  1. Yes. That is where the pizza with a couple of drinks is a great way to end a night, best shared with friends. For me, pizzas are one of Carnival's standouts. Not only the late night ones, but the bacon & egg breakfast pizzas (has been a while, please tell me they still do them). The international café on Princess is great, but mostly only if you want another dessert or something reheated by sandwich press or microwave.
  2. Not just pizzas for late night snacks any more. Starting over the next couple of weeks, there will be a late night snack menu in the buffet, ideal for a couple of drinks after a late night comedy show.
  3. Amazing how cheap that rum is when you take away the taxes. No wonder Aussies had the rebellion.
  4. Correct. Corkage, whether at sea or land, is not a service charge but a deterrent to BYO. It had been $15 (I think) for over 15 years, and it seems the price of everything else has doubled in that time. It is still an option though, which is better than a no wine at embarkation policy.
  5. +1 agree with the responses. Note this isn't just a Carnival thing, but a New Caledonia thing.
  6. I am with you. Any cruising beyond 70 for us will be both a luxury and a privilege. I also hold that view that we will just about stop cruising when insurance becomes too pricey. Once we are retired, we will return to exploring the interior by road & rail.
  7. lol, I am not a lawyer either. We scored updated terms for one of our cruises late last year, where they wrote in something about the Captain having the right to disembark or confine ill passengers. That is a much more impactful change than the price of corkage. As far as I can tell, a passage contract applies to the current version at the date of sailing. They are mad for putting pricing into the document, as it ir really just a FYI bit that follows their alcohol policy.
  8. I would be surprised if you don't get an email with a link for updated terms. I will keep an eye on my inbox for November, but the only thing I will challenging is how many cocktails/martinis/XO's I can get through in 3 nights. Generally, anything you have paid for already (tours, plus package, specialty dinners etc) will be held at that price, but anything else will be charged at the price of the day. You still have a choice - pay corkage or only board with a max of 2 bottles.
  9. Going Sydney to Auckland, I would go for port side, mostly for the coastal views when approaching/departing each fjord. For the fiords themselves, best viewed up on deck or get a forward facing view - bear in mind that the Crows Nest and Tamarind Bar are likely to have all the good seats taken before breakfast.
  10. I figure $15 isn't much of a deterrent to doing BYO instead of buying their awesome plus package wines by the glass. 😉 I figure the world cruise threads will be unimpressed at the double cost of coming back with wine from each port. But really, how long has it been at $15, I am thinking it has been that price for 15 years.
  11. Edge is around 5% smaller, but they are very comparable. For the ships anyway. As for Carnival Australia vs RCI, it seems that Royal is less tolerant and will only call in Eden if they are able to dock.
  12. Rockies are still doable with little hassle, but cruises out of San Francisco do line up nicely with West Coast US - Vegas, Grand Canyon, Tijuana, LA, Disney. Do both, and also do Denali, but when it comes to comparing the cruises, the extra sea days from San Francisco are worthwhile.
  13. It could be a while, but Diamond Princess is cruising Japan, so anything is possible. Given the recent shuffle that will bring Crown & Diamond here, I think any possibility of Ruby coming back is at least years away. Sorry, I don't know of anyone. For anyone wanting to cruise Alaska, doing it from San Francisco adds some extra sea days and a better turnaround port with direct flights to boot.
  14. Splendor isn't a standalone, as it is a tradition for Carnival to have a bold mix of décor on their fleet. When on Spirit a few years back, I thought they had put the design out for tender but couldn't decide on a winner, so chose them all. Enjoy your cruise on the Pink Lady.
  15. You could be right. I get picked for the explosive test around 80% of the time I am screened at the airport.
  16. This is where you got the info, way back in June. At that stage, even their FAQ was out of date.
  17. Carnival have recently updated to this in Australia, a few months back. When Carnival arrived to base Spirit here, they took on P&O's policy. Since restart, the Australian cruises aren't being run separately from Carnival.com, so they needed to align more closely with what the rest of their fleet is doing. A similar alignment has happened around military OBC. Dropping the separate Aussie operation has been great, as their are lots more Carnival cruisers coming over from the US to cruise here. They have updated their FAQ, but not the email communication. At last check, their cruise passage policy document hasn't been updated either. You will be OK, they just haven't dotted all their i's. Funny now. You can bring a bottle of wine aboard, but not a bottle of water. You can't take bottles of water aboard because people have been caught out having them refilled with vodka. Now you can refill a wine bottle instead.
  18. We haven't been asked on any of the three times since the photo was required, all were early boarding on Princess. The govt protocols require the self test, but not the photo. However, the protocols also suggest the cruise lines do random screening, and while this initially was meant to be random testing, they applied the random photo check for this measure. I also don't know how random it is, whether it is a timing thing, if they identify anyone with a cough, or whether one or two of the check-in staff ask everyone that they check-in - no idea.
  19. I would suggest starting a roll call for your cruise here .... https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/forum/2598-carnival-luminosa-roll-calls/
  20. I didn't save a 400 Gradi menu, but this a Pacific Explorer "Luke's" menu from last year, hopefully visible. Prices were a little bit cheaper last year. The bread/oil/dukkah was also included in the 3 course meal, but I don't know about the other tapas items.
  21. Hi Leigh, Yes, still worth the money. @ceeceeDee posted here yesterday that it was $58pp recently, which seems about the same price as we had last year. On the menu now (at least on Explorer) all dishes are prices ala carte which initially freaked a few people out, but it is also listed with 2 and 3 course meal options. The only real difference to the previous Salt Grills is that if you want extra sides or extra desserts, you pay extra. The $58 three course meal is choice of starter, choice of main, 1 shareable side pp (at least I think it was 1 each) and a dessert. Plenty of good food. PS, no idea of prices for 400 Gradi though. It is ala carte. I think I have a menu here somewhere that might have some prices.
