  1. You might want to check behind your tv, as our cabin steward showed us an extra outlet there. It was great for plugging my adapter in, leaving the desk port to charge my scooter. I think there's also one or two outlets behind the beds, but they're pretty much inaccessible to the average person.
  2. I got Covid on the Island TA May to June. The first person of four from our group to get Covid was relocated to another cabin. The two others and I weren't relocated because there weren't cabins available. Luckily there was a sofa in another cabin for patient 3 (tested positive two days later) and my cabin mate to move to. One caught Covid, the other didn't. The same thing happened with our cruise, captain notifying everyone of now mandatory masking but no enforcement that I saw. I only went to the buffet a few times and was masked 90% of the time during the cruise. FWIW I loved the Island Princess, particularly the bars and lounging areas scattered around the ship. We enjoyed On the Bayou but understand it's quite different than what it was pre renovation. A definite advantage to not having experienced the ship before.
  3. Yay I got email from Princess this morning with a different email address and a pdf of a medical release form to have my records released to the insurance company, AON. It would have helped to have that June 13 when I first requested the paperwork, but at this point I'm happy for anything resembling progress.
  4. I'm happy to read that you've received some of the funds due to you. Did you have to submit documentation for the food costs (restaurant/delivery receipts) to get the $500? They require documentation of food costs from me in addition to the more troublesome letter stating that I tested positive for Covid. I was told by Princess that I needed to email RRT Testing for my Covid test results. I've been corresponding with RRT Testing for two weeks now and was just informed that they only process tests if paid out of pocket, no insurance or cruise company costs cover their testing. Called Princess again this morning and was told they have no record of either Covid test I had done during our May to June TA. I think I'll try again tomorrow and escalate as needed.
  5. I just got an email today, ten weeks after filing the claim, requiring Covid test results (never got mine on the cruise, got the results for the cabin three doors down which my cabin mate placed under their door), and/or a copy of the quarantine order. They also want me to provide itemized bills verifying out of pocket expenses for hotel and or meals. I didn't expect the process to be easy, but I thought Aon would be respectably competent. Not so much.
  6. I can't say about current temperatures, but we had lovely weather in early June, with temps in the high 50s to mid 60s throughout Iceland, which is comfortable t shirt with maybe a shawl weather for us. Just be sure to have comfortable walking shoes and layers you can add or remove as needed.
  7. I usually don't eat bread despite enjoying it so much, but when cruising I like a roll before dinner. Couldn't agree more, it's the pre appetizer nosh.
  8. Asking the question that mattered to me re ice cream. When I was on the Island Princess two months ago, the ice cream stand Swirls was open from 12 to 6 pm and they sometimes had ice-cream in the mdr. I didn't find any at the buffet the times I was there or on the room service menu. I'm hoping it's more readily available now.
  9. Same thing here (wait, our TA isolation was June 13 to 18, sorry) other than the following email July 26th, 35 days after filing the claim with Aon. "We apologize that your claim is taking longer than initially expected. We appreciate your patience as we work through an increase in claims and allow our team members the additional time necessary to appropriately review each claim submission. Should we need any additional information, we will notify you.Thank You,Aon Affinity Travel Practice" The claim shows as assigned but not yet in progress.
  10. What a fantastic itinerary you've had! Glad to see your fine use of the good weather (even if the sky is "spitting on you" a bit.) Thank you for the pictures, they're fantastic! Adding Invergordon "On this site in 1897 nothing happened" - classic! and Edinburgh to my places to see list. A shame about the hot drinks, but it doesn't sound like you're letting that one aspect bring down your enjoyment of the cruise - many thanks for bringing us along.
  11. Thanks for triggering the memory - that's where I remember people dancing, though not so much ballroom dancing as it's a rather small dance floor. I remember a pianist and vocalist but not much more in the way of live music there. I very well could be mistaken as I see drums and a keyboard in my photo. The wooden floor space in the picture and a small space to the right is the dance floor.
  12. Thanks for the patter as well as the Crooner's menu. Good to see so much going on during a port day! Also helps to see the plus package will still serve me well for drinks, so no need to go premium. Much appreciated, particularly the hassle of converting the menu.
  13. I'm looking forward to your posts about Iceland on the 2nd leg of your b2b as that was the best part of our TA May to June. Also great to hear positive reports about the Island Princess, a beautiful ship with crew who were nothing but a pleasure to deal with. Down the hall from the Bayou and Sabatini's, we thoroughly enjoyed the old world charm of the Wheelhouse bar. I'd love to see a Princess Patter or a menu if you find time to post photos. So glad you're having good weather - things got a bit rocky at the end of our cruise. Added some extra motion to those sea days, so not a problem having to grab onto furniture occasionally. Enjoy your cruise - the itinerary looks fantastic! I definitely recommend Fish of the West Fjords excursion from Isafjordur if you haven't booked anything yet. It was a lovely stroll through the village of Sudureyri while learning about and sampling some of the local fish. Beautiful scenery on the bus ride there and back, as well as a crossroads in a tunnel through the mountain - fantastic engineering!
  14. Ice delivered to your cabin is an option on the app. I used it last month at the same time I requested extra hangers. Our room steward was a champ and showed up with both 15 minutes later. It was handy to have Rodrigo refill the ice bucket daily as I like my ice and it was particularly handy for filling our water bottles.
  15. It's for every cruise I looked into. I booked one for September (not sure if the timing will work) and another for August 2023. Took several minutes to login, but worth it to have two essentially on long term hold.
  16. Most of what was shown on MUTS on the Island TA May 26 to June 13 were concerts or other musical events. They showed some of the movies listed above but weren't putting out the blankets the one time we went.
  17. $500 to move from an inside cabin to a balcony for a 10 day cruise sounds like a bargain to me, as the cruises I've been pricing recently have a much larger price margin. I'd do it if you'll make use of the balcony - $$$ better spent elsewhere if not - and particularly so if it's a scenic cruise. I thoroughly enjoyed having the balcony for our recent TA through Iceland and the UK - some great pictures and decent videos were taken. JMO, of course.
  18. A lesson I learned on the TA to Halifax, Iceland and the UK. At least two of the buses I was on had someone coughing out a lung while not wearing a mask. I believe that was why our lovely guide in Shetland kindly asked that passengers please wear masks while on the bus. Five minutes later, they were off again. I'm not so keen on large group excursions after this experience.
  19. Can you give a source for that billion dollar loss? It would certainly explain the haste with which they ramped up capacity from then until now.
  20. Based on the addition of cabins on the 5th floor (Covid cabins were originally on 8) and the ship then telling positive people to stay in their cabin (often with a cabin mate who tested negative - I was in that group and my niece roommate was able to sleep on her parent's sofa the last night), the number of people who were positive even before the mass testing of those continuing on the next leg was a good deal more than 40. My area, promenade deck art, had 5 rooms with tables outside the door by Saturday morning. Mine joined them the next day. Two to three hundred sounds right, based on the two full buses that left and the many who were left behind, waiting for transport to their Covid hotel.
  21. I just watched a youtube video posted by La Lido Loca, currently doing a B2B on the Island Princess that showed him and his wife getting pizza at Sabatini's for lunch. The pizza didn't look great to me but that's just one person's opinion. I appreciated seeing the ship as they walked through it to get from their cabin to Sabatini's. Not crowded at all and what I saw of the Island was beautiful.
  22. Is that a standard thing at the buffet? If so, I will definitely have to check it out as I adore Mongolian BBQ. Anyone know if they have it on the Island Princess, even if only on certain nights?
