  1. Last September we did an Alaskan Cruise on Celebrity which included Hubbard Glacier and Endicott, and then 2 weeks later a NCL cruise which included Glacier Bay. Both left from Vancouver. Hubbard Bay was absolutely amazing and we were underwhelmed by Glacier Bay. If I had a choice between the two I would go for Hubbard every time. However as others have said, also the amount of (quality) time that you have at the other stops also needs to be a factor and the most time that you can spend somewhere to really take in everything needs to taken in
  2. Is Cai Lan port the same as Hong Gai when applying for a Visa for Ha Long Bay? Or are we going to not be able to get an e-visa. I am still not sure about what port to put down for Phu My either.
  3. I did the same. Added a couple more excursions and upgrade our wifi and still came out way in front.
  4. When we booked in January, we let them know that I had dietary restrictions. We reminded them when we sat down and it was fine as they had already prepared a dessert as I couldn't have either of the two offered, and organised alterations to any of the other dishes necessary for me (GF sauce instead of the normal one, baked potato instead of mashed as I can't have lactose etc) They were very good as long as they knew beforehand.
  5. I was on the Eclipse in both January and April this year. I can't have lactose as well as being Celiac. On our first day for both cruises we went straight to the MDR on boarding and I ordered my meal for that night, however in April, they had recognised me and knew that I had food allergies just not what. Every night I ordered from the next night's menu. There were only a couple of things that they wouldn't give me. They didn't trust the sauce for the seafood cocktail as that was pre-made and not made onboard so they wouldn't let me have it. There was pre-made ravioli as well from memory so that was off the menu, but almost everything else was made GF and LF. Every night I had a special dessert. My two favourite's were a creme brulee that was made LF, and a flourless chocolate cake. I agree about the bread situation. The only time I liked it was when it was toasted, but then again I'm not fond of most GF breads. In the buffet things were marked as GF but I made sure I confirmed before I took any. Again, the waitstaff recognised me in the buffet and were very good at letting me know what I could and couldn't have.
  6. We were on the Eclipse in September, January and April. We have previously sailed on the Solstice and the Century. When we boarded the Century in 2014 we thought she was the most beautiful ship we had ever seen and we knew she was old. When we saw the Solstice in 2016 we were wowed. We still thought the Eclipse was lovely this year and have been wondering what all the complaints were about. Yes, there might be some chairs that are a bit uncomfortable in the general areas, but only some but on the whole it was a great ship and we would go one her again in a flash.
  7. Is it one of the migraine injectables? I had to ask for a sharps container last year, but because of Covid we didn't end up boarding that particular cruise, so I still haven't found out and I will be needing one early next year instead. Our cruise in January I take it the day before we fly to Hong Kong and the day we get home from Bali.
  8. That's what I just said to my husband.
  9. If anyone can afford to gamble a million on a cruiseship they could probably charter the ship for them and their vaping friends and it wouldn't be a problem for plebs like us on standard cruises.
  10. It was seeing posts on the Book of Faces that sent me here to see if anyone was on either the Eclipse or Equinox to confirm it was happening. Lots of concerned posts there as well.
  11. Thank you so much.
  12. We are on a Celebrity Cruise this January and our first port of call is Halong Bay and our last port of call in Vietnam is Phu My. Does anyone have any idea as to what I need to put? Luckily I have a few months before I need to do anything.
  13. Is it the President's cruise on the Eclipse this week or has that passed? Maybe I am just putting two and two together and getting 5. I wonder if she is planning on going on the Equinox in the next few weeks without any fanfare?
  14. My thoughts as well. Why would I or any other non-vaper even think to mention that I would be happy to have vapers in the casino. As a chronic asthmatic and migraine sufferer I'm not happy to have any scents anywhere but that is beside the point. Perfumes happen, but vapes don't have to. Has anyone ever seen this question on the questionaire? Or is it something they are pulling out of their hats
  15. I had this issue last year. I booked the cruises as we had been told to get the rooms we wanted to book rather than do a hold as I had done previously and I immediately filled out a form to transfer to our TA which she submitted and Celebrity ignored. Our TA kept contacting them and asking when she was getting the booking so she could add my name to it as it wouldn't let me put my name on the second leg of the S2S. Hubby laughed and said that he hadn't yet decided if he was taking me and Celebrity knew this. After over 3 months Celebrity got back to our TA and told her she couldn't have them. I had to refill in forms and we sent in a paper trail showing their incompetance and within 48 hours the cruises were finally back with our TA. The main reason we wanted her to have them is because she currently has FCC from 2 cruises that Celebrity cancelled on us last year that we want to use as payment for them.
  16. The greenscreen did images of ports we visited. For example, when we were in New Zealand, at Tauranga, two months earlier (when they still had the backdrop out on deck 5 as you went into the Ensemble Lounge) the green screen had Hobbiton on it. In September on an Alaskan cruise we had images of something from each port as the background. I think on chic nights though they had a fairly plain background so that we didn't clash.
  17. On the Eclipse in April they still had a package for regular photos. It wasn't advertised at all, but you had to go to the photo desk every night where they had a green screen set up in a room behind the desk. They had photographers that did the speciality dining rooms and then on chic nights in the MDR. Luckily with our Elite discount the package only ended up costing us around $45 for the cruise (12 nights) as we didn't know what was happening for the first two nights and one night there were no photos at all because we were late leaving port, but we were also the only ones that had the package for the whole cruise so the photographers were happy when we turned up and they could have a chat with us.
  18. I'm wondering what happened between April this year and now, as well as January and now. In April we didn't have sheers on our curtains but we were in a verandah, but in January we certainly did in concierge. As to everything else I thought that the Eclipse was doing pretty well considering that the refurb had been put off because of Covid. The staff do an excellent job keeping everything clean.
  19. I got off as you got on. I hope we left it in good shape for you after our 13 days.
  20. I have just come off the Eclipse last week and I am both Coeliac and Lactose intolerant. In the MDR I was given GF bread every night and I asked for oil & vinegar instead of butter. For breakfast there is a special GF bread toasting area in the buffet. At lunch I didn't look for bread but the toaster was still there so I assume I could have got bread there if I asked. GF Pizza and Pasta could be made in the buffet on request and everything was labelled so I knew what I could eat at all the other stations. At night I got the next days menus and I selected what I wanted them to make me for the following day. It didn't have to be anything labelled as GF, but they would make it that way and also make it LF as well. A 'surprise' dessert was made for me every night. My favourites were the flourless chocolate cake, lactose free creme brulee and a tiramisu.
  21. Last year our plan was to do a transpacific from Vancouver on Celebrity late September, do the Hawaiian islands and Tahiti and continue on home to Australia. Covid intervened and hubby had to isolate for 10 days in Vancouver and we missed the ship. Our wonderful TA found a NCL ship (the Spirit) that was leaving 2 days after his isolation finished (early October) and heading to Hawaii as well as doing 3 Alaskan stops and a day cruising the Glaciers. We jumped at it. The Spirit was a small ship but very nice. There wasn't lots of bells and whistles, but we weren't looking for that. Our biggest complaint was that even though we had a drink package we still had to pay for water and coffees, not a lot of variety in the buffet for lunches and because our room was a guarantee it was right next to the elevators it was noisy. The other complaint was the entertainment in the theatre. We love going to the theatre on Celebrity, not so much on the Spirit. The quality was not the same.
  22. We did the new menu that started early this year on the Eclipse so I think was late last year on other ships. I had 2 fish dishes (one of the alternate menu), short ribs and then they gave me a very nicely dressed mango sorbet with fruit as I couldn't have the GF dessert as it was a dairy based one. One of my fish courses was slightly different to my husbands as our sauces/broth were made differently but they were delicious. We did tell them at booking that I had dietary needs but I don't know if that got passed along as we booked at a B2B meeting and it was the first night of the second cruise.
  23. I will need to find your Eden video. We are going on the Edge next year when it comes to Australia and I'm GF and LF. It will be nice to see how it goes. I was very pleased with the normal speciality restaurants this past January and just how my meals ended up, including in Le Petit, where I was a bit worried I wasn't going to be able to get anything.
  24. I didn't, but I board again in a few days for Noumea, Fiji, Tonga and Mystery Island. Many beach excursions in Noumea have been cancelled because of recent shark attacks. Our trip to Amadee Island is no longer showing, but we haven't heard of the day being cancelled.... yet. Tonga has very few excursions, still because of the volcano/tsunami event. The place we were supposed to go last time we were informed after it was far too late to arrange anything else was now just a toilet block, and the shipwreck for snorkelling etc was out of bounds. Fiji being the mainland rather than islands doesn't have a lot, but we are going out to one of the Manamuca Islands this time at Lautoka so I can tell you what I see others doing there. Mystery Island has almost nothing offered via the ship, and I will have a look at what the locals are offering when I am there. When we were at Samoa we did a land tour which went to a lot of land water areas, and in American Samoa we went out to a village on an island. That last tour was probably one of our highlights. The chief of the island took us around, told us what life was like for them and what his life was like before (he was in the military before his father-in-law died and he was called back home to be the chief).
  25. I'm hoping they don't give up on Hong Kong as I am about to book our flights to get there to board the ship as you get off. We can wave to each other.
