  1. Juneau -musher camp or helicopter to glacier with sled dog Glacier Bay- should have a park Ranger on board with info Ketchikan-log rolling event
  2. The last helicopter tour and dog sled excursion is generally the 1st week in September and some companies end excursions in August. I originally booked our Alaska cruise for September. This was to be a surprise for my husbands birthday. He had always wanted to return and take the sled ride again. Luckily I found out early after booking that there were no excursions so I changed the booking to May.
  3. I bought an Apple 8 watch on NYE sailing on Silhouette. Only had it in red! Small face was $399 and large was, I believe $429. Hoping they will have I pads in May on Eclipse.

    Replanning Alaska

Hal is mostly older adults. Have you looked at activities for you teenagers onboard? Also, will you teenagers be content with excursions of white hair often crabby folks! 🤪I would really think this trough. You say other lines are more expensive, but I sure would not want to be on a family vacation where all or part are unhappy and miserable!

    Replanning Alaska

Years ago I had. Forward cabin. I would never book a forward cabin again. The motion in the forward cabin was horrible, it was the one and only time I ever felt sick in over 250 days at sea. Also, a friend of mind 77 who just returned from a Holland cruise said the ship was full of electric scooters. With the age of your family, I am not sure I would choose Celebrity or Holland.
  6. Thanks for the reply appreciate.
  7. We have always taken local currency, however the dollar was worth about 1/3 more than the Canadian dollar. I know on a trip some time ago Argentina folks wanted US dollars. I would really like hear from someone who is resident of Vancouver. I have no issue getting Canadian dollars. I really only will use cash for tips. We will charge everything else with a CC with no foreign currency fees.
  8. Knowing in advance the the US Dollar value currently is significantly greater than the Canadian dollar, do doormen, bellhops, tour guides, and wait staff prefer to be tipped in Canadian or US dollars? In addition, are US Dollars widely excepted in Vancouver? Thanks in advance!
  9. I”THINK” the only lines are Holland, Princess, Norwegian, and one other small one. If someone know for sure please advise!
  10. You have highlighted the difference. I would think it is still in effect, Alaska controls the ship traffic in Glacier Bay. Alaska awards this privilege to companies for 10 years. I would suggest you doing your research on Glacier Bay and see if you feel it is important to you to see. We did Princess in 2009 and sailed into Glacier Bay. This year we will do Celebrity. I choose Celebrity due to status and wanted to sail Vancouver to Vancouver. I love Vancouver it’s a beautiful city. Whatever line you choose enjoy!
  11. We booked Glacier Winds small boat in Icy Strait. Highly recommended on this site.
  12. Whale watching in Icy strait is suppose to be superb!
  13. Thanks, I am really asking for my husband. I have really never liked jeans. I will take different leggings, and sweater tunics. I can dress these up or down. We cruise Alaska in 2009, but I can’t remember what I took because it was a trans pacific sailing.
  14. Thanks all! We did Alaska in 2009 but things have changed drastically since then.
  15. I know jeans with out holes are acceptable, is there any night on a 7 day cruise that jean would not be in good taste. Trying to figure out packing. Thanks!
  16. Thanks Bruce! I was hoping to get a reply from some who had been on a Celebrity Alaska cruise, but I will try the other board and hope that it is not sent back to this board.
  17. I understand that Alaska Cruises are casual. Is there any night that it would be acceptable to wear to wear jeans to dining room?
  18. Yes, 32 Degree is a great site for reasonable cold weather items. Just got two packable puffer jackets for about $70. The other items bought Hot Hand hand and foot warmers.
  19. Fairmont has a hotel on airport property
  20. If you want to go up on a glacier and ride dog sled you must go in May. They don’t run in Sept, because snow is gone.
  21. I book three independent excursions - Costal Helicopters, Glacier Winds, and Alaska Shore Excursions. Some operator did not open bookings until Thanksgiving for May sailings. Others informed me staff will not be onboard until after New Year. I have all tours booked for our sailing now. I have found times and $$$ more conducive booking privately where I could.
