  1. You could always make sure your entire group is there at 6:30 or even better earlier and just show up. We have been booked @6:30 or 7p and wanted earlier so we would just show up as soon as the dining room opens and would be seated right away. It seems after 7p is a very popular time. They leave a certain percentage if tables available for walk ups.
  2. So incredibly sad. We have taken many photos around this beautiful tree over the years. Now just a memory.
  3. There’s a whole lot of infrastructure that needs to happen. Yes there are resorts in South Maui and West Maui. But just how are you going to get there. Pretty sure all these rental car companies have lost a fair number of cars that were in Lahaina and the vicinity. How about the grocery stores and getting supplies in. The first consideration needs to be to take care of Maui’s own residents. There will be a huge need to fly in workers to help rebuild and they will be needing a place to stay. Residents will need hotel rooms too. In case you are not aware infrastructure for roads on any of these islands is an extremely slow snail pace project. Everything is caught up in tangles. Many times when they start to dig they run into ancient burial grounds and have to reroute. I understand many have had their vacations Interrupted and canceled. I get that. Ourselves included. Not a good time to get in the way and take up valuable resources. Lahaina for awhile to come will not be the Lahaina we all knew. The historic old buildings are gone. Much of the beautiful scenery burned.
  4. As far as we know we’re on in November. I don’t think anything happened to it. Somebody just didn’t like it for whatever reason. They were disappointed with the food and/or wines and it sounds like it turned them off to Celebrity.
  5. Thank you. We do not live on Maui but spend quite a bit of time there. I acquired the name about 35 years ago!! We do have friends on Maui and are just devastated for everyone. Can’t believe how Old town Lahaina is gone. The Banyan Tree was a landmark. Glad to hear your kids and their property are ok. Mary.
  6. Yes everyone view is subjective. That’s why I take it with a grain of salt. The same with a restaurant or hotel. It’s mostly those with a bad experience who comment and not all of the ones who have had great experiences. For ourselves we do not take them seriously.
  7. I find it amazing that you even get the correct clothes returned to you!! After all those slips of paper could get separated that you mark your laundry on. How do they mark the bags that all go into those giant machines?
  8. I guess we just really like to cruise. We love the Edge Class. Last year we read so many negatives about the Solstice that made us quite nervous. We ended up cruising twice on her in 2022 and found it to be quite lovely. Yes a few places a little worn but in far better shape than we imagined. We loved the crew. We were not in a suite and really enjoyed our Sunset verandas. We just booked the Eclipse for Nov to Mexico and are anticipating having a very good time. We decided we would go to Mexico before Celebrity drops this West Coast route out of LA. We will check it out for ourselves. Even with cutbacks in the dining and buffet we have been challenged a few times but never gone away hungry! We have a veranda guarantee on this one which is something we have never done before.
  9. We were on the Transatlantic in April on the Beyond. We switched from a different Transatlantic before final payment and as a result we could not get the Sunset veranda that we had booked on that one. Our only choice was the Infinite Veranda. We ended up liking it far more than we thought we would. It added more space to our stateroom. We did have a Sunset on the following cruise and barely used the balcony. What we really enjoyed was the Sunset bar area. For us we found ourselves going back and forth between Normandy and Tuscan dining rooms for 22 days! Many times had the same waiter and table. Oops we did eat dinner in the buffet a few times. We too loved the Martini Bar.
  10. For Jan we broke apart a b2b2b on the Beyond. They were all non refundable deposits. We decided against the last segment so canceled that one segment. We moved the non refundable deposit to yet another date on a different ship. We managed to pull it off w/o even loosing $200 of the deposit! Like WestLakeGirl said they are all independent of ea other.
  11. Just curious. Traveling with two kids and want to keep them in the same room. We do not want to book a suite. They are ages 11&12
  12. In our case the entire NRD was moved 3x. No administrative fees were subtracted no fees were charged either. It was treated exactly as a refundable deposit. It all depends who you talk with. Like I said being polite helps seal the deal!
  13. I think it’s a good idea to try different lines and different products as different lines appeal to different people. It’s only after you have tried different products that you know what works best. We started out with RCCL but have settled in more with Celebrity but it’s only if they have an itinerary that works for us.
  14. Personally we like seeing all ages represented on cruises. Even on the Transatlantic that we were just on there were a few young families with young kids among the dominant senior set. These were mostly pre schoolers but a few looked to be school age. It was refreshing to see them. On the next cruise after the transatlantic the demographics were much different now that some of the European schools were out on holiday. The dining staff really felt it with all the really late night diners. We know many parents who feel that travel is a great education in itself. We enjoy seeing them and really appreciate it when the kids are well disciplined and polite. I know this isn’t always the case!
  15. We have stayed at the Mayflower many times. We used to ride the train from Portland and stay here when my husband was here for business meetings. We stayed here for cruises too. Wonderful hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. For just a few nights we found the classic rooms worked ok for us. There is a nice area in the upper lobby that is good for relaxing and reading. We really like it here. Pacific Place Shopping Center is nearby walking distance which has some nice restaurants.
  16. It was/is a fabulous cruise. Everything about it. The crew, the Captain, itinerary and the ship. Just wish it was staying in Europe next summer. Wow it was hot hot hot for your family in Europe. We too just walked around Dubrovnik but we did splurge for a light lunch in a tucked away restaurant with a view of the water. We liked exploring the nooks and crannies. Will agree it was spendy there and there were just the two of us. Looking forward to hearing more.
  17. We too booked a guarantee for $429 for Nov 11. We just did this today. Hope we have your luck on a non obstructed view. We are SV cruisers so this is definitely a change for us. We also booked it CRUISE ONLY figuring we can buy all the coffee and drinks we need. We’re still only elite so the elite breakfast and HH drinks works for us.
  18. Also the families that visit Disney and add on the short cruise for the family. Suspect also attracts a long weekend party crowd.
  19. We have had a NRD waived three times now. Did have to go up the chain of command. We were nice and polite and booked a longer more expensive cruise so maybe that helped. Most recently was last winter when switched to the Beyond on a transatlantic from a different ship and date. Of course it was more expensive since the original was booked over a year earlier. It can be done or else we were just lucky with the phone rep we got. We were booked directly with Celebrity.
  20. Yes you will. We have seen a lower price and gotten it as long as you can find another comparable stateroom that is open. Sometimes you have to act fast as we have seen it get taken right before our eyes. We have actually changed a cruise several times with a non refundable deposit. We did not loose anything. We did have to get permission from a supervisor which we did w/o any issues. As long as you do not cancel completely they did it.
  21. We have now done three cruises on the Beyond. Two in Sunset Aft staterooms on deck 8 and one in an Infinite Veranda on deck 7. Loved all our staterooms. Beautiful ship. Only ran into one passenger who had a noisy Stateroom and the staff moved them. We love the Beyond and now have two more booked for this winter.
  22. Loving your review. We were just on the Beyond in April/May and it was early enough to have nice weather without being too hot. Very much enjoying looking back on fond memories we had from your review. Liked your comments on the age demographics so it was good we were earlier as we would definitely be seniors now!! Eagerly awaiting for more 😎
  23. We have three b2b2b coming up. We will turn to elite plus after the second B2B. We did not purchase the all inclusive for the third cruise. We too can do quite well if we have the coffee and tea benefit as we are fine with HH and few purchases during the day if we feel the need. Will our new status be recognized this soon or does it take corporate awhile to get it changed over?
  24. Adult kids over the age of 18 still get credit even though their parents paid for their cruise!! Id venture to guess not very many pay for their own cruise when sailing with their parents. Pretty sure that’s not how you meant it!!! Our kids assumed our status on RCCL and that later transferred to elite status on Celebrity. We took a grandson on a couple of Celebrity Cruises and he did not get Captains Club credit as he was under age 18.
