I'm not a fan of Carnival or NCL but we have little choice in the Northeast so I would consider them now because they are sailing fully vaccinated. However, Celebrity would be my first choice. Princess has no presence in the northeast except for Canada / New England and we know those aren't happening.

When the NCO expires and then looking a few years forward I think we'll all look back and think how foolish we were during this time frame of the re-start of cruising. Regarding the exrtremisms we all read on these boards.. I believe will be laughed at one day soon. But right now everyone is trying to find their balance on the re-opening of their lives.

As a nation of Royal Caribbean loyalists, I do wish us all the best. Well except those that are so vile and every so gloating their bigotry. Some of these people are truly the turds in life's fishbowl.

Once vaccinated, older people have not been dying.  Kids may never have been at risk of serious illness, but they do contract Covid and can be spreaders.  I have 2 kids under 10 in my family that had Covid, so it does happen.

While their parents were really sick, the kids only had bad colds, but they still were contagious.

So you have two kids and then their parents..... so which is it?

Stay safe and feel safe; stay out of Florida and Texas and board your cruise in a state which follows scientific guidelines.  The cruise industry didn't need those two states sticking their noses into ship protocols.

The balance of the country has  been following in. lock step that of Florida & Texas when it comes to the covid protocals. In fact, Texas has lead the way when Abbott reveresed the mask mandate. Now everyone is.

Exactly.  Vaccinated cruises aren’t afraid of getting sick.  They are afraid of having their cruise ruined because of an outbreak among unvaccinated cruises.  And angry they will have to deal with restrictions they wouldn’t have to if everyone was vaccinated

What your 'afraid' of doesn't matter. The fact is you're afraid and you shouldn't go or if you do go, it shouldn't be on the premise of penalizing others because you're fear.

If you're referring to the Miami Heat games -- yes, masks are required for everyone except when eating or drinking at designated food areas.  They have increased the capacity at the AA arena to 17,000 people from around 8,000, which is quite a jump.

In Texas, at Minute Mais Baseball Stadium, indoors when the roof is closed, they cane be 100% capacity and no. masks for vax or unvax. (100% capacity hes beenfor a few weeks now)

To be fair, when they did away with it they did not cite the law as the reason. They said it was due to complications with enabling their site for uploading the proof, and un-vaccinated people buying tickets in the vaccine-only areas, causing game-day seat shuffles that were too difficult to manage.

Well it sure sounds like a good public relations statement. 🙄

No. It's not being afraid it's being irritated, annoyed, frustrated. We've been vaccinated, we did what is necessary to return to normal life. We also expect to return to normal cruise life and not pay the penalty of having our cruise shortened by irresponsible vacationers.

    Jonathan

Don't get me wrong I do think you have every right to desire to return to a normal life. But cruising & the world just isn't normal yet. Especially when you combine the two. It's still a bit too early. I recognize the industry has to try but it's like squeezing a tub of butter into a small tube. You'll get some in but it's messy as hell.

Goodtime Cruizin, I am not going to argue with you, my contract reads:

"Costa reserves the right to reinstate the fuel supplement for all Guests up to $9 per person / per day, should the price of the light sweet crude oil according tothe NYMESX (New York Mercantile Exchange Index) increase above $70 per barrel"

so for 128 days that will be up to $ 1152.00, so I will be able to live with it. Just hadn't worked it out previously.

Not sure whether Princess has any clause similar to that one. I have not been to good reading the small-print in the past, but right now what else do I have to do then wait for my next cruise.

    Per my TA's cruise contract....

    FUEL SUPPLEMENT
Cruise lines reserve the right to re-instate the fuel supplement for all passengers if the New York Mercantile Exchange Index Oil prices exceed $65-$70 per barrel, even if a booking is paid in full or deposited. Surcharges are determined by the cruise line and range from $9-$12 a day, however this amount can change per cruise line. Cruises-XXX XXXX - will not add these fees unless the cruise line re-enacts the supplement. Please note, Cunard currently charges a fuel supplement and this fee is included in your invoice and subject to change.

But I thought we learned here on CC that anyone who doesn't want the vaccine is a selfish, self serving, smelly, Walmart shopping, anti-science, uneducated, Republican.  Surely you must have misunderstood their flag waving and signs.

    Ha! Pretty good stuff.

Fortunately for them their trade in Houston will offer them the largest Medical Center in the world for future employment. But they have choices, shoot up or be gone.

Methodist hospital is only one I’ve heard requiring the COVID vaccine for employees, to protect their patients.  Press reports about 99% already vaccinated.  (Saw on news about 100 employees have a lawsuit).

Does the law state as a matter of providing service (patrons), or does it also prohibit as a requirement for employment  ?

p.s. guess I am off topic with this post

Unless one is under contract, employment in the state of Texas is considered 'at will'  and therefore employedrs can, will, and have terminated employees for anything.

The Methodist nurses across the region are upset that they must take the vaccine to remain employed by Methodist, but the hospital group will win this one. I have a feeling it is why the we're seeing it in the news as they stand on the street corners waving flags and signs. They seek sympathy from the masses.

in my humble opinion prices will go up, the price for oil has reached $ 70.00 per barrel already and lot's of people are waiting to book until they know what the mandates are going to be. I am booked on a Costa Cruise where the small print reads that if the price of oil reaches $ 70.00 per barrel the price will go up. So I am sitting here waiting to see how much more my good deal will end up costing me.

The oil prices will have an effect but not at $70. Most cruises we've been on the oil prices were hifgher than $70. The world is starting to wake up and get going again as a result the usage worldwide is going back up too. Ships were sitting idle barely moving when oil dropped so cheap.

  12. We'll sometimes watch the Ship's channel, I forgot what they call it. But anyway, we'll watch that and reruns of the ship's activities as we prepare for whatever or wherever we're headed to next. We once were on the Love & Marraige show and I didn't think it was really a large crowd that night or at least the seats didn't look completely full. Anyway, we had no idea they showed replays for a few days afterwards. The balance of the week where ever we went someone would say, "Hey I saw you on TV last night!". It just seemed like more people saw us on the TV as opposed to the live show that evening. Strange. But so fun. So I guess TV time happens but we don't use it much. We definitely try to avoid the news.

  13. On a side note, last weekend I was watching the toronto Blue Jays & the Houston Astors. They played the game in Buffalo, NY due to the travel restrictions to Canada. Anyway, it was being played in a Triple AAA stadium which I thought was pretty cool for the fans in Buffalo. What I found completely odd was the seperation of the fans.

Non Vaxed on the 1st base side w/ masks

Vaxed on the 3rd base side w/ no masks.

In order for the stadium officials to do this, they had to ask or require proof of vaccine. This can't or won't fly in Florida or Texas.  The Texas Rangers or the Houston Astros would not even think to request this info. So alot of this is all in the mindset to the culture of the region, state, or city. If I flew to Buffalo, I would have to abide by their rules. Likewise, those that cruise from wherever.... Bayonne or Miami... you're going to have to abide by those rules. It only makes sense.

How so? It appears modeled after Florida's law. Vaccine verifications are prohibited but masks, testing, etc. aren't. Only "better" thing is no fine - just possible business loss and loss of license, etc.

Believe me when I tell you that here in Texas, very few business' will be punished as there is absolutely no one requiring proof of vaccine. I do think this was put into place as a safeguard.

Yes this is me exactly, I'm waiting to see where the chips fall before booking. The issues of vaccines, masks, politics etc will get straightened out eventually, but price is actually my biggest concern for the future.

It was our concern as well. We cancelled a July 2021 cruise this past Jan as we did not think it would go, so we re-booked a very similar cruise for Aug 2022. Allowing things to settle. The July 2021 cruise was officially canclled just before Memorial Day and today, the Aug 2022 cruise has already doubled in price. Prices continue to up, up, & up. I see no let down for some time going forward.
