The complimentary ones they sometimes give in MDR are not the same as the $25 chocolate cake which was delivered to my cabin from my family.  I have not had the complimentary MDR cake so I have no idea if it is good, not so good or awful.  All I can tell you is the paid for cake was awesome.

Did you have one of the ones pictured above?

It $66.50 CAD from the website today , ( it was $23.xx CAD on sale day ) so it is us Canadians getting screwed over if it only $60.28 AUD

And that is a huge part of why so many didn’t realize this was an error. So many posts suggesting anyone who didn’t know the price was wrong was not that bright, but lots of people saw it as the usual random, non-sensical pricing RCL always has.  The pricing above is exactly why so few cruisers thought “well now that I just odd!” seeing a wild fluctuation on a single day 🤨

@Judyrem  ooooh impressive, 2?! I did one really long one, when I am wound up a dissertation is the result 😂 I wasn’t aggressive, just explained how people might view this and why and also why in the short run they may save money by cancelling the packages but in the long run shoot themselves in the foot!   FYI - I think we need an ATL cruising club (a.k.a. support group?! 🙄

  3. @jbethel11  I too hope it was edible if you ate it! 🤣 but those two top ones always looked odd to be as they seemed “wrapped” in something?! Maybe that is why!

@marci22 I think you ruled out the bottom one he got that was delicious - thanks!

@CapeGal that sounds lovely! But I wonder if they use that for anniversaries since is sounds almost like a miniature wedding cake. I do wish you had a photo. Did it taste as good as it looked.

I cannot seem to find any pictures of the cake itself for you all to see vicariously. However, I can embed an image in your mind through taste!

    Yay! 1111 posts, lol.

Here are the ones they have for sale now - does one look familiar?

The very small one below is apparently one they offer in the dining room (possibly free of charge?) -

They are? I looked online and they said they sell them for $25 on RCI's website!

That is what I understood too, that there is a cost. But you’ve convinced me, I will definitely get him one! The only downside is his birthday is the day before we disembark, which doesn’t give us a whole lot of time to eat a cake. You need to join us on the cruise and help us eat it 🍴🍰

This is on Deck 7 on Grandeur of the Seas; the area forward of the exterior cabins showing having a balcony aren't on normal deck plans and is a crew area; being the deck under the bridge I suspect this is where the Captain's cabin is located, since there's no non-passenger area behind the bridge on Deck 8.

That makes sense - I know that right above that area is a short set off hallway on each aide that has two owner’s suites and a royal suite and then some “dead space” between and all the way forward. Interesting!

Since John is a Cruise Director he and Katrina share a nice cabin suitable for his position. I know several married ships crew  and their cabins are the same as those shared by 2 unmarried crew members,

I was just thinking since RCL was saving money they could throw in an extra something for the couples 😊 of course I am teasing about all of this, but it seems worth a negotiation!

Concierges are Guest Services employees who have the same rank as other Guest Services desk workers. So no surprise that they would be sharing a cabin. I have been in the Hotel Director's quarters on Enchantment and found it quite nicely set up much like a shore-side apartment.

I still found it a bit sad - I cannot imagine sharing such close quarters after the age of say 30! I realize many on the ship do, but since I know many of the concierge’s on a different level it just seemed different.  I wonder if the couples like John and Katrina on the Grandeur get a benefit or loss by being a married couple in terms of living quarters?

"Taking some time to rethink things". The legal department must be busy right now :classic_biggrin:

NO doubt! 🤓 I emailed Mr. MB, a long email trying to use psychological reasoning (heck, it was a free consult, I hope he listened) and then went to Twitter and boy was the latter already full of commentary.  While I have no doubt my email went into a giant ignored pile, I did try to point out in it that their accounting could not show the hit to a reputation and the change in loyalty from cruisers, both of which I personally believe would likely have far bigger negative consequences over time. Some have said it won’t ruin the company and it won’t, but it surely can affect the profits in the long run.  Glad at least they are making noises about listening 🙂👏🏻

@grandgeezer  why so negative about people expressing their thoughts and feelings? People do have a right to feel irritated, even if you do not feel the same. I don’t think it’s necessary to assume there is only 1 correct thought on the issue.  We are all intelligent enough to understand that the RCL contract covers every possible “out” for the company; the feelings of many here relate to what is fair and ethical, not to whether they have a “right” to cancel the packages. Happy sailing 🙂

Oh. Whoever bakes them/came up with the recipe deserves a raise!

Glad to hear it was good! My husband will celebrate a milestone birthday on the Adventure in November and I was really on the fence about whether to do the room/cake combo, a cake alone, the big cupcakes, or beg at the MDR! 🙂

@Seville2Cabo  next time try the red velvet if they have it. Best I have ever had (whipped not overly sweet, thick icing). We ate their a 2nd night just for that cake 😂

I contacted m bayley. See attached non committal letter below. But reading between the lines, it is a glitch, and correct prices are showing now

I believe it is important to speak up in a situation where you feel cheated or otherwise wronged. Maybe those aren’t the best choice of terms, I just finished a long day at work and I’m tired, but I do think it’s essential to speak up or no one will either know or care what you think. I’m glad you emailed and appreciate your sharing the response . I wrote as well. It may not matter but at least we spoke up.

The second screen shot is of my conversation with Royal, trying to get clarification.  You can see that they said the rate would be honored but then that same person reached out to me later and apologized saying it would now not be honored.  That's what irritated me, the backtracking.  But oh well, still cruisin'!

Yes! I remember much earlier on the thread someone posting the initial question. I also find it irritating the refusal to do what similar companies have done; just own up to your mistake and deal with it.  It is laughable to think that this would have any real negative financial impact on them, they probably made a lot more money than they would’ve made otherwise since they had people like me buy it and we never would have otherwise!

I am not quite sure why people in here today are generally irritable though, although not far from how it usually is I suppose - some people are on perpetual attack mode 🐅

I have to get back to work, no more time for posting. But time will tell either way. But it’s been a weird episode for sure!

When the alcohol package is less than the non-alcohol one, it should be a sign that something is wrong.  The cabana for $1,300 is accurate.  Ones we booked for $500 a long time ago are now available for close to that price.

All that being said, it is another sign that RC needs to hire better qualified IT staff to run their systems. They seem to be having different IT issues too frequently.

Edit to add:  RC’s pricing and fake sales are all so common how does anyone ever know if it really is or not.🤔

    And @shelldigity

Exactly. People think differently - I’m sure there are some people that thought immediately it was a mistake, but there were also intelligent and frequent cruisers who did not see it as a mistake but as one of Royals wild price fluctuations. It would not be accurate to say that everyone should have known it was a mistake, particularly when it was up there for quite a long time unchanged. And to those feeling sorry for royal, I am having a hard time mustering up pity – I feel sorry for the person who made the mistake (if it was a mistake), but in a fight between David and Goliath I have to stand with for David.

I also had a back/forth for the first 15 mins on whether I should purchase or not. My wife drinks very little alcohol and we have plenty of wine in the cabin with the bottles brought on and all the bottles Royal sends to the cabin.

But with the bottle waters, coffees, non alcohol frozen drinks for the wife, soda, Bloody Mary's in the mornings, and my night caps after the diamond happy hours, I felt it was definitely worth it on the TransAtlantic.

‘We are in the same situation! We never buy any package - we drink very little, we can get free drinks in the suite’s lounge if we want them,  I don’t really drink soda although DH likes a couple of sodas each day. So we were also  hesitant to buy even at this price (since RCL will likely still profit on us at this level 😂).. But when a fellow cruiser emailed me about the price on a shared voyage in 2020, we decided to get it. And he actually did not assume it was a mistake but one of the more bizarre examples of rcl’s dynamic pricing!

Not the same thing. You agreed to a contract stipulation at time if booking. You don’t do that when you buy a bottle of Peanut Butter in a store that was priced wrong.

i tried to be clear to say I wasn’t referring to what is legal, I was referring to what is fair. The airlines usually do what is fair in such cases even though they have the same kind of contract at purchase. I don’t think them changing this, given their profits, would be fair. My opinion.

  16. I’m not saying I have any deep knowledge of the law on this in any country, but my experience is that when you’re at a store and they have priced something incorrectly, they will give you the price as marked (the “wrong one”) and when there is an airline price snafu and seats are priced too low, the airline honors that (wrong) price.  I can think of very few cases where the company made the buyers “pay” for their mistake (again in my experience).

That could be because in those situations US law required this, I do not know, but beyond the legal issue is just the general requirement that they treat customers fairly. So while they may legally be able to overturn this IF it is an error, it would not be fair to their customers that they do so. Their mistake, their loss. Everyone makes mistakes, but then everyone also has to pay for their own mistakes.

see I gotta disagree.  I found  it to be way too bulky and unwieldy  to wear.  not to mention hot as Hades in the Caribbean.  I can't imagine trying to pack one neatly to take home.   I actually do prefer the thinner ones..

I think we may actually be talking about the same robe  😊 It is the thinner one that I am saying is nicer. It’s an entirely different material than that bulky ones, the terry cloth one (at least from what we have experienced there are huge, thick terry cloth ones that I said were scratchy and then there is a thinner one feels almost like a lightly quilts velour that we prefer). The ones we don’t like would be horrible to pack and very hot.  It seems to me that we actually agreed, no?

    * I assume the one they sell is the nicer one that I am saying that I like. But I haven’t ordered one so I can’t say for sure.
