  1. @Von & John I don't know....I might send DH out to the fancy butcher place. Though you have to call in and can't go in and select your own. They wrap your order and bring it to you car. Not such a big deal if you get a disappointing piece as they are great about refunds.

I have one of those. I'm told it's to sharpen the knives....don't hold me to that - I've never used mine! Ha Ha

Yes, that's a knife sharpening steel. I have one that's older than I am that my Grandfather used. You can probably find a demo on YouTube. If you decide to try it go slowly! Folks do it really fast which looks cool and all but is a good way to cut yourself if you are a novice. I use mine fairly regularly but still am not that fast.

deedle....that so would have been me if I hadn't decided about 5 mos. ago to stop coloring my hair, and "go natural".

Me too! And I decided to grow out my bangs. It has been long enough that the roots are starting to look intentional!

  4. I know exactly what I want for dinner when I get released.....we have a bottle of red from Coppala's director's cut range. With that I want to pop a nice ribeye into the sous vide until it is perfect medium rare then hit it with the big torch to get a nice crust. Probably sauteed spinach or some asparagus...a good baguette.

  5. oh man @sid_9169 you are killing me! Tonight was the first meal fail here in solitary. They delivered baked beans and pulled pork....the beans were not Houston's and the pork was not from your crock pot!  Fortunately I have a full kitchen and a frozen pizza....no wine though. Have a sip for me!

Our bathroom reno will cost us $3500.00, $7500.00 less than Gregg's original estimate!!  We have to bite the bullet and do this.  He will start Thursday with an ETA of Sunday??  Our weather tomorrow is looking a bit dicey.  So..... barring tornado's or flooding, we should be be good.  Thanks for all the well wishes and welcome Marlene!!

So glad to hear it came in well under the "drama pricing"! Are you going to change it up at all? New fixtures?

My husband is absolutely chomping at the bit to renovate something in the house. Curse you semi-retirement! *shakesfistatsky* I have been forbidding any such madness because I cannot handle the extra drama. Our last talk was him wanting to paint the living room....while I was working from home....in the living room. I had to use small words for him to get why that was less than ideal even if he "did everything". We are also wanting to replace our couch and love seat. It makes no sense at all to me to paint the living room, then shop for furniture. Either you end up limiting your choices trying to match the couch to the newly painted walls. Or you end up repainting to match the new couch.

Anyone want to bet that I come home to a repainted living room?😂

So the replacing of the stall shower has now grown into a 100% bathroom reno.  The floor under the shower collapsed, there was a small leak that rotted away the joists holding the sub-floor.  This is translated from my husband screaming many expletives to include eff me and we're screwed.  Finally was able to get a contractor in to price the job.  And we wait.

I know that feeling! We live in a very old house and the previous owner fancied himself a home repair pro. Narrator Voice: He was not.  Just about any small fix ends up being a major project....and DH has a similar freak out....immediately declares it will cost at least $5000 to repair. Fortunately it generally costs a great deal less than that. But the stress and drama is horrid.

  8. UGH. My friend from NJ was on the mend, got back a negative test. Went for her second one last week (you need 2 negatives to be clear, I believe)? On Thursday she got a fever again. Friday the breathing problems returned. Saturday the irregular heartbeat. She was admitted back into hospital Saturday and released this morning. Second test came back positive. Poor thing can't catch a break. She is into 5 weeks now of battling this thing!

Ugh I’m so sorry! Sending her tons of good vibes!

  9. Hello from my new solitary home for the next 2 weeks! It actually isn’t bad. More like a small one bedroom apartment. And I have a balcony!
Yesterday was a rough day in our neighborhood. Our neighbor’s wife passed at home. I’ve only met her once in 19 years living there because she’s always had health issue. This stirred things up for my husband as he lost his first wife. There’s some PTSD there and I wasn’t happy to leave him this afternoon. Selfish I know to be thinking so much about how my husband was effected rather than the lady who lost her life and her family.

I would HATE that! You can't sneak in a bottle of wine or whatever for end of day pre-bed?

Haha only if I want to get fired unfortunately.

Maybe this will lead to a little weight loss? It definitely won't lead to some sort of epiphany and turning to a life of clean living hahaha

Okay so I have a robin question.  The nest seems to be complete. But no one is hanging out in it so I'm guessing no eggs yet.  What's the deal?

Sometimes they build a nest then change their minds about the location....fickle buggers!

  13. Score! I found disinfectant spray today on an early morning (pre-coffee!) foraging mission!

I also found a good size pack of our preferred brand of TP. Trying to get DH well set up for my departure.

And I found some moral boosting half price Easter candy but managed to talk myself down to 2 bags of Reece's PB eggs. I figure that being stuck in a hotel room with several bags of Cadbury mini-eggs would mean a need for new clothes. 😂

Best of luck to you and all those involved.  You have a very positive outlook on what I would be dreading.  Good thoughts for a painless upcoming month!

Oh I'm totally dreading it but since I am effectively in their chain of command I have to model a good attitude....I'm just practicing that on y'all! LOL

  15. Hahaha meantime my other big quest is securing a can of Lysol Spray!

I found 2 cans of wipes in the back of my cupboard and DH found one shopping yesterday so we are set there even if I take a couple with me.

The spray is to sanitize the materials I use for a group activity. The parts wouldn't stand up to Clorox wipes.

If I can't find it I will just steal the partial can I have at home.....I don't think DH will be spraying anything while I am away. LOL

    Fingers crossed.

Hope it all goes well and time flies for you.  When is D-day?  Sorry if asked and answered.

Monday is the projected date....if its much later we run the risk of running up too close to the start date of the next class.

  17. Preparing and counting down for the big lock in. Yesterday I hemmed a pair of work pants that have been on "The Chair" in my bed room for 2 months. This gives me a week of work pants before I need laundry.....2 if I don't spill anything and I can get a second wearing out of them. We have laundry facilities at the Academy but there will be about 40+ of us so I'm not sure how often it will be my turn. Made a master list. Secured a 4 cup coffee maker just in case the hotel we are in has inadequate in room coffee making. "Room service" is going to be our kitchen at the Academy making 3 meals a day, sealing them in individual trays, and we get to reheat them in our rooms. Our food usually ranges from pretty good to delish with a few clickers. However this set up doesn't seem ideal for high culinary standards!

Today I'm going to pack up the 25 days of clothes and supplies I will need when we return the building after our quarantine. I have quarters anyway which I "share" with my boss. We are never there on the same night in normal times. So she is moving to a room on 3rd deck so we will still be friends when this is over. 😂 This effectively gives me a mini-suite with the bathroom down the hall. Planning on taking a couple of folding chairs and making a sitting room.

Hopefully today we will learn where our quarantine is going to be held so I can do a little snooping to see what kind of kitchen facilities we will have in our rooms. It seems like I might need to procure a cheap toaster as well. I can live for a really long time on toast if jam, cheese, and fruit are available! And of course coffee. Several of us are "joking" about cocktails while we are at the hotel....we will see what falls into my luggage.
