  1. Unless you drink a lot, you might be best not to get the plus and just book standard and buy whatever drinks you want.
  2. Thank you. I was beginning to think I'd gone mad. To even think to me that any of these activities would be considered chair hogging to anyone blows my mind. 1. Getting up from your chair for any reason 2. Getting up from your chair to go into the pool 3. Getting up from your chair to go to the bathroom 4. Getting up from your chair to go to get something to eat 5. Getting up from your chair to stretch your legs 6. Getting up from your chair to go to the bar and get a drink 7. Getting up from your chair and returning within a reasonable amount of time to do any of the above, a combination of any of the above, or something not listed above.
  3. Entitlement to a chair I'm gone from for a few minutes to use the bathroom, get a burger and drink? Yeah, I'm a chair hog. You got me.
  4. I can't believe I'm having to type this to an adult. If I am at the pool on a lounger and I go to get a burger or slice of pizza for lunch and come back, I should not have to lose my chair. You can't be serious.
  5. Not sure if you intended this as a joke, but once they figure out how to do it, this will happen.
  6. Ah, thanks. I was thinking the discussion was about adding this stuff from the app. That makes sense.
  7. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Normally we put our stuff on chairs and drink our coffee if the weather is good, then go eat, then back to the cabin to change and back to our chairs. Might take 30 minutes. I think that is totally fine, and I think most people do as well. To me a chair hog is someone who puts their belongings on a chair and then are gone for 1+ hour not showing up at all. If I'm in my chair, and then go to the pool, the grill/buffet, the bathroom and promptly return to my chair, that is not a chair hog.
  8. Agree 100%. It's one thing to be in and out of your chair regularly than to throw a towel on and show up at 1pm.
  9. For me, it's usually walking, but people go to the gym and come back in 40 minutes is no different. 40 minutes is 40 minutes regardless of how it's used. I'm no chair hog. My wife and I claim our chairs, are back within 30 minutes, then are in and our of our chairs all day for no longer than 30 minutes, whether that's to get in the pool, go eat, etc.
  10. Please tell me this is a joke. 40 minutes is fair, 20 minutes is too sort to be able to leave your chair, go get food from pizza to buffet and a drink, eat, and then get back to your chair. I never mentioned dinner, just leaving to eat and coming back. Not to mention people who are in the pool the whole time. Common sense needs to be used.
  11. If you don't do the plus play, but want to add wifi and a drink package and pay for it prior to boarding, is that possible? I thought I read on this thread that you could, but looking at my cruise in December and I don't see anyplace on the app to add any kind of purchased services?
  12. I think 40 is about right. 20 is too short. I can't make my way into the buffet and eat and back in 20 minutes. 40 minutes allows you to go exercise, eat something and return. I think that is more than fair.
  13. If they don't give you one, ask the room steward, often they have some stored away for those who ask.
  14. Great. We were on 10 days in the spring and I guess I didn't even notice that it was $5 instead of $10. That is good news for sure. Makes the plus package even worth less if you don't drink. I will have to pay more attention, lol..
  15. Okay, I think I missed something. Elite gets the wifi at $5/day? Is that new or has it always been that way? And you have to purchase it pre cruise if you didn't book the plus package?
  16. Yeah, we just booked out next cruise without Plus. We rarely drink, and only on cruises, and I looked at the pricing and for a 7 day cruise the plus added $350 to the price each or $700 total. Gratuities, soda package and wifi will come to ($203+$140+140) = $483. If you do not drink plus is not worth it.
  17. Longtime Princess cruiser here. Went on my first Celebrity cruise a couple of weeks ago. One of the things they have you was a tote bag, but instead of it being like the Princess ones that look and feel cheap, this one was better material, and zippered, as well as had a smaller zippered bag inside. Very nice. And I get cutbacks at some level, but I'm guessing those tote bags cost them maybe 10 cents a piece in bulk.
  18. If they are filming on live cruises, they need to tell people in advance who might want a refund.
  19. Yes, I wasn't disputing that. I was stating that it was a cash cow for the cruise lines which is why they offer it and why most people take it. It's both a convenience thing, and a "I can drink all I want" thing, but the reality is most people wouldn't drink more than normal, and are spending way more money by having it than they would without and paying separately. It's good overall marketing in the name of convenience. And it must be working well, as all of them do it, and it's now a standard pricing item.
  20. Yep. Celebrity had this, it was $25/day. But yes, if that were a package option for me, it would be what I get all day every day.
  21. It's a win for the cruise line regardless of how much you drink. If you do the math, it's worth it if you drink more than say 3 drinks a day. That's why they have priced it where they have, they get people to pay for it, then many do not drink much, and ultimately they make more money from it. Packages are a cash cow for the cruise lines now.
  22. I will post here my comments. We just returned from our first Celebrity cruise after 25 with Princess. Just wanted to try something new. Celebrity > Princess Customer service from everyone was fantastic. Every employee greeted you daily with enthusiasm. Our room steward was the best we have ever had. Canned and bottled soft drinks and water. No fountains. That was so great. Princess should adopt that and do away with those fountains that only offer like 3 options. We were on the Infinity, and my understand was there were 1500 passengers for the week, so smaller crowd, but the embarkation and disembarkation process was way better than I typically see on Princess. Celebrity lets you order form the DR menu for room service regardless of cabin class. Now if Princess wanted to offer a perk that wouldn't cost them anything, that would be a good one to add. Princess > Celebrity Celebrity Internet was awful and expensive. Celebrity pricing in general was higher for everything including specialty dining which was ridiculously high. But they do typically offer more OBC to sort of even that out. Celebrity has saltwater pools Celebrity venues such as buffet, and burger grill had some limits on hours. The burger place closed at 5:30pm each day. Couldn't get a burger for dinner. I was expecting the food to be better on Celebrity, but I found it to be almost exactly what I'm used to on Princess. Was actually sort of disappointed about it as people on their forum told me it would be noticeable, but it wasn't to me. We are going to take another one, but will do so on a newer ship. I do like that even their newer ships are smaller than Princess.
  23. And one more thing. I love that the soft drinks are in cans, and the water is bottled. I loved that. Wish all cruise lines did that.
