  1. On Symphony out of Rome last month, steward introduced himself, and asked if we wanted morning or evening service. Actually it appeared to be 2 stewards working together. We had 2 connecting staterooms. We told them if they gave each room double towels/wash clothes, it didn’t matter. They could replace any used towels when ever it was best for their schedule. Couldn’t have been easier, and they appreciated the flexibility. They set their cart next to our room, and we’d often be leaving for an excursion and see them, and swap out towels with them, and let them know we didn’t need anything else for the day. on a day I may have brought a plate of cookies or a glass of wine back, as a I was leaving my room they would ask if I had any dishes or glasses I wanted to give them to take away. DD and DGS had room service one night, and a Sorrentos pizza another. They let stewards know as they left the room, that they had dishes and would be onshore for the day. in our experience it worked well. Give them flexibility, ask up front to keep double towels, and give them a couple days off at towel swap, if nothing out of ordinary needed. Made our stay wonderful. And made their days easier

  9. We wanted to tour Italy pre-cruise for our Symphony of the Seas sailing this month, so embarked in Civitavecchia. We finished our Rome stay with a morning tour that included a transfer to the port that afternoon. Embarkation was a breeze! We were happily surprised that Royal’s app was fully updated sometime before check-in, to allow us to check in, see daily activities, menus, etc. What? Royal IT got something to work ?!? Yes ! (Note: We didn’t attempt to book any activities in the app until halfway through the cruise. We were able to book comedian on the app). FYI, at embarkation we had tour tickets for only the first two ports. Shore excursion desk said the rest would be in our room when we reached Barcelona, and they were absolutely correct. I’d have no hesitation choosing the Rome option again . Worked out well for us.
  10. @POA1, we just returned from Rome after a Med cruise. My DGS had the new passport with purple pages, and double photo, as his was renewed in November, and received in January of this year. My DD and I had older passports. As we cleared passport control in FCO to fly home, DGS new passport didn’t work on the self scanner lanes. My DD and I had already scanned and gone through. An airport worker took DGS (a teen) by the arm and walked him away, while DD repeatedly tried to find out where to meet him. Very stressful, and took about 10 minutes to contact him. All was good, as teen had a phone to call us. They took him to a line for UK manual passport control. Not sure why UK instead of US. Just a caution, other countries’ passport scanners may not yet work with the new US passports, so let your DW scan hers first, to possibly prevent being separated.
