  1. One additional note: our first time on QM2, we bought that package. My only regret was and is the plush robe. It is SO plush that two of them practically filled one of our cases. They are too much to use at home even in snowy Syracuse.
  2. My needs are simple: I NEED them to replace the nasty, clingy shower curtains in the rowers’ quarters with doors before we board again a few weeks after refurbishment.
  3. The “problem” with that, Port Royal, is that once one DOES try Cunard, esp QM2, other lines no longer exist (at least for us).
  4. It’s reasonable to note that we don’t have to dress to the minimum. That realization makes it all easy.
  5. Reading these threads always makes me think the same thing: if men knew how fabulous they look in a tuxedo (AKA dinner jacket, etc), they’d all be wearing one at every opportunity! Of course, I speak only for my own taste. You’ll all be lovely in whatever iteration of more formal dress you choose.
  6. That’s what we do, simply because people tend to camp out at tables, reading or whatever, in the pub so it can be nearly impossible to get a table after the first day, in our experience.
  7. Techteach, I am in the camp with you of no heads, please. Years ago, we were travelling through the Cotswolds and stopped for lunch at a beautiful little cafe. I ordered a salad that featured very large prawns (is that redundant?). When it arrived, there were two heads with eyeballs looking right at me. I shrieked (quietly, I must say, but cue the Ugly American music), and the server took the plate to the kitchen to have the prawns beheaded for me. So, you are not alone, though I don’t think I would have that strong a reaction now.
  8. Ñor was it a problem for my husband on QE or QM2. He did bring an extension cord, which is allowed IFF it isn’t a circuit breaker type,
  9. Marketing. All of it…nothing unusual .
  10. We prefer to make every night a gala night! (At least in terms of what we can control.) but I agree it’s too bad to be cutting back. As I recall, on our roundtrip TA in 2019, we had 6 in the 14 nights. This December, there will be only 2 in a westward crossing of 7 nights.
  11. Seems unlikely, but such snickering says WAY more about the snickerer than about the snickeree.
  12. Well, that’s a kind thought (though unlikely to happen!). 😏
  13. Anyone know whether rowers can request a pod machine and get it? (We could forgo the mess of room service if we could have adequate coffee in the cabin first thing, but after getting used to Nespresso at home, instant doesn’t work.)
  14. Yes. We will never be widely known, but I post absolutely nothing online about our absences.
  15. Last October, we found the main dining room offerings to range from good to excellent. I would be shocked to receive either of the dishes you mention. The special Lido evening’s food was also excellent, as was the Verandah’s. But on gala nights, the main room’s dishes were as good as those. (and we ARE a bit food snobby, having reviewed restaurants for our paper for over seven years.)
  16. One of the things we love about lower balconies is the SILENCE at night, indeed at most times. Well worth whatever we pay for the luxury.
  17. We did a round trip TA in December the year before things shut down, and I would absolutely recommend it. I LOVE the ocean…grew up on the beach, and being able to see and feel it for two weeks was wonderful, especially on the lower decks where the waves would occasionally splash up the windows. The Christmas decor was completed while we were on board. It was delightful. I cannot really speak to the nationalities of the passengers. We were aware of lots of Brits, which suited us just fine as we used to travel to the UK regularly before our son went and had a family and career in France. I cannot speak to any comparison to other times, either since we sailed on the QE elsewhere. But we enjoyed our time on the TA so much that we are booked for the westbound from Dec. 15-22 again this year. (I just noticed your location. Our son did his undergrad at Tulane, beginning two days before Katrina.)
  18. Yes. We’re in the US, and we mail our paperwork to the California address. No problems.
  19. I doubt it. They make plenty on what we pay, and eliminating the benefit would likely cause the price per share to drop even lower.
  20. We use Chase Sapphire Reserve. It has a substantial fee, but we get over half of it back almost immediately, and we’ve found the benefits easy to use.
  21. Speaking of differing views, I would be seriously creeped out by having a butler hanging around…one of the reasons I’m happy as a rower.
  22. Yes. Easy-Peasy. But do take printed proof.
  23. Nothing helpful to add, but blue marble I have to applaud and adopt the designation “rowers”!
  24. We love using a TA to get to…and even better FROM the other side of the ocean to be with our son and his family in France. Therefore, sheltered is the way to go for us for all the reasons others have noted. Our next voyage is westward TA after visiting England in December, and the North Atlantic in December makes a sheltered balcony a near necessity.
