  1. actually UBER XL would be my recommendation unless you are VERY big packers.
  2. editorial wrt to my previous post: I just compared the menu at Vers' to that of La Car' ...... neither shows prices BUT .... hmmmmmm and example La Car' Vers'
  3. I live near the port and often use UBER to go to/from the airport. Occasionally I have an issue getting a ride from the airport on 'standard'. If I up to PLUS I get a ride in minutes for just a few dollars more
  4. the port HERTZ office closed during COVID and is only recently reopened . . .
  5. NATIONAL/ENTERPRISE/ALAMO has a shared location at the port in order of distance away (none more than a couple of miles) HERTZ (this one was closed during COVID but I've heard it is open now) BUDGET THRIFTY/DOLLAR and AVIS across the road
  6. TU .. fat finger and for the record I did live in the San Fran area for a couple of years and there are some good places to eat in the Fisherman's Wharf area, but P39 specifically is ugh, as I would say about most in Bayside.
  7. today, half the folks on the ship want to 'self debark early' ..... defeating the entire idea. I'm with you, book the later flight and reduce stress! I'm typically in the 'board late' club too ... skip the 'me first' crush
  8. people are often surprised to learn that Miami isn't really 'water front'. By Biscayne Bay marketplace I'm guessing you mean Bayside? Ugh ..... all tourist junk as bad as Pier 39 in San Fran which a local will never visit ..... If you've never been to Miami b4 then go CUBAN ..... from your hotel an UBER to Versailles should run around $20 and this is good Cuban food. BETTER is just across the street tho, La Carreta. V is kind up scale and 'famous' with one location. La C' has several locations around the city and is where Miamians go!!! I'm told all owned by same family. https://www.lacarreta.com/
  9. wearing Viking's headset during an excursion .....
  10. 1) A LOT has changed in 20 years!!!! You can pretty much forget the old dress code. Today on pretty much all cruise lines except CUNARD, formal night is a recommendation / option. Food is NOT what you might remember. 2) In the future you may want to look at a line like VIKING with smaller boats. Not as much walking and more 'included stuff'. And Viking is no kids ..... 3) May want to consider River Cruises ..... a totally different experience. Yes a cruise but 130 folks versus thousands .... and new places to go.
  11. "The Flybussen stop would be a fairly long walk from the ship when pulling luggage" have done this multiple times ....about 0.4 miles ... 640 yards .... last cruise started in Bergen and we stayed nite b4 at R'Blu specifically because the last stop for the bus is here (can't get off at wrong place ... or hard to anyway). If you cross the street and walk waterside it is smooth .. not cobble stones. P.S. our 'included tour' was a boat ride that started across from R'Bue, They walked us from terminal to here for the excursion! Even with a bum hip, I made it .....
  12. this mall is not particularly 'healthy' ...... many empty store fronts. barely hanging on . . .
  13. Flam is a very different place when there's no cruise ship .... yes ... that's people swimming in Flam . . . not a pool!
  14. we did the Nutshell option: cruise ended in Bergen where we spent two nights, then did Nutshell train/bus/ferry to Flam and spent a nite there, then train from FLAM to Myrdal and met the Oslo train ... spend two more nights . . .plenty of flight options out of Oslo back to US . . . We'd done Viking Midnight Sun, Greenw' to Bergen . .
  15. I just ran thru UBER app PE terminal 26 to Ft L airport DELTA and get $17 for X and $23 for XL ... remember that's for the CAR how ever many fit. Your price may vary as that's how UBER works but it should be close. Concur if you trip on the curb leaving the port you skin your knee on airport property
  16. exactly why the fed up population of Key West got local government to make rules limiting numbers of cruise visitors .... Venice too . . we did not experience this last year but our excursions took us well out of town / walking distance (Viking Ocean 'included excursion')
  17. 'worth it' is a very subjective question .... it is up to you to decide. IMO at $25 per person per day they are giving it away. For me - I like a drink b4 dinner and often a drink after, maybe more than one. - beer and wine IS included with lunch/dinner - I often like a coke or a been outside of meal times. I could go to the room and get the coke, the beer would cost me. With the package I just wave at a waiter or hop to a bar. - wine at lunch dinner is a selected white or red and IME changes daily. With the package we order from the wine list .... our choice. Not always a fan of the 'selected for us' - description mentions 'specialty coffees' but since we're not big fans have never really pursued. I know the 'machine' in world cafe can make capa' and expresso so I guess they are talking about the coffee bar. I've had at Explorer bar too, dunno if they charge normally - I already had the package. - I put in same category as pre-paid tips. One less thing to worry about at the end of the trip. - last time I sailed RCCL they wanted $65 per person per day for the same ..... that was an EASY decision 😵‍💫 if one drink a day or less is your thing, are happy with the 'included wine', and are of the 'grab a can and take it with when leaving the Cafe club' then NO the SS is not worth it.
  18. my experience with flybus last July ... they use a 'local' bus to collect folks from around town and bring you to the bus terminal where you transfer to a 'long haul' bus for the ride to the airport. The extra time wasn't A LOT but it did add time. The trip to the airport was nearly 90 minutes from downtown hotel (near the port ... actually one of the hotels Viking Ocean uses) It is possible your cruise could book special bus based on demand but if you are considering flybus as an OPTION to a booked transfer I'd say it would be longer time wise . .
  19. there is a hop on / hop off bus that's decent ... not the best we've used but decent. It will take you to the cluster of attractions I've circled after a tour of the city ... obviously not the only place you can get on/off
  20. https://www.shuttleserviceinmelbournefl.com/ this is Melbourne Airport Express ... been around for many years operating primarily from Melb/Orlando airport .. they serve the port. newer is https://airportcanaveral.com/ UBER is usually not a problem BUT this is a small town with a port versus a big city with a port .... availability can be an issue occasionally . .
  21. I agree this seems to be seldom used and somewhat 'wasted'. Each of our VO cruises this WAS where a meet and mingle happen tho . . VO will still support these ... last July one pass' took the initiative to coordinate with VO and collected names via a roll call here . . .
  22. in other word the rental car places are pooled into one big building with a big taxi stand ..... no worries
  23. suggest taking a shuttle into Cocoa BEACH, going to Ron Jon, and checking out the pier. We really like Cocoa Beach. Cocoa is 'inland' on US-1 .... Cocoa Beach is 'beach side' as we say locally. some local geography .... >>>>>>>>>>>>> Save the Disney trip when you have more time. Seven hours isn't enough time to do anything at Disney World Disney Springs is not like going into one of the parks ... there's no <outrageous> admission fee for one thing! So question becomes is it worth the time and expense to go to what's just a themed open air shopping center. We go there for just a few hours on occasion, but in conjunction with something that took us to Orlando for other reasons and NOT a special / dedicated trip. I make NO recommendations .... just trying to give you some perspective so you can decide. Wanna try something different: https://www.spacecoastslingshot.com/
  24. what a cruise line charges varies by line ... ~$50 is common . . As others have said UBER is an option (as is a taxi) but an UBER will run $70 or more .....<UBER can be cheaper for 2 or 3 or 4 traveling together as the price is per vehicle, not per person> there are a BUNCH of 'third party' SHARED shuttles that serve the MCO / PC route like https://cbshuttle.com/port-canaveral/ just google it NOT A RECOMMENDATION only an example
