  1. enjrjones. your post is kind of like an oxymoron! how can i possibly stick with you, if i dont / wont talk to anybody? while i appreciate your good intentions, there is no way, or any amount of liquor that will get me to sing along! LOL if we're ever onthe same cruise, i might invite you for a beer or a scotch, but that would probably be the extent. certainly nothing personal, that's just me sorry, im just not social of a being
  2. we were on the star this past april for a 17 day rio to lisbon. we've been on the star before, and on most of the ncl fleet, except the newer vessels. i can honestly say, the food (no matter where we ate) was just ok and best, and usually disappointing, although my wife loved the rib eye at cagneys went to lunch at the mdr one afternoon, ordered a monte cristo sandwich, grilled cheese, ham and turkey. Sounds good, huh, i asked them to hold the ham, as im not a great fan of ham. so when they brought the sandwich, all it was was a simple grilled cheese sandwich, no meat. we also had dinner one night at mdr, and i ordered the new york strip steak (had it before and it wasnt bad) order it medium. got back a really thin piece of char-broiled shoe leather. frustrated, i didnt even bother to have them re-do it. also, again in my opinion only, moderno has a top-notch salad bar, however the waiters dont seem to come around as often as in the past, and with not nearly as many meat choices as shown. again, these are my personal observations, and no designed to influence others , pro or con
  3. scubadoc i will be the 1st to admit that if you look up anti-social in the dictionary, you will see my picture i have been known to sit at teppanyaki, and never once say anything to the people next to me. i came for the food, not to make life-long friends, so dont worry about it, it's like sitting in a sushi bar. you dont need to talk to anyone else other than your dinner partner. on the downside, teppanyaki used to offer filet mignon as one of the choices, much like the edsel, this choice has gone by the wayside. in it's place, they offer (among other choices) ny strip steak, You can get this at the mdr also and not have to pay. by the way, after as many times as i have eaten in teppanyaki, or benihana's in the states, or any similar restaurant, i have learned to completely tune out the show. i dont want to sing along, i dont want to try and have the chef toss a piece of the egg into my mouth, im just sitting there for the style of the restaurant. we have been on almost 30 ncl cruises since 2010 and IMHO, the quality of food in teppanyaki, and moderno has gone way,way down. never cared much for la cucina, (kind of like olive garden, but without the unlimited soup, salad or breadsticks). most of the time we are more than happy (satisfied) with both cagney's and le bistro
  4. all 3 of you are incorrect, if she doesnt see them, i'm dead meat (LOL)
  5. on the other hand, i have never gone to a show (including jersey boys) on any ncl ship, where there were no seats available for walk in.by the way, we were on the bliss 2 years ago, and walked out of jersey boys. it's almost a carbon copy of the movie, and frankie valli he aint.
  6. lottieET at any point on this cruise, were you able to observe the northern lights? we're booked on the sept 26th prima, reykjavick to southampton. my wife's bucket list is to view the lights. so i booked this sailing for her. if she doesnt see them in either iceland or norway, i'm doomed!
  7. i believe that bowser is still alive and kicking. he is a major advocate of all the oldies groups members be legit, and not just use the group name. kind of tough when a number if these singers are late 70's +, and a bunch are dead. he is totally against groups that have "0" connection with an oldies group but still appear under that name. by the way (if you dont know) the name sha na na came from a doo wopp lyric. while they were a good group, they were kind of made up, like the monkees! rydell high forever hey, chiefjrk mate, where you hidin out these days? havent read anything from you for a while. are you locked in steerage?
  8. no problem, not to worry, ncl would probably prefer the passport as id bon voyage
  9. www3traveler. since the ncl policy is "no door decorations" asking guest services will probably end up to be a futile effort. as my sainted grandma once said " it's always better to ask for forgiveness than permission"
  10. yep, sorry, but mexico fits as 3rd world
  11. njhorseman, you either misread, or misunderstood my post. on ships that have both haven suites, and suites , or just suites, (ie the ncl star) if you are not in a haven suite, or there is no haven suite, breakfast is offered to those passengers in moderno. since the breakaway has no "suite" category, those booked in the "haven" will dine in the haven restaurant. again, if your choices on the specific ncl ship is either the haven complex suites, or the category suite, if you book the "suite" you dont get into the haven complex. for any readers, unfamiliar with the ncl cabin categories, none o f this applies if you book a club balcony suite. while you may get some goodies, you dont get the butler, concierge, etc. again, i was only referring to booking a "suite" category, not the haven category comprende senor?
  12. we were on the 17 day star last april, and although in theory ncl frowns upon door decorations, there were loads of them and one one removed them the entire sailing
  13. by the way, barb nahoumi, i think my idea for an oldies/doo wopp cruise has been kicked to the curb, people seem to prefer schmoopie's idea
  14. njhorseman. there are also some ncl ships that have both haven and non haven suites. the non haven suites are about 2-3,000 cheaper. the only difference is that on ships with the true "haven complex" if you book a suite, the rooms and perks are identical, you just dont get access to the haven lounge, bar, pool or restaurant. if you book on an ncl ship with both choices, the suite will have breakfast in moderno and lunch in cagneys. if the ship doesnt have a haven complex per se, you will be escorted to cagney's for lunch upon embarkation, and breakfast is available every morning (*with lox and cream cheese) in modernos. given the choice, i will forgo the haven complex extras, and book a "suite" still offers the butler, concierge, etc. and the rooms are identical. that being said, however, wife and i threw caution to the wind and booked a 2 bedroom haven villa on the prima this sept 26th. if you (or anyone) have any interest, i'll comment on this cruise when we get home oct 7th as an aside, cruiseny4life, ncl does not scrimp on the cream cheese
  15. njhorseman. problem is, it's easier said then done. one can never be certain of what ports will be safe at any given time, unless you think like engrjones and only choose alaska or hawaii. like i said before, some moron in key west wanted to fight me because i was on his "turf" i was on the sidewalk in front of starbucks, waiting for my wife and her sister to get a cup of coffee so, one never knows. meanwhile, i never book a cruise out of safety concerns. for me it's price and itinerary, and i'm all set to go. we're on the prima from iceland to southampton this sept, and we're looking at the 21 day sky, lisbon to capetown in nov, or even buenas aries to falkland islands in jan. "sail on, sail on sailor"
  16. if you book a suite, breakfast is always in moderno. they have a small buffet set aside, as well as the regular menu. the buffet has lox, cream , tomato and onions available. the waiter can bring you an entire bagel, toasted or otherwise.
  17. hey bird, i'd try and avoid florida, regardless of the shootings. in today's world, unfortunately, the news of shootings and violence anywhere has unfortunately become almost common place. i had my cell phone stolen in a brazilian port, my wife had hers pick pocketed in barcelona. some jerk wanted to pick a fight with me in key west, because i was standing near where he was trying to sell his ridiculous woven grass hats. havent been there in a few years, but i always loved cozumel, and made sure i took the tour to the ruins in tulum. people now go missing all over the world, never to be seen or heard from again. if i'm not getting off at a designated port, it's only because of lack of interest, not fear of danger. if you're going to be worried, may as well stay locked up in your own home. if you've booked/paid for a cruise, go, sail, and most of all enjoy
  18. i would also like to point out to evag, that since the suites are sold out, the upper category cabins still available are balconies. i did mock booking, and a balcony cabin for 2 with all the goodies offered and the regular cruise insurance is approximately $8600. (slightly less however) + DSC which would total $400. total cost o f this sailing is $9,000 + whatever else you decide to purchase. obviously, if you wish to stay in an oceanview or inside cabin, the costs goes down considerably. $900 per person per cruise/$450 day. Currently, that's probably about the same price as a week in disneyworld in one of their less expensive hotels. 10 day cruise, since all food and beverages are included in that price, i dont think in total, that's a bad deal unless you plan to spurge onboard. also, (and this is a personal preference) when we took this cruise last year, we hired a cab at each port, 1/2 the cost of the ncl shore excursions, always got back to the ship in plenty of time, we always showed the driver the shore excursion notes from the ship, he took us wherever we wanted to go, stayed as long or as short as we wanted, and we were on our way again. by the way, the ports listed are all amazing, beautiful, and imo a must see. unfortunately we missed berlin, as the announcement was made that the weather precluded us docking there. oddly enough, we were blown away by gdansk. never expected a city to be that beautiful. also, we tried to bribe the driver into going to st petersberg, no such luck (LOL)
  19. price, like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. we did a b2b last year, southampton to copenhagen, copenhagen to stockholm, with stops in estonia. lithuania. latvia, gdansk, helsinki, etc. 3 people, 2 bedroom suite, at what i thought was a reasonable price. (dont ask, i dont remember) that being said, however what specific cruise/ date/ ship are your referring to?
  20. if you live on the east coast of the united states, you can check in on your computer roughly a few minutes after midnight. if you live on the west coast, a few minutes after 9 p.m. these times are only available at least 21 days prior to sailing, or anytime after.Once you have accomplished this monumental task, your docs should be ready to print within 24 hours after.
  21. hey cato v11. im not sure what you're really asking about but, the haven perks are the haven perks , regardless of the haven cabin (unless you're in the owners suite, or deluxe owners suite,) where i understand you get 3 bottles of free alcohol. if there is an actual "haven complex, you get the use of the lounge, pool area, bar and restaurant. if there is no complex per se, you get breakfast in moderno/lunch in cagneys. also, with the concierge, you may be able to get into specialty restaurants that might be listed as sold out, and the butler brings snacks/goodies in the afternoon, and will do anything requested (within reason) . all other perks are the same, butler, concierge, priority boarding, priority tenders, priority seating in the stardust theater, regardless of haven category cabin. other than the above-named food options, the drink/food options are the same regardless of whether or not you're in a haven. they're similar to what is offered to everyone else. Depends on what price you're willing to spend. consequently, what so called "perks" do you think a penthouse balcony suite is entitled to receive? in theory. you just get a nicer/upscale sailing experience. think economy vs 1st class air travel
