Interested in a comparison between HAL and a Scenic River cruise?
Haljo1935 replied to 1of4's topic in Holland America Line
Question re disembarkation: the top Disembarkation Program shows times through 15:45, meaning someone could stay on the ship until 3:45 (really?). The Departure List shows the last group as luggage being out by 8:30 w/departure time from the ship as "various." Are there some people that really stay on, or could stay on, until 3:45pm? -

Congrats on both making the cruise and the upgrade!! Safe travels- enjoy your cruise!! -
Similar thing happened to BFF w/her Barclay's Princess card. That's a lot of cruise credits to lose.

It would be beyond disappointing to be on a ship w/o GDC and have the Crow's Nest closed off each afternoon/evening so I could not get my favorite lattes as being reported on another thread. That seriously would bite.

Interested in learning how they worked for DW and her feedback if you'll kindly come back to update us. Safe travels - enjoy your cruise!

We were not charged on NS TA Nov Dec 2023. Cabinmate got 2 packs almost every day, never charged, but was told she couldn't get more than 2 at a time which is why she went back every day. We kept green apples & ginger ale in the cabin for her as well.

They did on K'dam as recently as Jan this year, NS Dec 2023 and Eurodam May 2023.

Same here 😉 love them!

DH also enjoys the carpaccio.

Hey @Mary229 when was your train w/assigned cars & open seating? Ours was May 2022. @Wehwalt indicated they also had assigned seating. Curious when a change might have been made.

@kazu those flowers are so pretty - can never say enough what great florists HAL has. And the 5* wine tasting looks like a winner except there seem to be no crackers. I'm telling you - you have opened our eyes to the Great Cracker Shortage of 2024 👀 🥺

Basics Regarding Back to Back: Off and Back on the Ship
Haljo1935 replied to spocruiser's topic in Holland America Line
@spocruiser We did a "turnaround" in Athens - we treated it as a port day, getting off as early as we were allowed, took the HOHO (which stops right at the port) and got back on about an hour before All Aboard. To get back on, we just scanned our cards like at any other port. I don’t remember what we did when we got off, but it couldn't have been much or I'd remember it, lol. I do remember meeting and getting an "in transit" card. That was June 2017, so things could definitely have changed. -
7 Day Tropical Caribbean on the Neiuw Statendam
Haljo1935 replied to scubacruiserx2's topic in Holland America Line
Although HMC wasn't crowded during our last visit, we also had a lot of people asking about our clamshell. Even had someone crawl in it while we were walking the beach - said they didn't notice our bags and towels 🤷♀️ We turned ours over to a couple who had not rented one, but wanted one. I wish the clamshells had slits for air as it gets really hot in them. Great picture showing the 2 loungers inside. -
Packing that terrific attitude is the best insurance for a great cruise! Safe travels. Bon Voyage!!

Mine too! Grand Dutch Cafe is an excellent alternative for lunch and convenient for special coffee.

Happy to see Holland America embrace their Dutch Heritage
Haljo1935 replied to Mary229's topic in Holland America Line
Happy to do it! Never had a bad bite or drink there and now I'm hungry! -
We didn't have that issue since ours was assigned seating. And it was full - no empty seats. I hope for open seating people wouldn't do that. The full windows do provide great viewing, as does the platform when it's open.

@Vineyard View I agree w/ @RedneckBob that one contributing factor to PG lunch service being above dinner service is the low attendance- we have never seen PG lunch full for regular lunch, but have for brunch. Also agree there's no shortage of food served at lunch.
