  1. They are party ships. Yes, very OTT indeed. Each to their own though.
  2. Yes, resident bands on ships are called Pulse. Some are better than others! The original Pulse group was on Britannia at launch and was absolutely brilliant - best I had ever seen.
  3. Only had Freedom once (Iona) and never again! Freedom dining is an oxymoron to me, but then I am a solo traveller which makes a difference I guess. Have made some good friends on fixed dining.
  4. You should watch the recent TV series filmed on a Virgin cruise first. May change your mind. Each to their own but my idea of hell! Suppose it depends on your age.
  5. Coffee provided in cabins is awful. I take Nescafe sachets of cappachino which are quite nice and light to pack. Also take my own biscuits. Morning culpa sorted!
  6. Agree. I did staycation with ship half full and it felt very crowded particularly on open decks. Not keen on her so luckily I'll not find out what she is like when full!
  7. Obviously. I want to have company at dinner and have made some friends this way.
  8. Yes, have been given Freedom with a Saver fare and changed it to my preferred Club second sitting when I got on board. Always pay select now so can choose fixed dining as it is important to me as a solo traveller.
  9. Go and see the Maitre D at the MDR as soon as you board. Have changed mine before so worth a try. First sitting is busier than second though, and depends if ship is full too.
  10. Always makes us laugh when, in St Lucia, staff have to go ashore to drag people out of Rum Therapy!
  11. Same here. Never leave dirty dishes in corridor.
  12. Iona is freedom only and I expect Arvia will be too. One of the reasons I will not use them.
  13. Some long cruises coming up soon. Wonder if there are going to be the same problems as there were this year in the Caribbean.
  14. As I said, different ships. Also Arcadia had more crew than the normal complement so maybe that was the difference.
  15. On Arcadia in August there were wine waiters in MDR and they kept your bottle for the next night. Maybe depends on the ship. They all seem to have slightly differing practices.
  16. C deck balconies are the biggest, and provide some shade and privacy. However D deck cabins have slightly smaller overlooked balconies but more inside space if that is important to you.
  17. Have been on Arcadia, Ventura and Britannia over the past few months and thought Arcadia was in as good a state as the other two. Lots of new carpet and furniture and cabin had been refreshed. She was very clean and tidy, in fact better than Ventura I thought.
  18. Rarely use the buffet as I do not do breakfast and prefer lunch and dinner in dining room. Had a look at buffet on Iona, although never used it, and it looked a bit small for size of ship.
  19. Was on her in August to Baltic. Great cruise, no complaints.
  20. Have always paid less for single occupancy of a balcony than the price for a couple on P&O. However Celebrity used to charge solos more than double fare which is why I stopped using them.
  21. Still Syndicate Quiz on Arcadia, but not on Britannia.
  22. Do Randox, Prenetics, etc, on line tests supply a results certificate showing positive result?
  23. No separate veggie menu but noticeably more veggie choices on menus than there used to be.
  24. Agree. Be sociable, go to the lunch, meet people and enjoy it.
