  1. There are no more protocols, so it applies to all ports that subscribed to it. No cruise has departed Melbourne since the protocols were rescinded. The first cruise out of Melbourne is on Grand Princess on 23rd October. Passengers for that cruise are not required to be vaccinated - they will not be checking for vaccination certificates. There is a jumbled-up message there. Terminal employees are sub-contracted by the shipping agent and are neither port nor cruise line employees. Terminal employees always do the check-in process. and during the covid restrictions they were required to check your vaxx certificate. The cruise lines only required advance information so they could apply the 95 and 5% vaxx exemptions.
  2. All fixed, and ready to resume on Friday after cancelling two cruises to repair their "propulsion issue".
  3. Pretty much. Approximate prices, which can change any day in these times of inflation. We are on Splendor in December, and are pleased to have a healthy pile of OBC. Most beers in $8 to $10 range. Spirits around the $12 mark for generic labels, more for premium. Most run of the mill cocktails around the $16 - $17 Basic wines by the glass from $11 Small espresso coffees from $4 Small bottled water $4 Soft drinks (Coke brands) $4 Energy drinks $6
  4. What has happened to your Nelson Bay Marlins? 2023 would be one of the leanest years?
  5. It must be serious times. Fancy inviting traditional media to the PR events that are usually reserved for travel media and upper tier infloozencers. The stakes are high, and they will be shaking their Iconic tin vigorously. If Icon's itineraries shake out an Oasis class ship, that would be a possibility for Kembla. Oh, wait, they are already having trouble filling Radiance class cruises from OPT. If we were about to book the Caribbean, I would consider Icon, but only in preference to an Oasis class ship.
  6. Sad to say that after 30 years covering a few different roles up to CD then as a featured comedian, it would seem that P&O no longer requires the services of Demo Simis. Quite a few staff that you would consider to be "the face of P&O" are no longer aboard.
  7. A diversion in course. Looks like you will get to see a bit of Rarotonga, as that is where they are heading for a medivac. I hope everyone is OK.
  8. Not that I would question the source of the original comment as we haven't been a board for a bit, but if everywhere I went on the ship had a sewage smell, I would be inclined to check my underwear. There is something magic about your favourite pair of shoes. They are just plain comfortable, even if they smell from time to time and need a good polish.
  9. October 2024. Not to question the source of the original comment as I haven't been aboard recently, but if everywhere I went on the ship had a sewage smell, I would be inclined to check my underwear.
  10. BTW, read that. Also read another topic that has the OP cruising here in Feb.
  11. They do have restrictions. It is curious they have it detailed in the US passage contract, but not in the AU one. Wording extracted from the current US passage contract = “A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought on board on embarkation day, only if carried on in Guests’ hand luggage (not in checked luggage). A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person. Guests will be asked to discard open beverages in plastic containers prior to boarding". Also mentioned ... drinks packaged in bottles aren’t allowed. What is even weirder is that wording was first applied to P&O Australia nearly 10 years ago, and still applies to Carnival & P&O here. If they don't apply it to Princess in Australia, great.
  12. Wouldn't that give you the sh!ps. Not convinced about a burst pipe, as steel pipes don't tend to do that. Blockages cause back-ups and overflows which are bad enough, and while fixed relatively quickly, carpets don't recover so quickly. I hope P&O is compensating them for their inconvenience.
  13. Welcome to Cruise Critic. In addition to above, you can each bring 12 loose cans of soft drink in your hand luggage. Having some cans of LLB in the fridge is a good back-up. My wife has no probs getting Vodka & LLB, so they should be able to do a virgin LLB at the bars. Not being on the above list though would suggest it might not be included with the soda package. My overall reasoning - if you need to justify whether a package is worth it, usually it isn't.
  14. The change of one of the Noumea stops to Bundy only happened on Monday, and isn't that the reason for the topic being posted?
  15. Correct, the cruise lines don't do an embark tour. I was was suggesting to the OP they could consider doing the tour in a reverse order - doing it when returning to the airport after their cruise vs doing it between airport & hotel pre-cruise. If they are returning to the airport to fly home straight from the cruise, it pretty much kills two birds with one stone, making it a cheap & convenient alternative.
  16. I am not sure if it is possible for you to do this in reverse. Several of the cruise lines offer a similar disembark tour - City, Harbour, Bondi Beach on the way to dropping you at the airport. Princess currently has a 4hr tour for $AU70
  17. As gbenjo says, it was a covid protocol thing. It was the typical for all ships on their first arrival of the season, and they were being meticulous in making sure all of the reports were complete. This was a combo of Border Force & NSW Health, where no passengers could disembark until the ship had been cleared. We saw it first hand for Majestic Princess, and there were passengers still disembarking an hour after embarkation was meant to start.
  18. It would be easy to blame a chunk of ice, but even Royal is calling it a technical issue with one of their pods. Pity for all those that made their way to Seward to find that our after they arrived. I hope Brillance stays in good shape for your upcoming cruises. We have friends that boarded yesterday for b2b's x6
  19. No probs with Visa or Mastercard throughout Noumea. The main exception is the cruise markets, where most stallholders will only take cash (AU, NZ, US, XPF) dependent on where their ship has come from.
  20. I watched bits of your departure in the background of 9's afternoon news. I can understand they will make late calls in whether to clean or not, based on favourable weather forecasts. Some of the ships have gone to all that trouble, then aborted the cleaning because the seas weren't calm enough. Yes, port fees are not going to be paid to Noumea for that visit, and you paid them in your fare. They should be refunded as OBC.
