  1. I completely agree. I’m blond and fair skinned but I was raised with my sister who was African American. I saw firsthand how differently we were treated in the same exact settings, how we were constantly questioned when we introduced each other as sisters.
  2. Was she the only child in the car with you? Would you feel the same if you had 3 other children in the car, one of which was of a different skin tone and they asked that question of just that child? Maybe race wasn’t an issue in the case of the OP, but when the different race child is singled out, it makes you wonder.
  3. No one is implying that it does. My point is that as long as the child had the necessary documentation to board ( the same as her siblings) she should not have been singled out.
  4. I think that you are assuming that all biological families look alike and that is simply not true. Different branches of the same family can intermarry with different skin tones. Biological cousins can look vastly different as can half siblings. That doesn’t mean the different looking child is possibly being trafficked. The child in this case had a US passport and a US driver’s license. That should have been the end of it.
  5. That is just awful! People make assumptions based on skin color all the time but you would expect better training from the staff of a big international cruise line. I had a similar experience at an airport. My grand nieces are African American like their mother, my nephew’s wife. I am fair skinned and blond. I have flown them up several times as unaccompanied minors several times to visit from Florida to NY mostly without incident. However the last time I picked them up, I spent about 20 minutes with a clerk who refused to release them to me even though I was named on the paperwork and had my picture ID with me. The clerk insisted that my young nieces explain our relationship, and verify that I was their aunt. This was never required on previous pickups from the same airline and airport. Obviously I am certainly in favor of protocols ensuring that unaccompanied minors be released to the correct individual, but this questioning of my young nieces was beyond the protocols. I hope to cruise with them in the future and hope we don’t have similar issues
  6. We are on the Celebrity Ascent, docking in San Juan 1/30/2024, 3pm-10pm. We have been to PR many times, have walked around in old San Juan, the fort, Conrad etc. We are looking for something different to do and saw an activity listed on TA that sounded interesting: kayaking at night on kayaks lit up with LED lights. There were only 5 reviews. Has anyone done this? Any other thoughts? Thanks
  7. I’m on her next month. Thanks for the heads up!
  8. Thank you for your response. We love to hang out on our balcony so before bidding on that category we want to make sure it would work for us.
  9. I just sent an email requesting a reservation. Is it a quick Uber from the port? We will be on the celebrity Ascent 1/18/2024 sailing which arrives in PR 1/30 if anyone wants to share a cab
  10. Great thank you! I’m definitely going to check it out.
  11. What is the LV? Sorry if it’s a stupid question
  12. What deck were you on? Was there an overhang? Were you able to get sun on your balcony? Thanks
  13. I’m on the same sailing also on a sunset veranda! Yes CC is certainly a small world. I put in a few bids: aqua sky suite and Sunset sky suite. I’m not hopeful because they are minimum bids and it seems that the bulk of the move ups occurred in the last few days. I didn’t bid in the sky suite category because I didn’t want to take the chance that I’d be assigned a MC suite. But now that it seems that I’m not getting a move up, the MC is looking pretty good
  14. No catch, other than when I go on a comped cruise I feel I have to gamble more in order to keep getting offers. They know what they are doing lol
  15. You need to call them, and also go: bluechipoffers.com and go to the menu at the top left hand corner. There is an option to fill out a form if you aren’t receiving your offers. Be prepared to make multiple calls and wait for it to be corrected. I’ve been struggling with this issue for months and it still hasn’t been fixed
  16. You are special!!! However This isn’t a special offer from Blue Chip. They have a point system. If you gamble to a certain level, you get an offer that is sent to all at that level. My husband gets the same offer as you do. I gamble more and usually am offered a veranda. My sister in law gambles a couple of hundred per cruise and sometimes just gets a small discount
  17. Thank you for your informative post. I’m amethyst tier and have not found the casino hosts to be very helpful at all. Maybe I’m not gambling enough. I’ll make more of an effort next cruise.
  18. Oh I wasn’t aware of that. Thank you. We did put in our bids. We are already in a sunset veranda and would only give up that balcony if we could get a sky suite which is unobstructed. We didn’t bid on the sky suite category because we didn’t want to take the chance of being assigned a Magic Carpet sky suite. So that only leaves an Aqua Sky suite or a Sunset Sky Suite, which are not very plentiful. Fingers crossed!
  19. I have move up bids pending on an upcoming cruise that seems sold out on the Celebrity website. Do I still have a shot? I know it is possible in theory with last minute cancellations, but is there anyone out there where this has actually worked out?
