Sold Out Optional Tours/Dining Reservations Prior to Sailing
OneSixtyToOne replied to Pegct's topic in Viking Ocean
That all depends on your specific cruise, port of call, arrival time, and length of the tour. In general the included tours are offered at various times starting in the morning and in some cases extending into early afternoon. For example here are two for our upcoming cruise. It will be different in every port of call. Panoramic Athens & Archaeological Museum INCLUDED Day 6 – Athens (Piraeus), Greece Wednesday 7:45 AM / 8:00 AM / 8:15 AM / 12:45 PM / 1:00 PM 3.5 Hours Scenic Chania by Foot INCLUDED Day 8 – Crete (Souda Bay), Greece Friday 8:30 AM / 9:00 AM / 9:30 AM / 12:45 PM / 1:00 PM 3 Hours As soon as the excursions are up on MVJ you will be able to see the times when you click on “learn more” -
San Diego 2 days post cruise questions
OneSixtyToOne replied to ddeprez's topic in West Coast Departures
The airport, cruise terminal and Balboa Park are all located in the same compact area. San Diego is a major convention destination. That means there are thousands of hotel rooms available in the downtown area. Be aware that at certain times, like Comic-Com in July, the rates can skyrocket as available becomes scare. They sooner you book, the better. BTW I highly recommend spending a day or two in Balboa Park. In addition to the zoo, it’s home to a dozen museums and numerous gardens. It’s the largest urban cultural park in the country. The facades on the buildings were used in the movie Citizen Kane to represent Kane’s fictional palatial estate of Xanadu. It’s worth a walk along The Prado, the park’s main walkway, just to experience the architecture. -
New to River Cruise - looking for recommendations
OneSixtyToOne replied to dacf's topic in River Cruising
This is one of the big reasons we prefer river cruising to ocean cruising. You have much more time in the heart of the city and much less time commuting from the port to where you want to go. BTW since train travel was mentioned I highly recommend Viking's Paris to the Swiss Alp cruise. Their trip extension to Geneva & Zermatt includes a First Class train ride across Switzerland on the famous Glacier Express. Zermatt is absolutely gorgeous and the Matterhorn is breathtaking. This is by far the best cruise extension we have ever experienced. We traveled in reverse from Switzerland to Paris. I always want to do the more rigorous part of the trip in the beginning before we are completely exhausted from all the days traveling. River cruising will definitely allow you to sleep well at night. -
Good to know. I don't eat seafood and every menu contains it. I thought I could substitute but DW was aghast that I would try. Will give it a try on our upcoming cruise.

“steak for fish or salmon for lamb“

It appears Viking has booked us at the NJV Athens Plaza. Hoping for the best. At the very least, a much better location.
-
On a different thread this subject was brought up. You can buy a small inexpensive Bluetooth transmitter that attaches to the earphone port.
-
There may have been a slight increase in price. Our current booking allows us to purchase the SSP at 19.85 per day per person
-
I doubt the $1100 off the price was because you booked onboard. It was probably a current promotion that is available to anyone who knows the promo code. Other than the OBC which has to be used on the current cruise, I don't see any additional advantage with booking onboard vs waiting for a better promotion to come along. The river cruises allow you to purchase vouchers at %50 on the dollar. They can be used on any future voyage and are fully transferable to another person. IMO a better deal

I wonder if bone conducting headphones could be a solution?

Just an EBD yesterday but a new River Cruise itinerary that combines Lyon & Provence with the Rhine Getaway.

Didn’t you get the memo? The standard uniform for men is a polo shirt and khaki pants. 😉

Thanks. Ours says the same.

We are booked on the Classic Greece pre cruise extension in Athens. Does anyone know what hotel is being used? The website and the invoice state the Athens Hilton but when you do a Google search it states that the hotel is closed until 2024 for major renovations. The property is being rebranded "Conrad" and partly converted into residences.

If you read the offer under “Viking Inclusive Value” they are referring to cruises that offer free air. They also state it’s “a cruise fare that covers everything you need.” This is essentially true. No additional port taxes & fees, included tours, beer and wine with meals, ground transfers with air, wi-if, lectures, etc. It’s not a booze cruise.

lol Been doing that for years, especially when you have a "notice me" type talking loudly on the phone. Just interject comments and amuse yourself. -
New behavior patterns on Viking Ocean since COVID?

More than anything this goes to the heart of the matter. People either have no awareness of how their actions impact others or they simply don't care. It's all about self and ironically they have no self-awareness. I recently heard a discussion about how society has changed over the last two decades and how the pandemic has accelerated the trend. Everything around us caters to the individual and instantaneous gratification. Want music? You don't have to wade through a whole album to hear your favorite, you create you personal play list. Want to watch a TV show. You no longer have "appointment TV." Watch it anytime, anywhere. Hungry? No need to wait in line at you favorite restaurant. Call Grub Hub and whatever you want is at your door in minutes. Don't like what your child is being taught at school? Teach them at home with a curriculum you've curated. Don't agree with what you see and hear on the news? Only listen to what reinforces your belief system. All of this undermines the social contract.- 179 replies

According to the customer Q&A, only one device can be used at a time. The “eight” probably means the number of devices it can remember pairing to but only one can be active.

Pre-Cruise Extension (Madrid): Viking offered excursion
OneSixtyToOne replied to Kamfish642's topic in Viking Ocean
Pre and Post cruise extensions will not list anything for that day in MVJ. Excursions are "baked" into the extension and there is no need to reserve a time for them. -
