  1. Have stayed at Olive8 and the Paramount, both equal standard and perfectly suitable for your needs. I would assume the Grand is of equal standard. All of them , overall, well rated
  2. I think UK got hit last month with a network glitch. Things got higgledy piggledy at LHR. It would be a monumental task to get all countries to agree to a universal standard, particularly VISA Issues. Some you jump thru hoops for, others are stapled into your book on arrival. Then there is the ETIAS which a lot of us are poised to get when they finally green light the program. How delayed is it?
  3. certainly a tram or train is a more ecologically efficient thing, but from what I have seen here, so many are intimidated by public transport systems and logistics. Planning to move a port elsewhere and then not have infrastructure to eliminate cars needed is confounding me
  4. The world of food is right there. You are in the core neighborhood of the city. For Seattle classic, Upscale; Andaluca, Olivers Lounge for drinks, martinis are great , For wine focus and menu Pairings, Purple Cafe and Wine Bar, . For adventure, the Asean Street Food Hall at Westlake center; a riff on classic Hawker food centers in Singapore and beyond. There are many beloved eateries in and around the Market; Matts Lowells, Adriatica. Almost any restaurant owned and run by Ethan Stowell or Thierry Rautureau are must do. If you are looking for something specific go to google maps hit restaurants and sort on cuisine, ; you will likely fine whatever you are craving. For something different go to the market, stroll through the shops and stall and gather a picnic then walk on the ferry for a evening sail out and back to Bremerton, enjoying the sunset and city lights
  5. Personally, I would take either of the other 2 hotels. They have pools and are equally close to the seawall path. The close convenience to embarkation would be the selling point for me You don't mention a date, remember the weather factor
  6. Do you have a stroller? The Westin is 1mile. Seems to me that would be a challenge without a stroller , even without the luggage.
  7. your friend best be prepared with oral medication to help. Ginger candy, green apples are two benign treatments. Meclizine is an oral medication over the counter ( grocery /drug store and Amazon) that can be taken once a day. I dont get any side effects with it. Scopolamine patches are pretty heavy duty and have more potential side effects. She will need to talk to her doctor about it. It is contraindicated with certain medical conditions There is a popular You Tube person who is a dedicated cruiser, a TA and very prone to motion sickness, even in cars. She has talked about getting seasick, even on the large ships. It really more depends on sensitivity and the sailing conditions. low center room will help
  8. I am glad you enjoyed your visit to some of my favorite areas of my state. I think many people are surprised to find out how vastly different the landscape of eastern Wa /Or is from the western side. For geology nuts, the east side of Wa state is a wonderland.
  9. She has a Wiki page, though not sure it has been maintained.
  10. So many Excellent Suggestions, ditto on the opinion on Vashon experience and the risk for ferries staffing issues Snoqualmie falls and the train museum are a fun change of pace and with Remlinger that is a big kid friendly day.
  11. https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/fares-and-payment/ways-to-pay/transit-go-ticket It should cover your trips. Be mindful of the correct ferry. I am not familiar with the fast line discussed but it is a good price
  12. day in and day out Google Maps is my most used app. I find and discover so many things, at home or abroad. My calendar is loaded with notes about places in London that I discovered while noodling around looking for something else.
  13. there is a GWR train station in Avonmounth which does run in to Bristol but it does not look like the most convenient or useful route. It stops at Temple Meads and it is a short walk to the ferry boats that run down the waterway to the heart of the city. Like gumshoe said, however, the harbor area is not very user friendly from the dock area
  14. The combined bus and light rail will take about 1 hour plus small wait / transfer time. The advantage of the light rail is it is usually less traffic impacted. If something does go sideways on the route you still have lyft / uber option. If you have google maps on your phone you can zoom in and see the timetable all the way to the destination . I would plan getting to airport 2 1/2 to 3 hour ahead
  15. this is actually a line on the Underground. the use of the word "train" might be what is confusing you. The Piccadilly Line is where you are going to use your Oyster . You can transfer at Barons Court for a District Line to Upminster / Barking / Tower Hill. all of these are termini in the east. The Underground is easy to use once you get the hang of it. There are resources on line which will make you feel more comfortable. I hope your Oyster comes with a paper map. Your phones map app will likely show you the routes and the color associated with those routes if you tap on the zoomed in station name. Take time to become familiar, you will be a happy traveler if you do
  16. You also need an understanding of indigenous culture history and sometimes spiritual practice. Thank you @JeffElizabeth for understanding this important aspect of the community you were visiting.
  17. Trains are trains, they go long distances. National Rail is the umbrella name and it is made up of different system providers. The Underground or Tube is the subway system which travel all over the Greater London region run by Transport for London ( TFL ) On your google maps, the National rail stations are indicated by 2 parallel lines with two dashes that look like modified arrow The Underground ( aka Tube) is indicated by the Roundel (💗) All but one greater London terminal train stations is served directly by an underground station and lines. When navigating you follow the signs that have the appropriate symbol. You will see it quickly, the train stations are much more expansive with large destination signs and timetables and people standing about and looking for their platform number. When approaching on street level you turn into the appropriate entrance. When arriving underground you transfer via underground malls; again with appropriate signs and symbols.
  18. Agree there are 6 and 8 hour Golden Circle tours and they are to wonderful geologic sites. I particularly enjoyed the Tomato Greenhouse. Your hotel may be able to provide you with a bix lunch. My hotel did ( a non corporate hotel) and it was an excellent value If you choose to stay in town there are a wide variety of museums to enjoy. Dont miss out on the popular hot dog stands.
  19. Rochester IS an excellent choice. The castle and cathedral along with several different museums. I really enjoyed the Guildhall museum.
  20. Using original bottles absolutely does make sense. Most travel experts and the CDC advise to do so, some countries require it. Bottles are important for control of humidity and light . The script on the bottle has important information including pill count in cases of emergency where you are not able to give answers The rules are in place and even though authorities may not ask or look for them, when they do, best have things correct. You never know who is on your flight and when authorities may desire inspection, perhaps based on intelligence or a drug dog alert Ask your pharmacist for smaller bottles. Ask your doctor for travel exemption if you exceed your refill cycle
  21. Agree with @mrgabriel, take Heathrow Express or Elizabeth Line to Paddington then take a cab. If you are at The Belgrave on Belgrave Rd, you don't have the best connection to the Underground. Pimlico station is deep underground and is not step free. No elevator
  22. Right next door to the ship dock is Tilbury Fort. This is an English Heritage site. It might be a pleasant visit on a sunny day. Perhaps with a box lunch. I don't know of anything of note in Tilbury town or Gravesend across the river. Gravesend can be a stop for drug store or food needs. Small walk on ferry to cross the river. London is easy to get to on train. In the other direction is Southend on Sea. If you are not against taking a train, the Southend Pier, the arcades and some fish and chips might suit.
  23. there are two Hampton Inns on 28th Ave There is not a handy drug store or grocery store within walking distance, nor any sit down establishments I would suggest using your map app. Not knowing what exactly you need at a drug store... many grocery stores , like Safeway also have pharmacy and OTC medications and products. There is a Bartells and a Safeway about 1 to 1 1/2 mile south. You may need to Uber / Lyft to one that is near a sit down restaurant.
