I was speaking from experience. Maybe you spoke to a agent who did not want to do their job. Anyway good luck !
No...people are offering good advice. To claim you can book a GTY and then swap cabins until you find one you like is erroneous.
-
That's incorrect. Many of the categories that NCL offers even with perks are simply guarantee rooms.
For example, that same sailing on 12/9/17 on the Escape you don't even have the option to pick your inside room because the other categories are sold out. I is however available for a balcony room.
Balcony sail away guarantee = $549 per person
Balcony guarantee with perks = $749 per person
Balcony with room selection with perks = $999 per person
Which is why I said (except last minute). You are dealing with a sold out or near sold out ship.

NCL doesn't comp anything. You're selecting a fare that has the beverage package included in the price. It's like if you're flying and buy a fare that includes alcoholic drinks on a flight is the airline giving you free drinks or did you just pay more to for a certain fare that included drinks? Don't fall into the "but it's free" trap because it's not.
Example:
Next sailing on the Escape )12/9/17):
Sail away inside = $339 per person
Inside with 1 free perk = $499 per person
So you just paid $160 plus $120 in service charges for your "free" drink package...which means $280 extra per person.
So I can't really answer your question since it's a flawed question to begin with. As far as other cruise lines, MSC throws in free drinks at meal time even with their most basic fares...now that's FREE.
I'm aware of that. They are winning though because their model which can be inclusive of drinks is still coming in routinely less than their competitors where you have to add the full price + the gratuties to their base fare.
So while it is true nothing is 'free', they have found a way to pass on something the consumers overwhelmingly want at a lower price than their competitors.
Also, your comparison is flawed becaue you are comparing sail away rates which are always GTYs with the normal rates which are pick your own cabin (except last minute). That method holds a value itself just as with other lines so it just isn't the chosen perk that is creating the price difference.

As far as the UBP package...name 1 cruise line that charges $89 per day or more (plus 20% automatic service charge) for their beverage package and doesn't even include bottled water. It's ok, i'll wait...
Name another non-premium line that routinely comps the beverage package daily cost.

Can you share... how this can be done.. I am taking my in-laws on cruise. By this way if I can save money then it will be helpful.

Sure. Download the iConcierge app once you get on board. By the end of the first day your ship account will begin to show any promotional OBCs. The non-refundable amount will have its own line near the balance due so you can keep track of both. If you have a combination with some refundable OBCs your balance due will initially start out as a positive amount. Any purchases you make or drink taxes while in port will start automatically coming from this non-refundable amount.
Once the casino opens go to a slot machine and insert your room card. It gives you the option to load money directly to your player bank through your ship account at a 3% convenience charge. I loaded the amount and confirmed through the app that the charge deducted from the non-refundable amount and did not post as a balance.
I played the slots on and off for a few hours and eventually cashed out of the machine which gives you a ticket you take to the casino cage for cash. What you do with the cash is up to you.

One item to mention.
You figured that the $50 per port credit would put you $250 ahead of the game. To receive that credit, you must book onboard one of their excursions per port. After excursion is completed, credit appears on you account as OBC, to be used on board. Not a discount on the excursion.
Not one of the better promos, imo.
Ehhhh....no.
Same difference if you are charged $100 which is followed with a $50 obc or if they discount it up front and only charged $50.

Your experience is an anomaly. The standard policy is no use of refundable OBC at the casino. That would defeat the entire purpose of non-refundable.
Unless you did not spend a single cent elsewhere while on your cruise, you cannot verify that you used non-refundable at the casino. The OBC is not specifically matched against specific expenses other than being applied to either refundable or non-refundable expenses.
LOL...are you serious? Numerous people on here said it worked for them and you give this same tired excuse every time. I just did it 6 days ago.
It is quite easy to determine what happened considering the iConcierge app allows you to check your account by the minute if you so desire plus it also itemizes any non-refundable amounts still available along with the current balance. I used it on the morning of day 2 when the only thing posted to my account were the DSCs leaving the full amount of the non-refundable OBC unspent and itemized as such. I loaded money on the slots in the casino and when the charge hit it sent the OBC to $0 with no change to the balance on the account.
Simply, it was the first charge I made and it used the OBC.
Learn something instead of thinking no one else but you is smart enough to manage their on-board account.

I just used my non-refundable OBC in the casino last week so it certainly can be used there.

If you are using your SDP or the free specialty dining bonus, depending on who is waiting on you...you get 1 entree and unlimited apps, sides and desserts. Some allow those unlimited items and some do not. Seems many people have different experiences with this.
3 times last week and 3 different servers repeated "You get 1 appetizer, 1 soup/salad, 1 entree, 2 sides and 1 dessert" verbatim.

The strange thing is we don't average $20pp on food when we eat at Margaritaville. Everyone is around the $12 mark on average. It is way overpriced.
-
Not directly. You can indirectly through the casino by charging to your card at a slot machine and later cashing out.
-
No difference....the meal is still comped in the end. They usually tell you what courses the meal includes when you are on the package.
-
I took it as $16.99 + gratuity but I didn't actually confirm with the hostess. They never include the gratuity in the advertised price of any other dining venues so I can't see this being different.
-
The breakfast is very simple. Cereal, pastries, eggs and omelets.
-
Cagneys for us....always a great meal.

95% of the folks here have bags to check.
If you have a bag to check, you have to do the kiosk or counter at the airport. Part of the process.
And - you can get your boarding pass as part of that process.
WHY spend money to do it in advance?
....because seat selection on our airline opens st the 24h mark.
-
We were fully intending on a few orders of nachos with afternoon drinks but the cover charge made it impossible. We went to the bar at O'sheehans instead.
-
Yup. We went to the bar many times but didn't see the value in eating there. It was empty most of the time.
-
We ended up just going by the minute, there was no free program that I found just for flight check-in. I think I ended up using 8 minutes.
-
No, items are individually priced at this dining venue. There is no set flat cover charge.
Incorrect. Just got off this morning.
-
Pfffttt..... Nothing wrong with the food at Osheehans. I have enjoyed many meals there not because I had to.
-
Yup...just off today. $16.99.
-
Yes consistently cheaper. I️ waited until going back to Newark to use my first time Uber code.
Thanks for the info. Enjoying the review.
