  1. MDR and its not close. You want a bunch of bacon? Just ask for it.
  2. I would want them to send a helicopter or boat which would get me to medical attention dramatically faster than a massive cruise ship. That is if it was important enough to have the whole ship stop what they were doing based on my medical situation.
  3. From my personal experience: Disney - quality is great but you have the issue of pricing and if you are not in to Disney as much (Dream which is one of their larger ships does its first Euro tour next year as well) NCL - but only the Haven as I did not like the general food around the ship much at all but their Haven offering is amazing I would say I am interested in Celebrity as well but still have yet to cruise them.
  4. Go in the Royal app, look up another cruise, go to Allure, and you can see the current cruise in the app with all its times and what not. I don't have a compass or I would share it.
  5. Yes they don't guarantee certain seats. Yes it could be crazy flight hours. Yes I understand you could end up with anything. My main question is if there is just 2 of you have most people been successful getting seats together or not? Not what is possible but what you experienced is what I was looking for. An extra fee to pick your seat is of less consequence since that is getting more normal by airlines these days.
  6. Went to glacier bay last year in September. I am very confused on why someone would think they would see rock. We had a great time there during that time frame and would absolutely do it again.
  7. Never saw any last year. Doesn't mean they don't. Not sure uber/lyft can pick up or drop off there since it's a private dock area from my understanding. Ward Cove is not a great spot to dock unfortunately.
  8. I am guessing having just been to Icy Strait. I suspect they mean the unlimited ticket to the Gondola that goes up the mountain to where the zip line is. The gondola and zip line exist now as well as a walking path but they are building more up there still.
  9. Was on NCL last September to Alaska on Encore. I can think of like 1 time being outside after dinner and it was simply because want purposely wanted to walk across the top deck. No clue if they do events now on the outdoor spaces you would need to read up on your ship and what prior cruises are doing.
  10. Checking the calendar show lots of days with 4 ships in port though. So you might see some out of luck. No clue if the other docks can handle the larger ships either since they normally port it seems at that railroad dock.
  11. Oh what do you mean by nice clothes? I would verify what the cruise line that you are going with requires. For me both on Norwegian and Royal I did nice jeans, collar shirt, with nice sweater over top. My wife would typically do a dress for a specialty resturant but you can get by with less likely. Some cruise lines though are more formal than others so I would check.
  12. I have long lists for Alaska packing. Layers for sure, rain jackets (that are water proof not water resistent), and hiking shoes/boots. Those are at the top of the list. I would verify with the tour operator what they recommend or offer to you. Also "not cruise people" might not be accurate. Lots of people get bit by the cruise bug without thinking they will really enjoy it. I would search around and find packing list ideas for Alaska and possibly search videos/reviews of your specific helicopter ride.
  13. Ketchikan Walk around town and see them and also the museum has them preserved as well. Have not gone to Saxman myself.
  14. I will say I don't agree with this. You can get great deals and experiences on a budget imo. Example we had 2 connecting balcony rooms on Royal for our family of 4 for $5200. Which about the same or less than lots of Caribbean cruises on newer ships. The excursions can add up but there is tons to do on a budget without breaking the bank most places especially if you are open to some hiking. Plus the scenery of just being there is amazing. People really need to run the numbers from my point of view. I could be wildly incorrect though on this haha.
  15. Passport Card is fairly worthless IMO as they can only be used by land or sea not by air. With cruising the whole reason not to just have a birth certificate is in case you get stuck in another country where you need to fly back.
  16. There are two different views you can have. (just random pictures I found below) Hopefully this gets the point across (although pictures dont do it justice). I find the Caribbean to be fairly similar and you likely have done it a bunch. You can do pretty much everything you do on a Caribbean ship in Alaska if you want (even things like laying out could be done in a indoor solarium).
  17. One of them I am on a plane for 6/8/12 hours. The other I am on the same cruise for days with people. Yes its not as packed as plane but I am also not having multiple meals, sitting in a 200/500/1000 person theater, touching self service buffet utensils, and packed in to elevators with. Plane travel and cruise travel just are vastly different and I don't see a correlation between one to the other as far as safety requirement. Same reason a cruise ship is the only place they jump on you to wash your hands before entering any eating establishment.
  18. Would make it a tad easier if they eliminated testing requirements on cruise returns from Alaska trips. Right now just the kids have to test on the last cruise day before getting to Seattle.
  19. Who said that? I have said since April 2020 that the only fool proof method for slowing down transmission is testing. I don't really see that going away until COVID is squarely a seasonal disease and not seen as really an issue to any ones health. I think most people were just saying expect to have makes for a long time. It was the safest bet for the anti-maskers instead of continually moving cruises. As an example Princess I think it is just brought masks back again for certain cruises.
  20. Then I will say you will be in for a rude awakening. Learned when looking at ships just because it's listed on the ship doesn't mean it's the same as another ship. First thing that comes to mind is the pool areas and the things within it. Which is why it's important to actually get further information than a check list. Example Brilliance and Harmony both will have slides but are drastically different. Even the teenage clubs are going to vary wildly but it will have a check in the box that a teenage club area exists. Also to add you are going to have things like Bumper Cars on the Quantum but it's limited hours and can have long lines to when they do offer it. Which is not something a simple list will provide.
