  1. If this is outside of the kid times in the solarium I would not be impressed. I go to the solarium for a kid free environment where I don’t have to be careful of little ears.
  2. It’s on my list of tours to take. I’ve seen large commercial laundries on land before and it’s pretty incredible. There’s no way cold would even be an option, what if someone has a skin infection etc. I wouldn’t want my clothes to be communally washed on cold even if it were an option.
  3. Rental cars have gotten insane everywhere pretty much and Alaska is just even worse. I couldn’t believe the price of hotels so I kept looking and when a good price popped up I booked it right away.
  4. Made me think of my grandmother who is 83, she’s the fun grandma who will not be left out on a round of shots. Age doesn’t define who likes to have fun. I went to search old adds from celebrity and none of them featured anyone over 60. Celebrity hasn’t changed its marketing by a lot but the cruisers that are complaining on CC just don’t remember being young I think.
  5. A few kids is very reasonable. As you’ve said you know there are lines that are adults only and that choice is yours to make.
  6. I’ve been getting travel health insurance since I was 21 (no longer on my parents plan). I am Canadian and would go hiking etc in the US and I know how expensive search and rescue can be. I travel at least 6 times a year not including quick trips across the border so having an annual coverage is well worth it. I now have private health insurance which includes a travel policy but upgraded for trip interruption etc. just in case.
  7. Are you considering holidays for other countries when making your booking. If I’m bored one night I might just do the research for countries most likely to cruise and when their kids are on vacation. I also avoid those times but must admit I don’t know when European countries have their holidays etc. Since Celebrity mostly has US passengers you should be looking at when their kids are in school more so than UK kids.
  8. I am a Deep Autumn so the traditional cruise wear is not my palette. I finally figured out that “safari wear” was more my vacation style and started a Pinterest board for inspiration. It will be for my TA in December but I’ll need to tweak it for my Caribbean cruise in 2025. The Caribbean is not my ideal destination but it’s a family trip.
  9. If anything I think it surprised a lot of people that I actually brought my knitting and quilting onboard to work on. They think only old grannies do that… so wrong. Made some great quilting friends onboard my cruise actually, we even went fabric shopping together in port. weeks away from second celebrity cruise as well we are in the same boat but unfortunately not “on the same boat” 🤣
  10. I am starting to try the 5-4-3-2-1 packing method for future cruises no matter the length. 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 dresses, 3 shoes, 2 or 3 outerwear, 2 bags, 2 scarves, 1 or 2 swimsuits, 1 hat, 1 necklace, 1 sunglasses. the exception to that is activity specific gear so if I’m planning on working out I’ll bring my workout clothes. If I’m doing big hikes I’ll bring that clothing. I plan to bring one medium sized suitcase and a personal item for my 16 day cruise.
  11. I’ll take the C172 only if I can be the copilot 😂😂😂
  12. Thank you for posting this. The comments on CC have made me less want to cruise on Celebrity. I’m in my 30s, single, no kids and just want a relaxing vacation with a little pampering. My presence on board the ship does not negatively impact anyone else’s vacation but they complain that advertising is encouraging women in their 30s to cruise. What is so wrong with women in their 30s? If anything we have a lot in common. Just like them I like that celebrity isn’t covered in children running around. Just like them I enjoy good food. Just like them I want to sip my drink (mine is scotch). Just like them I don’t want to see water slides on the ship.
  13. I sew most of my vacation clothing so I’m taking a guided workshop series right now called Design Your Wardrobe. It’s a great way to refine my style for a cohesive look and then I start sewing the pieces I’m missing. I have 5 more pieces to make before my December cruise. This week it was a cute cardigan that was UPF50. Next week I’m starting a trench coat.
  14. I did northbound last year and took a bus transfer which included a wildlife center which was amazing. This year I’m going southbound with my mom and we are taking the train (it’s EARLY). From the train station we are taking a tour in Seward which includes exit glacier, sealife center, kenai fjord national park, and downtown Seward. They drop us off at the ship afterwards. It’s a max of 16 people on the tour so we are looking forward to the smaller group size.
  15. Zadie is next on my list. Saw so many people wearing them at my last tradeshow and it looked so good on. I am tall so I sometimes have to extend the length at the waist.
  16. Mine I find weird as well. Not sure why it’s about 35% more.
  17. They may be using a product like synthrapol which captures loose dye so it doesn’t bleed onto other garments. It works best at hot temperatures. There’s a similar product referred to as colour catchers (shout among other brands make these) and it’s like a dryer sheet but prevents stray dye from transferring. I am a professional dryer and use synthrapol every single day at work and I use the sheets at home when washing quilts for the first time. I remember back when I was in cadets on a military base we would put all our laundry in a big mesh bag and then all the mesh bags are thrown into the washer and dryer. No need to sort through each piece of laundry.
  18. So sad for you and you are reasonably upset. I wonder if there could have been a mechanical issue that required a reduced number of guests for safety reasons. I could see the railway and celebrity lying about that so that other guests didn’t find out and feel unsafe. Celebrity should have arranged a replacement tour for those who were cancelled and refunded and provided compensation in my opinion. Unfortunately I am not surprised they selected who were bumped. They probably have priority for suites and “loyal customers”. It’s not right but they probably thought those people would complain the most and cost them the most money in the short and long term. Again not saying it’s right.
  19. I always wash in the sink using Soak which doesn’t require rinsing. Today I discovered these mini washboards for sale for travel and think I may try one out for my 15 day TA.
  20. The menu on Milli is very small. I like the breakfast if I have an early morning excursion (especially if I may have had several drinks the night before) or for late night snacks.
  21. Single, no kids, self employed. I was driving everyone nuts talking about upcoming cruises so I joined CC for my family and friends sanity. I’ve “met” some really nice people on here and also some… now I understand the features of ignoring certain people.
  22. EU SIM cards are pretty cheap and work well in port. I decided to skip on wifi because I can check in while in port and enjoy being disconnected while at sea. Does your phone have a dual sim option? I’ve swapped out my SIM card if I bought a physical sim but now also have a Esim so I can toggle back and forth between accounts. at home I have a SIM cards for Canada and an Esim when I travel in the US. The cost of international plans in Canada is absurd at $15 a day. In Germany it was 15 Euro for a month.
  23. I was very happy in my interior room on my Alaskan cruise and actually booked it a second time. If money were no object I’d book a suite but I rather cruise more often than spend on a balcony. Make sure the ship has lots of viewing spots that you can sit and enjoy the scenery. in the morning I wake up, get dressed, head out for coffee and don’t really return until I’m getting dressed for dinner. Look at the itinerary if your in port most days you won’t be looking at much scenery anyways and the few sea days you can spend your time out of your cabin. lots of people will say a balcony is the absolute minimum cabin type but lots of people are not you. Only you can decide what is right for you.
