't have watches or phones or can't be bothered with inconveniencing others.
-
free laundry and bar set up would be nice....thanks
-
So if i complete the 15th cruise on the first leg of a back to back do I get elite perks...free laundry and minibar set up on leg 2? Is it automatic or do i have to ask at desk?
-
yes but i just don't get it with all the space on a cruise ship that they can't at least set aside a few hundred square feet for some book shelves.... even if they are too cheap to provide hard back books then at least have a paperback library with a few hundred books....i have left/donated a lot of books over the years as have many many other cruisers...of course the wonderful days of having a library with nice lighting and seating would be even nicer but i realize the bean counters would much prefer to have yet more shop space selling a variety of t shirts, cups, refrigerator magnets and such valuable merchandise...though have to say it certainly seems they have just plenty of space already for all that "stuff".
-
Contrary to what the ebook fans claim most adults still prefer a paper book including a lot of cruise passengers. The share of adults who have read print books in the past 12 months still outpaces the share using other forms, but 30% now say they have read an e-book in that time frame.

If you left the package with them then i would assume it was simply a return so I would file a dispute with your credit card company that you did not receive the item as you returned it. I suspect it should be simple reversal on credit card charge unless for some reason the shop/receipt clearly stated no returns.

Vaccine proof for Alaska cruise leaving from Vancouver
dockman replied to Clovis8's topic in Princess Cruises
In a fraction of the time and effort to find and read all the conflicting info she could have already gotten the shot with less hassle and also provide her and others with protection as covid is still out there. -
a decade or so ago on a cruise syd to yvr the ship i was on also had huge lines for Lahaina tender...the big problem on that one was that for some reason the security screen x ray thing was done on the landside of the pier and everyone was having to go through security empty pockets and people of course had lots of bags of beach towels and shopping etc all of which was screened...to top it off they were even using the wand on most of the passengers....we thought it was overkill as we were all a bunch of old people who had already been on the ship for 10 days or so and not exactly the profile of a bunch of terrorists....not sure if security ashore by non cruise employees is still going on but back then it was a big mess that irritated a lot of people

Lots of salmon , many dead, in the streams...quite a sight.

That can certainly be true as a lot of savvy cruisers will cherry pick the best cabins leaving the unpicked for guarantees...however it is also possible that you "might" get lucky with an upgrade. If you do go with a guarantee cabin just don't whine and moan about it if you get a not so great room. It's a roll of the dice...sometimes you win, usually you don't. I am more interested in my rooms location than a lot of other factors and chose accordingly and then have it marked do not upgrade.

Shuttle from Salaverry Port to Trujillo??
dockman replied to Btimmer's topic in Holland America Line
IMO a pretty bad port. Wish I had stayed on the ship. -
For anyone who ever watches sports like March Madness you will soon learn that the word "experts" does not necessarily mean they have a clue as to winners/losers. Take a look at some of the experts brackets and these are people who watch hundreds of games, know the coaches, and maybe even played themselves. I don't see stock picking experts as being all that different. Educated guess seems a better description.

As said basic strategy has nothing to say regarding bet size so as far as basic strategy goes bet size is irrelevant. But yes of course you make a decision what to bet just as you make a decision whether to play at all, when to quit, etc.
-
Basic strategy doesn't care how much you bet. It does care if you know when to split, when to double, when to hit and when to stay. That is what basic strategy is all about.
-
Casinos love people who play their "hunches"....basic strategy is the best chance the average player has of actually winning. Casinos call it "gaming" as they love for people to think of it as a fun game rather than gambling where they are sure to lose if they play long enough and especially if they don't understand how basic strategy works and play 6/5 blackjack. The problem for some is that basic strategy takes all of the hunches and "fun" out of the game as you absolutely must follow the basic strategy guidelines every time which means you make zero decisions. So decide if you want to have a decent chance of actually winning or if you are content to have some "fun" and almost guaranteed to lose unless you are incredibly lucky playing feelings and hunches.

Ever read bringing down the house or the movie version 24? Doesn't look so easy but i guess with enough practice, a high math IQ, and the right team it can be done...good luck.
-
According to every BJ expert I have read 6/5 blackjack is a horrible deal for players but the casino knows that most people think it is no big "deal" . Of course if you play long enough you will ultimately get a black jack or several....and of course if you play long enough you will lose no matter what unless you can beat math or are an expert level card counter which is very rare. The odds are that u will be dealt a blackjack in about one of every 21 hands or almost 5% of the time.
-
6/5 Blackjack offers you a slightly lower payout. This may seem like a small difference, but it significantly affects your winnings. Here’s why it’s a huge difference: in 6/5 Blackjack, the house edge increases by 400%!
