  1. hey good buddy, my wife and i do this a lot. but regardless, no one ever looks on the ticket when you get on the tour bus. you love ncl as much as i do, and know that as long as they get their $$$ they're happier than a pig in whatever. so it rea ly isnt necessary to swap names, just buy t he ticket and happily go on the tour
  2. you can also call the stateside concierge number ( i find that whenever we're in a haven about 2-3 weeks prior to sailing, they call us and ask for any special requests. just give them your reservation number and i'm sure they'll be more than happy/willing to send out the updated tags. by the way, weren't the pretentious twits part of the british invasion of the 60's. i think i still have one of there albums (lol)
  3. just remember, whatever bid you place gets multiplied X2
  4. yes. if youre in a haven, you get the haven perks.
  5. dear travelguy!. we've been on most of the ncl fleet in the last 13 years. 24 cruises and counting. we've been on the epic twice. i've posted my opinion(s) re. this ship at another CC post. once again, i find the epic is no better or worse than other ships in the ncl fleet. sure, it may not have all the bells and whistles of their newer ships, but as ive said before, "personally scarlet i could give a d**m. i'm 75 years old im not water sliding, go-karting, excessively drinking, etc. i enjoy cagney's, moderno, teppanyaki. ive never met an ncl employee who was not less than curteous, helpful, and hardworking im on cruise to enjoy the mere fact of being on a cruise. your post suggest that some people will never be happy, satisfied, regardless of the conditions. please remember that you have a 1st world problem. cant you just enjoy being on a cruise and sailing to exotic places? not all of them will be 100% attractive or interesting, but we've been in some absolutely amazing ports, from hong kong to hamburg, copenhagan to curacao, etc. by they way so no one posts about no cruises from these ports, im merely quoting the places we've been to with ncl. so, travel guy, i'm certain this post will not change your perspective. but i'm sure ncl will survive in it's entirety, if you take a break and cruise with another line. my wife and i however will continue to cruise (happily) with ncl. FYI, we're currently booked on back to back from london to copenhagen, compenhagen to stockholm july 27th thru aug 15 on the dawn, and a 21 day cruise from capetown to barcelona next march also on the dawn. if somethjing comes up interesting on the epic, we would not hesitate to book that ship once again. so,as the immortal sly stone once said "different strokes etc"
  6. been on the epic twice, both times in a haven suite. 1st was aft. youre right, the cabin layout is a major pain in the a**. the circular bed takes up almost the entire cabin, and you have to sit down to let the other person pass. the bathroom layout is a joke. and whoever designed these cabins should be whipped with a wet noodle. other than that, i disagree with everything that has been negatively posted about the epic. the 2nd time we took our grandson and his friend on a 10 day from hamburg. we had the 2 bedroom suite, the boys had a fantastic time, we hardly saw them, they were so wrapped up with other teens they met, the ports were interesting, and a 2 bedroom haven suite speaks for itself. consequently, other than my ongoing gripe about soggy hamburger buns, i have no problems sailing with/on the epic again. whoever is contemplating booking on the epic, it aint as bad as some people have made it sound, i'm sure you will enjoy the entire experience, and since we've been on almost the entire ncl fleet, i can say without a shadow of a doubt, the epic is no better or worse than any other ship in the ncl fleet, other than the getaway, which is in an amazing class of its own, and far and away our favorite
  7. what my wife and i have learned, in 24 cruises with ncl, ( we were on the bliss last july. hellova ship), is to just cruise for the shear joy of cruising. if there are 2100 kids on board so be it. i escape to my balcony, get a cold beer and read my kindle. by the way, regardless of the amount of fellow passengers, if you book a haven or a suite, you can escape from the hustle and bustle even easier. ive always maintained that we choose ncl, because it gives us the best bang for our buck, both pricewise and with their multi-varied itinerary. i'm 75 years old, and have been with ncl to places i never thought i'd see in my life. sure other lines may go to the same ports, but i seem to be most comfortable with norwegian. i have almost 2600 posts on this site, and in the past have indicated numerous times, once on board, my needs are few and far between. a number of their shows dont interest me, i dont stay up very late anymore, so i dont bar hop. the drink package in and of itself allows me to drink more than i should or normally would. im on vacation, and there is no one at home i need to speak to, so the wi-fi is irrelevant for meet, we usually hire a cab so i rarely book an ncl shore excursion. so, at the end of the day, im very happy just to be able to relax on a cruise ship and watch the world go by. again, after all is said and done, regardless on little annoyances, my long lasting and on going complaint is the sogginess of the hamburger buns. If that's all i can b***h about, i figure i'm still batting 1000
  8. also, its probably a great deal easier (for everyone concerned) including you, your partner, mil, crew, etc, if you all check in together, if not, make sure your mil has her own set of cruise docs
  9. flaham: that's probably while they fall apart so quickly. we've sailed on most of the ncl fleet, and i find this an across the board problem. LOL* * and talk about getting off topic!!
  10. for what it's worth, we're booked on what i believe is a similar itinerary at the end of this july . it leaves from southampton and ends up in copenhagen. got a pretty decent airfare on british airways also why dont you try and give this one a look
  11. chiefmatejrk. as always, thanks for your post. i was beginning to think that i was the only one that got my posts censored or deleted. on top of everything else, it's very nice to know we also have this in common. have you noticed that whenever cc deletes a post, they never tell you exactly why. at the end of last year (2022) they banned me entirely for 4 days, again with no specific explanation. i feel bad that some posters are so thin-skinned as to not like what another's response might me.
  12. question is "how much did it cost you in bids, as opposed to the actual cost of this cabin"
  13. amygutman: lol... thank you. I'm glad you got a giggle out of my post. seriously, though, who can plan that far ahead?
  14. we were on the star last oct to nov. i was informed we were the last cruise before the star went into dry dock i believe Nov 15 or thereabouts. it was for 3 weeks in marseilles. consequently, i dont think another refurbishment is due for a while.
  15. julig22. if you will note, anyone else in your cabin has to pay. of course if you want to take the absolute cheapest excursion available, and it's $50 or less, ok, i concede it will in fact be free. that being said however, what you have shown is the exception rather than the rule. how many different excursions are really that cheap? we're sailing in the dawn this august, and check the prices for the tours to berlin. any of those, and although $50 off, is better than a stick in the eye, if you're looking at an excursion like this, it's a mere drop in the bucket.
  16. contingent on what you think is fair, and how often/much you utilize his/her services. i usually go at least $150
  17. laszlo. answer is simple, if you think the new york itineraries stink, simply book from another port and a different itinerary. im sure some people would find a cruise like this relaxing, with no need to get off the ship. sometimes its nice to just chill. with all the ships, dates and itineraries available though ncl, just to single out one because it doesn't specifically suit you (IMHO) is bi****ng just to b***h. for 13 years of cruising with ncl, and over 20 cruises with them, my only real consistent complaint (as i've stated in the past) is that their hamburger buns fall apart before im done with the burger. other than that to me the rest is all small stuff, and a wise man once told me "don't sweat the small stuff" if i have to sit through 20 minutes of boredom to listen to a muster, i've wasted more than 20 minutes before, and i have all the rest of the cruise to look forward to. so i can spare the time it takes for the muster. i'm more concerned as to how ncl advertises it's so called sales. if anything they should be called out about that, especially since there are no free shore excursions other than the hassle of getting to/around new york, i would take this cruise just to relax. im not knocking you or trying to put you down, but with people like you ncl cant win. they're da***d if they do and da***d if they dont
  18. just remember the old adage "if it sounds to good to be true...etc." the standard fas drink package is great if you want to indulge. i find myself drinking more than i normally would, as i dont have to pay for each drink. on the other had, if you check out the total costs when you look at the booking, ncl has tacked on the gratuities, usually a a few hundred dollars. and any drink over $15 you pay the difference and the tax, and both people in the cabin MUSt take the package. So if one you isnt a drinker, you're pretty much scr***d the free excursions, are the biggest crock. they take $50 off the trip for the first person listed on the reservation. dont really use the wi-fi (im on vacation) so i cant comment, but as soon as we get onboard my wife heads down to the IT desk and pays a few extra hundreds to upgrade. you get minimal 2 dinners in specialty restaurants. we've taken 10-14 day cruises and only received the 2. if you check some of these posts, they are filled with horror about flights booked by ncl. yes, the 2nd person flies free, but you have no control over the flight, seat, time, day or whatever. ncl takes no responsibility if something goes wrong on the flight. better to err on the side of caution and do all the airline bookings yourself by the way, im not bad mouthing ncl. we've taken over 20 cruises with them, sine 2010. all i'm trying to tell you is to take these offers with a grain of salt. ncl doesnt give away ice cubes in winter, to be forewarned is to be forearmed!!!
  19. im 75 and i dont want to plan that far ahead.i dont even buy green bananas. we live in los angeles, but i guess we should be living in florida. LOL we're booked on the dawn march 2024 and keeping my fingers crossed
  20. if i was any more mellowed out, i'd be in a coma. i understand your stance, i was merely commenting n your attack on rocketman. he too has a stance and opinion
