  1. All the very best to your DIL1. Hope her labour goes smoothly and you have a healthy grandchild to announce here to us all very soon.
  2. There was a discussion on the WC thread about the volume level of the shows on Royal. VV are next level. I haven’t been to a full show yet, but the Bingo with Diva was at full volume including a song performance by Diva. I walked out of Bingo with a pulsing headache and had to skip the slot pull organised by our roll call that was scheduled immediately after as a result. I have a show booked for tonight but I am worried about how loud it will be in a small venue. It runs for an hour and it’s a standing only for the audience.
  3. @Ocean Boy beautiful photos. Never seen snow like that on the beach. Your dear friend with the beautiful house has just performed in Melbourne to a record breaking crowd - 96,000.
  4. @Sea Dog so sorry you are going through this. @Tree_skier definitely not a minor issue. Sorry you have been given the run around and agree with @A&L_Ont suggestions.
  5. Had another superb dinner on VV last night. In the opposite to Tree Skier’s frustrating experience - I was treated like a VIP last night. I was seated at my reserved table and my waitress had just left after we had discussed the best dishes for me and taking my order, when the Restaurant Manager and Assistant Manager came over and asked if I would give up my table as a gentlemen had come in who needed it. They were both profusely apologetic and very appreciative that I said yes. I just smiled and said it’s fine. Anyways, from then on from my perfectly acceptable new table,I was treated like a VIP. My drinks were comped, I had the Mgr & AM come over and sincerely apologise again and then the the Restaurant Manager personally served me each course and then checked I was enjoying each dish which I was. Never had this level of attention in my life and never will again. And all dishes were superb.
  6. @Arzeena & @LuckynanaThank you for asking. DD was prepped and ready for surgery but due to emergencies coming in, the orthopaedic surgeon did not operate on her until close to midnight (her time). Can’t believe she was operated on that late. Operation went well and she has had no pain since. She had a screw inserted in her fracture. She sent me the surgeon’s report yesterday. I said wow that is very detailed. She said yes, only problem is he has stated the wrong ankle. She originally planned to come home post operation but she is re-considering. Her friends are reporting that the path that she slipped on has been perfectly cleared and salted at 6.30am everyday since.
  7. Good evening. Just had the most beautiful weather in Burnie, Tasmania. Just rolled back on the ship after visiting 3 wineries including one with a lovely long lunch, a very scenic distillery, a few scenic lookouts, a waterfront place called Penguin (where the fairy penguins come ashore), looking for platypus in their natural environment and having the best strawberry ice-cream I’ve ever eaten / courtesy of The Berry Place just out of Devonport. Phone battery died mid-afternoon but here are some photos… Peek-a-boo - Pademelon searching for Platypus Beautiful environment for platypus For @Ocean Boy We had perfect weather today ☀️ Next stop was a chocolate factory. This Tasmanian Devil was made of chocolate. Afternoon winery was like a villa in Tuscany. Sadly my phone died at this point. Beautiful place to have wine tasting & sit and enjoy our wines. Final stop was The Berry Factory (10mins out of Devonport). Long queues for the strawberry or raspberry ice-cream but we all agreed it was worth the wait.
  8. I am thinking of watching it tonight. Although I’ve got to finish a long Wes Anderson movie first. Have you watched The Royal Hotel @lenquixote66 Australian movie but stars Julia Garner. Very Australian but I thought it was good.
  9. Bingo with a Diva - lots of fun - sadly didn’t win.Would have loved to win the jackpot (look closely at the bottom photo) or the one prior that I came very close to winning - $1589.00 Prizemoney in USD which would have been helpful for those upcoming expensive Alaskan excursions we have booked… Funny thing happened during Bingo though. Diva announced next game was green cards. The sheets we all had were brown so everyone checking those closest them to see if their booklet had an error. Diva then explained it was the lighting in the theatre. Lighting was changed and brown sheets became green…
  10. Thank you everyone for your good wishes for my DD. I love this group for what we can share & the support we give each other @helen haywood really appreciate your post detailing your experience and especially the outcome. DD is currently prepped and all ready for theatre. Now, back to cruising - I have to say so far Sir Richard Brandon’s ship is very nice and I do LOVE his hammock on the Sea Terrace Cabin Balcony and first night dinner at Extra Virgin - included in cruise cost (Italian) was VERY NICE. ps I don’t wear shoes in the hammock (just for the photo)
  11. @Ocean Boy Can you please explain this in layman’s terms? I am reading this as major surgery requiring 6-12 months recovery.
  12. Thank you. Great memory. You are correct on both counts. Especially the disappointment of a boring story for her injury! Adding salt to her wounds, her brother was due to drive to her resort so they could snowboard together for the very first time and a close friend from Australia is due to arrive at the resort soon and stay for a week and they had lots of plans together but she is young, she will recover and she will have lots of company to cheer her up whilst off the slopes.
  13. @sgmn have a lovely time in Singapore and enjoy Spectrum. From the current cc live that we are both following it looks like a lovely ship.
  14. Had dinner out tonight with a group including my Dad’s German friends. They have been blessed by lovely weather in Sydney so far and have been enjoying the sights. I don’t know what it is with us Aussies but after a long relaxing dinner, the talk turned to things in Australia that can kill you 🤦‍♀️ you know the usual suspects….and the various encounters everyone have had… Anyways, this reminded me of last weekend when I entered the top floor of a large indoor shopping complex and I noticed a couple about my age peering down the gap of the moving walkway. I assumed they had dropped something. No, they were discussing how they could gently move the large huntsman spider that they were looking at, from the side of the gap in the walkway to an outdoors area, safely
  15. Nasty accident but fortunate timing. Courtesy of DD I am learning of all the injuries on the ski slopes for skiers & snowboarders. Broken collarbones would appear to be number one. Concussion would be number two. DD is very thankful that she did not hit her head. The seriousness of the effects of concussion is something she is fully aware of now, as is the importance of a good quality helmet.
  16. She chipped a bone on her ankle but apparently the ligament(s) are the issue. I don’t know the full details yet. It was all a bit of a blur to her at the time. At the moment she is in a half cast & bandage from knee to ankle with surgery scheduled in a day or two.
  17. Oh no. Your grandson breaking his wrist on the first day of snowboarding. Glad it was a clean break though. Has it impacted him being able to do schoolwork? Yes, the operation will be in Canada. Thankfully all covered by insurance. One of her close friends got wiped out on the snowfields by an out of control snowboarder two weeks ago. DD went in the ambulance to the hospital with her and stayed by her side as her support person so she knows the hospital well. DD wasn’t on the slopes. She was simply walking out of her building and on the way to her work bus when she slipped on the icy path that hadn’t been salted.
  18. Very nice! Which direction does the balcony face? Sunrises or sunsets? Location sounds lovely with lakes & walking trails.
  19. Oh wow. My mechanic replaced both our mirrors on the Subaru Outback for $440.00 total. He sourced them second hand. Mind you they didn’t have your James Bond features 😀
  20. + 1 @Sunshine3601. I always worry driving in the heavy rain. Losing control like that in the snow would be scary.
  21. Icy path + ankle =. an early morning trip to hospital (once someone could be flagged down to help)at 6.30am and a teary call to parents in Australia in the early hours of the morning. The winter season has ended prematurely for one of my “kids”. Op in a few days time. Greg, all the best for your op. Trust it all goes smoothly and you have a good recovery.
  22. Saltburn, the movie. I succumbed to the hype. Certain Images are now seared into my brain. if you haven’t watched it, consider yourself warned.
  23. I second that other cruisers are friendly to solos. We board in Vancouver for our first Alaskan cruise and first time on Grand Princess. Enjoy your cruise.
