  1. Your deposit is 100% refundable up to 90 days before, apparently. Actually, so is the rest of the fare, for that matter, based on this schedule. https://www.ncl.com/no/en/about/cancellation-fee-schedule-mea
  2. That happened to me in 2019 - got booked on a red-eye from LA to Philly, then changed planes to get home. There were earlier flights, but policies prevented me from getting on one. Rented a car and did some sightseeing in the LA area before having dinner at the airport while waiting for boarding time.
  3. You booked and made final payment on a cruise at a price you were happy with, right? What happens with subsequent pricing should be of no concern then. Would you expect NCL to call you and ask you to pay more if the cabin price INCREASES? That's basically what you're doing to them by demanding to get the lower price. Have I been monitoring the price of the cruise I have booked? You bet! However - I booked it in late June and it's now 98 days to sailing and the price is HIGHER than I paid. I'm certainly not offering NCL any more money! As others have said - getting a re-fare is not guaranteed.
  4. This was established on the first page, in posts subsequent to the one you clicked to quote in a knee-jerk reaction rather than continuing to read the thread.
  5. They did it as recently as March. The reason for not refunding those fees, if it happens, has been explained in this forum so many times in the last few months.
  6. Thanks, but there's also something to be said about just going out to the provided link and reading the remainder of the info...
  7. It's right on the FAQ on NCL's website - https://www.ncl.com/faq#!#what-minimum-age-purchase-andor-consumption-alcoholic-beverages Edit: well, since the link doesn't work as it should - look under the Liquor and Beverage Policy item at the left... 21 minimum age on sailings from the US, 18-20 can get beer and wine only (and NO beverage package so it's a-la-carte) with a parental consent form, EXCEPT when in Alaska and Hawaii waters
  8. They could, but if the cruise is closed-loop from a US port the US government might have something to say unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances...
  9. The only line that has a reputation for reliably doing this is also the one with the MOST "solo" cabins - NCL. I've gone on several NCL cruises as a solo and had an absolute BLAST! There were some fantastic people in the solo group, whom I hung around with for much of those trips. NCL's two (3?) newest classes of ships - Breakaway, Breakaway Plus and Prima - have dedicated inside Studio cabins (86 on each of the Bliss, Encore and Escape) and lounges (except on the Joy). Plus, NCL has now recategorized over 1000 regular inside, ocean view and balcony cabins fleet-wide as 'solo' cabins.
  10. and if the first cabin was booked prior to January 1, 2023, that cabin can pre-pay the DSC at the old rate of $20 pp/pd while the second cabin pays the $25 pp/pd rate if they booked AFTER January 1, 2023. This is per the FAQ I posted above...
  11. OP stated the cruise is in January on the Jade. 2 minutes on the NCL page reveals to me that the Jade does not embark any cruises in 2024 prior to January 7.
  12. This FAQ details the DSC and the booking cut-off for each increase - https://www.ncl.com/faq#!#what-is-onboard-service-charge
  13. No it doesn't. You just have to understand that the smallest table in any of the venues (except Teppanyaki) is for 2 and it makes ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE if you were to select 1 or 2 when reserving as you're getting the same size table, or if you're in a party of 3 and book a table for 4.
  14. I'm sailing on the Norwegian Bliss January 27 to Feb 11. Based on the roll call and other social media there are A LOT of solos on this cruise...
  15. There are several threads on this already
  16. @metrygal I believe the 'cellular at sea' tower is turned off within a certain distance of shore, so you'd be fine sitting on your balcony and doing that. In fact - I stood on deck using my cellular data (mine is no extra charge in 200+ countries) as we passed an island on my last cruise, I got a good signal from the island. I have a different carrier than you do.
  17. It's a double-occupancy cabin categorized for a solo person. If you've stayed in a balcony on Epic before it's exactly the same cabin. As the article @ColeThornton linked to points out, NCL has reclassified over 1000 cabins fleet-wide to be 'solo' cabins and grant access to the Studio Lounge (on ships that have one, Epic does) for the passenger sailing in that cabin. All of the Solo Balcony rooms on deck 14 aft on the Epic seem to be across the hall from the spa and fitness center (not across from the entrance, just across from a wall that defines the space). Pick deck 14 here, the solo balcony cabins are the green ones - https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/epic/deck-plans I'd pick 14149 or 14151 if I could, they look to have bigger balconies...
  18. Don't tell some others that visit this board - they think NCL has gotten expensive, and then disappear when you make a valid comparison showing NCL's price is still better than Royal's for a similar cruise.
  19. I'd go Escape/Bliss for that. Encore is missing Spice H20, which Bliss has, in addition to the OL and (important to some) the Thermal Suite which are also present on Encore. Aside from Spice H20 the Bliss and Encore are nearly identical except for age. Both Bliss and Encore have sealed-off smoking sections in the casino, which should mitigate the smell mentioned before...
  20. I can't really add much to what the other two have said, other than to say that I liked the ship when I sailed on her in March. I thought the food was good - way better than anything I'm making for myself at home (but let's be real, that's not a very high bar!).. That class of ship has been my favorite so far, but it's also the only class I've sailed on NCL with two different ship classes sailed on Royal.
  21. Here's a thread from 2 months ago asking basically the same question - (yup, the search box on the forum DOES work, despite what some say...)
  22. Wouldn't be the first thing he didn't understand this weekend...
  23. Despite numerous news stories each time the deadline nears, warning that the travel requirements will be changing, then they push it back because people haven't had enough chance to get the right documentation. It's time they just let it happen and let the chips fall where they may, people have had PLENTY of time to get their affairs in order regarding this. Shoot - I'm on my SECOND EDL from New York (8 year renewal) and that one expires in 18 months!!
  24. You might find some info in the Alaska ports of call forum - https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/33-alaska/
  25. Except it IS international - you're leaving the country and going to the ABC Islands and the Dominican Republic. Technically, the SHIP is 'foreign' as it's registered in the Bahamas. They're not NCL's rules, they're the US Government's rules. Yes, the cruise line puts that on you to know. A lot of people are also surprised that they'll get in trouble for bringing THC products on board when embarking in a state that allows those recreationally. They try to make the same argument, that the state allows it, but the ports are governed by the Federal Government (which still outlaws it), and INTERNATIONAL maritime law (which the ships follow) doesn't allow for it either.
