OK, what was that museum about. I tried to look up phallological in the dictionary, and it was not there. If I knew any of you were looking for a museum, I would have recommended the Perclan Museum, which is a museum about Iceland's geology. DW said we are not waiting in the airport forever, so she booked for us an excursion to the airport with a stop at that museum. It was truly fascinating. Sad, we ended up with a long wait anyway at the airport as our plane was delayed 😒, but at least it was less than if we had not taken that fascinating excursion.

Some thoughts that I had overnight. One, if as the OP has said his parents were told they only needed the credit card information to have it on file as opposed to what they were going to charge on the card, this truly sounds like credit card fraud. I wonder if Canada or maybe their province has the equivalent of an Attorney General's office that would look into this. Second, I find Princess very much at fault. They have not only allowed these predatory salespeople to operate onboard, but have also let themselves call themselves Princess Promotions, letting them use their trademarked brand name to let passengers think that they are really part of Princess.

Again wishing the best of luck to your parents dealing with this. Generally credit card companies are quite willing to go to bat for their customers. And referring to your original post---I don't think any of us hold any grudge with you for not having been on a cruise. (Though why not try one, other than the fear of being hooked. 🤣) And I think it is safe to say we all respect what you are doing trying to help out your parents.

Good clarification. It applies to the cruise actally. If there was a violation the cruise line would be fined. And then they would pass the fine on to the passengers as a charge against their onboard account.

Handing over your credit card seems to be a red flag. I hope reading the original post in this thread helps prevent someone else from making the same mistake. To the OP, wishing for a good result when your parents dispute this with their credit card company. And as other have already said, have them do this as soon as possible.

This is what was done on our cruise with Iceland----Our first port was supposed to be Isafjordur, which never happened and became a sea day. There was an announcement that everyone except those who were on a back to back and had already been to Iceland had to see the immigration people on I forget which deck. Your time to see them was determined by what deck your cabin was on. When there, you showed them your passport, and it was stamped.

I would assume taking command away from the master would first be considered a mutiny, but at some point when it became obvious that the necessary procedures were not being done to ensure the safety of the passengers, the crew, and the ship, it would be seen as something that had to be done.

There really is a difference between a one time event and the area being taken over several days or nights. Plus, I remember on our first HAL cruise having our meet and greet (which I helped set up in the roll call) scheduled for the Crow's Nest and then seeing in the daily something else there scheduled at the same time. I asked at the purser's desk and was told not to worry as the Crow's Nest was large.

We did that and took the next to last train to be safe. It was nearly 100 degrees that day and the packed railroad train was even hotter and extremely uncomfortable. 😢 And it was even worse when a fight broke out on the train. 😒

The large group on our Prima cruise this past summer "spoke" sign language. They were ubiquitous, and you could not miss seeing them, but they did not at all take over anything or be inconsiderate.

And Captain Sullenberger was investigated for his actions when it was shown that computer models did a better job then he did. It was only when he pointed out that no human could possibly have as quick a reflex as a computer that the authorities conceded that he was really a hero. (Non-experts realized that much sooner.)

My question for @Heidi13 and @chengkp75 ---if there is an obvious dereliction of duty by the captain such as happened with the Costa Concordia is there any other officer who at that point can take charge and order a muster and eventually an abandon ship order?
