  1. What do you mean you will give up? Sounds like you booked a cruise to Mexico already. I agree having the ship/ being onboard & quieter in port is nice. So you will book another cruise that doesn’t involve tenders?
  2. On The Sun P. I believe the category room is a DG ( cove balcony) and they’re on deck 6. I don’t think I would want one of those personally as above your head is deck 7 with all the public areas( Good spirits,Crown grill,Princess Live, O’ Malley’s etc.) and no staterooms above you. Noise might not an issue??
  3. @bucky0926 I found this menu ( lobster roll) in the dining room on the Enchanted . Yes it’s an upgrade , 1 cent cheaper than the burger/lobster grill on Majestic. Not sure if all the ships are offering this at lunchtime in the main dining room ,but here’s the menu. If you are on a seven day cruise, I don’t remember what you had said in your previous post ,but usually lobster is served complementary on the second formal night in the dining room. It’s really small……
  4. @whatcruiseisnext -no fee for changing out your Elite mini bar set up. Ask your cabin steward, call the room service department, or leave a note for what you want. Any of those should work.
  5. Thanks @startedwithamouse just going by what is on Princess.com. No surprise it’s out of date. Good to point out to others though.
  6. @timbom from Princess.com FAQ’s accessibility. Accessibility Ashore Let’s chat about what you can expect as your plan your experiences ashore. There are varying levels of accessibility around the world. Some ports are more accessible than others, and accessible vehicles may be limited. We are here to help you navigate and deliver the best possible adventure ashore. Getting to the ship: If you have purchased a Princess pre- or post-cruise hotel package or transfers, we will assist with arranging accessible transportation. Accessible transportation may be limited or not available in some foreign ports of call. Please be sure to submit a Mobility Questionnaire (PDF) so that we can make the appropriate arrangements for you. Going ashore: Most ports provide easy access ashore via gangways. Due to various conditions including the steepness of the gangway, weather, shore-side facilities, tidal and sea conditions, guests using mobility devices may be required to transfer to a stair climber. Our team will guide you based on local conditions to assure your safety. For the safety of our team, crew members are only able to physically lift up to 50 pounds (22 kg). In some ports, the ship anchors offshore and guests transfer to shore by water shuttles. When a water shuttle is required, guests using mobility devices will not be transferred into or out of the water shuttle, if lifting in excess of the above limitation is required. Many water shuttle ports do not provide wheelchair access so even if the guest can board the water shuttle, they may not be able to disembark ashore. Again, the shore-side facilities, movement of the water shuttle, weather and tidal conditions can also preclude the use of the water shuttle. The final decision to allow any guest to board a water shuttle or disembark the ship will be made by the Captain on the basis of the safety and welfare of all involved. Water Shuttle Ports: Airlie Beach, Australia Akaroa, New Zealand Alta, Norway Armacao dos Buzios, Brazil Bali (Benoa), Indonesia Bar Harbor, United States Bay of Islands, New Zealand Belize City, Belize Bora Bora, French Polynesia Boracay, Philippines Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Cannes, France Catalina Island, United States Champagne Bay, Vanuatu Conflict Islands, Papua New Guinea Cornwall (Falmouth), United Kingdom Crete (Aghios Nikolaos), Greece Dravuni Island, Fiji Dublin (Dun Laoghaire), Ireland Easter Island, Chile Edinburgh (South Queensferry), United Kingdom Elba (Portoferraio), Italy Exmouth, Australia Falkland Islands (Stanley), Falkland Islands Fuerte Amador, Panama Geiranger, Norway Geraldton, Australia Giardini Naxos, Italy Gizo Island, Solomon Islands Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands Grundarfjordur, Iceland Guernsey (St. Peter Port), United Kingdom Gythion (for Sparta), Greece Hellesylt, Norway Helsingborg, Sweden Huahine, French Polynesia Ilhabela, Brazil Isafjordur, Iceland Ishigaki, Japan Isle of Pines, New Caledonia Juneau, United States Kaikoura, New Zealand Kangaroo Island, Australia Ketchikan, United States Kiriwina Island, Papua New Guinea Kitava, Papua New Guinea Ko Samui, Thailand Komodo Island, Indonesia Kona, United States Korsakov, Russian Federation Kotor, Montenegro Kumano, Japan Lifou, New Caledonia Lofoten Islands (Gravdal), Norway Lombok, Indonesia Loreto, Mexico Maldives (Male), Maldives Mare, New Caledonia Margaret River (Busselton), Australia Maui (Lahaina), United States Mayotte, France Shore Excursions: As your destination experts, we offer a variety of experiences ashore. We recommend you review our shore excursion offerings and make your selections. Each excursion is noted with the level of mobility. Accessible shore excursions may not be available in some international ports, and not all port facilities are designed with accessible features. Do contact us in advance with any questions or for assistance with your accessible shore excursions. A completed Mobility Questionnaire will help guide us with these arrangements. Once onboard, our shore excursion team is available to assist with your adventures ashore.
  7. @trbarton this is straight from princess.com under accessibility. There’s a lot more information to find if you need it. Under pre-cruise FAQ’s. Mobility Equipment Guidance Here are some important things to know about bringing a mobility device onboard. If you will be using a mobility device or have special needs, we strongly recommend you travel with a person physically fit to assist with your needs both onboard and ashore. Although we do not offer mobility devices onboard for personal use, you are welcome to bring your own device. Alternatively, we do partner with the following companies who provide wheelchairs and other medical equipment for rent, and they can deliver directly to the ship. If a rental is a better solution for you, please do contact them directly. Special Needs at Sea: 800-513-4515 or 954-585-0575, or visit the Special Needs at Sea website Scootaround: 888-441-7575 or 204-982-0657, or visit the Scootaround website Please ensure that your mobility device meets the following specifications: Maximum device width: 22” for standard staterooms, 31” for wheelchair-accessible staterooms Maximum combined weight of the wheelchair, including guest: 600 pounds (weight may vary outside the United States) Your mobility device must be securely stored in your stateroom when not in use. This will ensure that hallways and other public areas are clear for other guests and crew to safely move throughout the ship. We do not offer alternate locations for mobility device storage onboard. For assistance onboard with charging your equipment in your stateroom, please contact your stateroom attendant. If you are bringing other mobility equipment onboard or if you have booked Princess transfers, pre or post hotel stays, Cruisetours or shore excursions you must complete our Mobility Questionnaire (PDF) and return it to us at least 60 days prior to sailing. Please be advised that filing out the Mobility Questionnaire is to ensure that our Access team can properly assist you with your accessibility and mobility needs. It is not an approval or confirmation of any request, nor does it guarantee being booked into or moved to an accessible cabin. Please ensure that you discuss your cabin needs with your Travel Advisor or our Reservations department.
  8. I don’t have any of those travel cups any longer as far as I know of. I’ve moved several times since ,matter fact they still had the plastic wrap on them. We just never used them. We’re not big reusable cup people and I certainly don’t want to carry one around on a cruise, I want to be able to leave my empty drink Glass at a bar on the ship .I don’t want to have to carry anything around unnecessarily . That picture I showed in a previous post was an example of what I had. I don’t miss the coffee cards, I do believe I have one in a photo book -the queen of steam -just as part of my cruise scrapbook/photo stuff.
  9. This is what my card use to look like, it was a punch card, I don’t remember tokens. The tumbler was given when you purchased a soda package. We stopped accepting the tumbler as we never used them while cruising or at home. Maybe they gave a stainless one with the coffee card, but I don’t remember that, nor did we receive one. We ‘ll long gone are these. I don’t miss the coffee card,so easy to not have to carry anything extra around to get a coffee now.
  10. I believe there are 3 non pop ups: Casual dining-Alfredo’s, Ocean terrace, & Vines. Perhaps see if you can find a Live from The Sky prior to your cruise, maybe they will mention one in their blog or someone will post Patters. Or ask once onboard,if the have Planks or Steamers ,since they alternate nights open. I don’t think Sky has either of those??
  11. @JamieLogical I am enjoying the following along and your blog and your pictures are great. I thought when I read your bundling technique earlier this week that you only took a carry-on suitcase and that’s it. But you mentioned that three out of four suitcases were in the hallway when you got off the elevator going to your cabin, so I guess you take more than just the bundled carry-on?
  12. @janny444 no they are not available, but here is a price list of individual coffees. Also, if you didn’t already know, you can get the plus (2 casual meals )or premier (casual meals -unlimited and two specialty dining and more-just look at princess.com )cruise fare package and it includes coffee, mock cocktails, bottled water, alcoholic drinks. Wi-Fi, and crew gratuity/appreciation. If you wish to just have standard fare and pay as you go, obviously that’s an option as well. But check out the price of everything to see if it’s worth it to get a package for you. . .
  13. @Cruise Feen not sure why you quoted me?? I was not asking the question. Just giving an answer to the previous poster. I don’t use a walker. Perhaps the person using the walker cannot side step, maybe that’s why they were asking what the width of the door was?
  14. @norwega I think the width of the door to get through ( clearance) is about 21”-22”. Actual door width more. Step up into bathroom would perhaps be more of an issue? From Princess.com-under health & accessibility -Please ensure that your mobility device meets the following specifications: Maximum device width: 22” for standard staterooms, 31” for wheelchair-accessible staterooms
  15. @D1324tt does your cruise show on your itinerary leaving/ disembarking at 3 pm out of Seattle? Or another port. Might be helpful to share that and maybe others can share with you their experience from whatever port you’re leaving from. I am not really sure what you mean by the ships app has you scheduled for 12:30 PM?
  16. @Cruisemeister2002 I would think the cost involved would also be how far do you need to go in port to obtain? If the ship carries it in their shop?? I don’t know the price. Here is a store in Portland, Maine & Boston. Sounds similar price to what you can get at home.
  17. @JamieLogical I have never seen or heard of bundle packing. Interesting. Happy travels to your cruise.
  18. @nick.haste.779 In one of the main dining rooms. There are a few paid upgrades that you can do. One is a filet mignon ($19), one is a lobster tail ($19) ,and one is surf and turf, ($29) -so both of those items. On the menu, it does not say what venue it comes from ,others say it comes from Crown Grill,( subject to availability - ship to ship) but who knows. That way your wife could have anything that she wanted on the included cruise fare menu and you could have one of those upgraded entrees and everything else included in the cruise fare right in the DR if that appeals to you. That’s why I said earlier lots of food choices to be had.
  19. Since this is not a tipping thread,… Plenty of the threads out there on tipping and it will never be solved. Many opinions out there & some facts. I don’t think we should keep going on this subject. Simple- if you don’t like the 18% gratuity, don’t order any drinks that have this added. Just have the drinks that are included in your cruise fare easy solution or go on a cruise line that it is inclusive. Tip if you want ,if you don’t want to ,don’t. The system is already in place. It’s not going to be changed at the moment, so just go with it. Doesn’t matter if you don’t like it or if you do like it or the old system worked or the old system didn’t. The 18% gratuity/ service charge whatever you want to call it on top of the price of your drink -on alcohol, soda, mocktails, etc. ,it’s there. And further, if you don’t give a tip to a bartender until after you receive your drink then how the heck would you get any better service?? Sure if you frequent the same bar all day long then perhaps ,but I guess I bar hop. I never stay in one place long enough to worry about it. Too subjective in my opinion .Does one really think that you’re going to get great or poor service when you order a drink ?that they already know that you’re going to give a extra tip or not . How about if you order from the ocean now? How is that person that delivers your drink going to know that you’re going to give them an extra tip or not? They’re not. There is no expectation from the staff to get tipped more from passengers, of course, if you want to give extra, they are not going to pass it up. Not our job to try to figure out the formula and how they compensate the crew. I’m on vacation when I cruise -the least of my worries. If you feel like you want to tip more on top of your tip already ( to make it 20% then do so) that’s on you -do what you feel is necessary. It’s your $ to do with what you please. The 18% is there for a reason.
  20. @nick.haste.779 I would wait till you get onboard and go to the specialty dining room of choice and ask someone there if it’s possible .I agree it’s a lot of food. All they can say is no. Of course it’s meant for per person $ dining -so have a feeling you would not be able to split anything -well technically you could split it ,but you’re going to pay for both of you regardless of how much you eat or don’t eat. Of course you can both pay the going rate and your wife can eat what she desires ( i.e. only a little.) ,that way you can experience the specialty dining room & menu or not go at all . In specialty dining there really isn’t a à la carte option. So I don’t know how they would break down the cost of two appetizers and no entrée. But ask away. For the casual dining restaurants like Alfredos, Vines, O’Malley‘s, etc. it’s a three course meal, but you can just have the appetizer or just the entrée, etc., and not have the whole meal and it is broken down into à la carte prices. So many choices on food while cruising. Welcome to your first post on Cruise Critic.
  21. My opinion is people carry around $ because they want to. Most cruise lines including Princess is cashless. Carry around dollar bills if you wish, not necessary though. If you can’t stand the thought of not tipping extra then do it. Not really our place in my opinion as passengers to try to figure out how crew are paid, not my job. They would not work year after year on a cruise line if they weren’t paid what they need/ want. On land in any country I try to adhere to what is customary, but I definitely don’t make it my job to figure out how much a server makes in wages or tips and figure out the formula on such. Yes, I tip- my choice on amount based on many “ things”. On Princess-Drink package, cruise plus or premier, or pay as you go all have 18% in the cost of “ drinks”, I am not privy to how it is all divided up, not my worry or job. Bartender & server staff gets paid. Sure if you have a favorite give them extra if you wish.
  22. Sorry this happened, but your credit card will do all the investigations now. I know all Princess ships are different and no I don’t believe they’ve ever had a changing room in the store. Usually they make you purchase the item and then if it doesn’t fit or you don’t like how it fits, etc. you bring it back for a refund. One receipt for buying, no handwritten “ note”. At least my experience.
  23. @bucky0926 no the lobster rolls are not complimentary. Here’s the menu.$15 or more. Not sure if this is a current menu or not price wise. It’s the only thing on the menu that contains lobster and the other items are complimentary .
  24. Since you’ve definitely cruised by now and this thread is still going. What did you actually wear in the main dining room? Formal night or smart casual nights.
  25. I don’t totally get some of your questions, but…. The bartender/ bar service crew do not get the straight 18% on your one drink or however-many you consume, if that makes sense. Drink package or pay as you go. No worries on figuring out on how crew makes $ in my opinion. Many crew on Princess and other lines must be ok, as many work for the line for many many years. If you order a drink through Ocean now, same thing…. It’s all accounted for. If you wish to give a cash tip do so, if you don’t, not an issue.
