  1. Me two, we plan on taking one similar to one you show in your post. We've taken it on many cruises before without any issues. I'd sure like to hear from folks taking RCI cruises in the next couple of weeks - we sail on the Brilliance in about 4 weeks. Doug
  2. Thank you for your experience. Well, no exactly a winning endorsement, but I'll take it that their croissants will at least be tolerable. ☺️ Did you by any chance use cabin/room service for lunch or dinner? We have some issues for our next month cruise that could make that necessary for us, although we have never used that service on a ship before. If you did, how was the wait time, food quality, temperature, etc. Thanks
  3. Oooh, that makes me sad! For morning cabin service, we always ask for a couple of croissants with our coffee. I know what you mean about bad ones; we love cruising Princess but in the early years there awful croissants were the worse we'd had. I agree, even Carnival makes a good croissant, and I recall Celebrity and HAL also. Maybe our experience on the upcoming Brilliance cruise from NOLA will be better.....sure hope so. Doug
  4. Thanks for that added info. We don't use any social media, and I have not used Zoom, and I don't think I'd need it except for this cruise, so I will pass. Thanks for the information though, I appreciate folks who try to held, even old farts like me....... Doug
  5. Thanks. That is what I assumed. I'll stick with the tested "handwritten-note-left-on-the-cabin-floor" technique. It works well as long as the other person drops by the cabin.😉 Doug
  6. Thanks for that. I've forgotten how that worked. I suppose there will be instructions in the cabin or in the daily planner also. Perhaps a dumb question: Once I've followed you instructions, I am assuming I cannot use the phone to text my wife and tell her where on the promenade deck I'm napping?😉 Doug
  7. Thanks ya'll. It WOULD be easier on the phone app I suppose, but we typically turn off and toss our phones into the safe after boarding!😉 I'd use my tablet, but mine is one of the ones that RCI does not support, darn it. I suppose I'll have to take the phone out once or twice to check the account; I can manage that. I'll still continue to get a "hard copy" a day or two prior to the end of the cruise where I can do my pencil doodling.😎 Better to react to a possible problem then than on the last day. Doug
  8. The title says it all! 😉 I like to check our shipboard account every few days and it's always handy to have that in the cabin, especially if available on the TV. I'm hoping that it will be, as it has been on our recent non-RCI cruises. Doug
  9. Yes, which I will gladly accept if I choose to sail on NCL! But it's never made me choose NCL over a more attractive cruise on another cruise line. Another thing that makes NCL attractive to me is their Military Appreciation OBC. Once again, an OBC that does us little good if we have their "Everything included" package, but I've been know to spend "all" that non-refundable OBC down to the last penny on numerous occasions on stuff for which I have little use! Lately, however, I've used it for a bottle or scotch or such in the ship's store - that $100 OBC buys me a nice bottle of $60 scotch. 😉 Doug
  10. Yep, that's the way to look at it. Frankly though, I am surprised that cruise line prices are all staying low considering how fully (plus) booked their ships continue to be. I suppose it will take a few years, but seems like the money they lost in those COVID years will be recouped pretty quickly at this rate....and now is the time to buy I suppose. But I already have the minimum NCL and CCL stock holdings, and don't need another investment. Those two cruise companies operate from NOLA, which is where we will surely cruise now we've decided to avoid flying as much as possible. We can drive to that port. NOLA has Carnival and NCL almost exclusively. We're booked RCI this Fall out of NOLA, but who knows if RCI will remain in NOLA....plus their fares have about doubled since I booked this October cruise many months ago. Doug
  11. Thanks. I've never heard of DI until today. Who'd have thought CC would be so educational?😉
  12. Yep, we took a cruise the previous weekend one Mardi Gras, and I will NEVER do that again!😬 Now I check Mardi Gras dates online before booking! The weekend after Mardi Gras is no problem at all, at least in our experience. Doug
  13. I might be able to make everyone feel a bit better about NCL's stock price. I bought 100 shares of CCL pre-covid at their high price, I think about $65 dollars per share around 2018; today it's at $15.55. I don't want to do the math, but I suspect I lost a lot. 🥲 I did get about $2k in OBC though through the years however. We used to sail Princess on Hawaii RTs, and those $250 credits added up nicely. I bought NCL post COVID. I am not sure at what price, I don't pay attention to that. Like CCL, I bought it only for the OBCs. Doug
  14. Excuse my ignorance please. What is the difference between DI Water and Distilled Water from a medical point of view. My wife uses distilled water in her CPAP machine, but I am not familiar with De-ionized water. Thanks. Doug
  15. I read here on CC that the MDR was not open for lunch on port days. My wife and I prefer to avoid the WindJammer/Lido deck buffet, and wonder if we can order cabin/room service on port days? We often eat ashore those days, but we've been to some of our next cruise ports so often we might stay on the ship. I understand there is a $7.95 charge, plus tip for cabin delivery (total for the two of us); that's just fine. Doug
  16. Can anyone tell me what the cost is, if there is one, for cabin delivery of meals? We ordinarily don't use that service except for morning coffee, but on our next cruise we might have to spend more time in the cabin that usual. Doug
  17. Thanks. Mine Samsung tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, SM-T220. I think that model is their "El Cheapo Deluxe" Samsung tablet maybe? I think I paid about $140 for mine a few years ago, and I see yours probably cost about twice that. I suppose that's the reason, but who'd think there would be so much difference between too similar sounding models. In any event, I can live with the app on a tablet (at least at that price!) I'll just continue to squint at my phone's screen and fat-finger my entries.😁 Doug
  18. Ah, I probably won't bother......thanks for that update.
  19. Hmmmmmm, sounds like a good project for a rainy day....I may try that ...once. The only reason I'd like the app to work is we have decided to not fly to cruises anymore, which means sticking with whatever cruise lines sails from NOLA in our case. That's Carnival, NCL and RCI and very occasionally Disney. We avoid Carnival, we're not interested in Disney, so that leaves the two three-letter ones. If RCI has an interesting itinerary or decent price we may sail with them again. Doug
  20. Sounds like the logical thing to do! I will try the suggestion by ProMedic above and it that fails; so be it.
  21. Thanks for that suggestion, I will try that. I'm not that hopeful it will work though...and it's not a big deal if it won't. Doug
  22. Yeah, I considered doing that a few years ago. I had and still do have several Amazon Fires I use mainly for books (90%), email (5%) and the internet (5%). I like Fires and especially their prices. In lieu of modifying my Fire, I figured I'd just get a "real" tablet for cruising, which I did a few years back. I got the Samsung for a Princess cruise I think it was several years ago because I did not want to use my phone on board. I'm pretty computer savvy, I retired from that industry about 20 years ago, but I am loathe to modify any operating system if there is a workable alternative; which they is, my phone. I'll grit my teeth and use it........ Doug
  23. Thanks. I have to agree with you; it's something else. The app works fine on my cell phone. I don't cruise RCI a lot, the last time was about 3-4 years ago, and I used my laptop onboard for everything, including going to RoyalCaribbean.com. But I thought I'd go lighter this next cruise and leave the laptop at home. Odd attitude on RCI's part. I think there are a lot of Samsung tablets among their cruisers. Maybe it's just me and most would use their smart phone.....and maybe their eyes are better than my old 'uns?🤓 Doug
  24. I have a Royal Caribbean app on my phone that works fine, but I hate trying to do anything with such a tiny device. I have a Samsung tablet and would like to get the app for it, but searching Google PlayStore with the tablet shows only "My RCL", which is an app for applying for an RCI job. If I search for the app using my desktop computer, I can find the Royal Caribbean International app that looks (on the PC) like my phone. But, if I try to click to install onto my Samsung tablet the PC screen says it is not compatible for my Samsung tablet. What the heck? Anyone have any luck downloading the android app to their Samsung android tablet? If so, I'd like to know the exact app name and the device on which you installed it. I know I can always use my phone, but as I said earlier, I'd rather use the larger tablet. It would really be nice if I could find the app for my Amazon Fire tablet as I prefer it to the Samsung one, but I don't believe that's available for Fire. Doug
