  1. your requirements for location etc drives the price out of your range without compromises. It is not likely you are going to find anything in the core that is modern enough to have an elevator in your price range. You might be able to find a small private hotel or B&B that has a ground floor (not first floor) room. Most places I have been have the ground floor given over to reception and social area. Sometimes a small coffee bar or breakfast eating area. because so many small hotels and B&B are in historic buildings, you are not going to find elevators nor spacious rooms. Though as a cruiser, you probably can cope with small rooms. by booking early you may be able to find someplace with a ground floor room At over a year out, it is hard to find accurate price quotes. In fact some hotels will not book that far out. Plus you are quoting for the middle of peak tourist season. The Holiday Inn Express at Sloterdijk Station might be a compromise. Removed from the center but at a location with easy access to the Metro and Trams.
  2. it feel like the renovations ( which are extensive) have been going on for quite some time. The arrivals level roadway where shuttles arrive have felt very crowded recently, they are, over all, always crowded. The airport has become so amazingly busy. Cruise port days it is very noticeable. If the hotels says they are shutting down their service , or perhaps cutting back, then you may wish to reconsider your arrangements. While I hate a long journey on a late arrival, taking the Light Rail downtown ( westlake station) and having a room there may make your life a little bit easier for 30 minutes bother. All the major hotel chains represented. I regularly have to wait for the parking garage shuttle and some days it is easily over 10 minutes. Unfortunately waking out of the airport is not the most clear cut of options. I am not really sure how to do it, I have never looked for the route. I suspect you would have to walk out to the Light Rail platform and take the elevator down
  3. crab cake and avocado sandwich is the devils work. That and a slice of success cake and I swear my doctor would reach out and yank me home for rehab. Ha ha ha what she does not know.
  4. From there it would be .3 mile walk. Lots of moving parts
  5. Thunderbird Fried Chicken just along from the Earls Court tube station. My wings were fresh and perfectly done, big and crisp and super juicy inside there are a lot of interesting places along this road and in this area. I see Kungfu on Ealrs Court and Nevern Pl had hand pulled noodles and a lot of different treatments. If they are inclined to spicy chinese this might also be a good place to discover. It is on my calendar for next January when I am back for Northern Lights
  6. THANKS! I have never had a Ceylon green. I usually have Sencha or or Genmaicha
  7. Have fun exploring, the last thing I would do is choose a hotel lounge. Fine for late night drink and snax, but there are so many options in the neighborhood.
  8. Uber / Lyft or taxi would be best. Using the Lite Rail would involve finding transport again from the core to the hotel, which is a little further north. I am a Lyft gal myself, but you get the picture.
  9. totally agree that the castle would be a good use of time, along with lunch or tea at a local place. If the weather was fine and I was feeling well, I would walk the costal path to the south foreland lighthouse as well. If it is April or early May and you are a wildflower fan, Samphire Hoe has exceptional wild orchids.
  10. most hotels will hold your bag for when you early check in. Go to your hotel check in and leave your bags , and then go out for lunch and explore. Stay uptown away from the station for better access to the sties you wish to see. There are many of the name brand hotels to choose from and also many smaller boutique type places. YOu can catch the link lite rail to several stops in the core, or take a quick Uber /Lyft . There is a flat rate from Yellow cab to the airport from downtown hotel core. That is as handy as anything and you can book ahead. See their web site. I am a Lyft gal myself and Uber / Lyft are not really much different from a taxi and all are best for door to door. They should be quite plentiful. I dont know what you might mean about "easier" The light rail is fine and the nice thing about it is after it gets out of the local neighborhoods it is immune from the traffic as it is elevated and off the public road. It is your most economical choice, but it is a walk from the platform to the departure desks. a car service will land you slightly closer. you can choose a hotel close to one of the Link stations if that helps
  11. I am surprised they do not offer a single green tea. I know that is not traditional, but sometime I cannot tolerate black teas. I am happy with the selection and might be inclined to try the Mandarin, which sounds a bit like some afternoon teas which have a touch of lemon or other citrus.
  12. Totally agree. I would self tour Iceland myself. So much better access to what you wish to see
  13. Change to the Jubilee line at Green Park
  14. for sky explorers I recommend the very excellent Stellarium app
  15. the greenhouse was a wonderful surprise. I loved the little bumblebees
  16. I am doing northern lights in January and am particularly excited to be back in London. I discovered a fantastic hole in the wall wings place and eager to visit them again.
  17. agree with the others that your question is simply on e where no one can really guide you towards what it is you want. Personally I would avoid most of Europe, particularly the Med, as it is busy , crowded, hot and thats not my jam. I would head to the far north to experience the Midnight Sun; Iceland, Greenland , Svalbard, Norway
  18. first time I have seen anyone mention the wings. I am a bit of a wing ho, and pretty darn picky. I like a good Buffalo sauce, but appreciate the other particularly a good asian sweet chili
  19. You sound like you have a good plan. You can take the carry on with you on the bus, no worries and they do have luggage storage at the museum. the bus does not go all the way to the airport proper, so you will have to walk the last little distance or catch the LINK one stop. I would take the LINK that last stop otherwise you are met with a tangle of car friendly roads and ramps. I have never even pondered how to get into the airport proper on foot
  20. I worked for years in a building that was filled with electronic locks. Instead of a lanyard, far easier is a clip bungie which you can clip to the inside of a pocket or a waistband. NO annoying neck skin rubs. the plastic holder did not interfere with function
  21. Pull off all old bar code stickers from previous trips Download the airline app. If the offer luggage routing alerts sign up for that. I fly Delta and get alerts for my bags loading and for baggage collection belt numbers. Place you name and contact information on the inside as well as outside of bag. Include name address and phone of the hotel.
  22. I experience just the opposite. When something arises, I do not have to concern myself on the thoughts and experience of the others. I simply yield to my own situation and manage my own expectations. When something goes sideways, I deal and solve; adapt or change, feeling no need to consult others unless there is a technical issue like booking a flight, then I contact my airline. I have traveled solo so long that I feel secure in the situation and know that journeys are filled with many forks and sometimes roadblocks
  23. I swear I can remember getting prints and fingers done before, but cannot remember where.
