  1. This wasn’t true on our recent 28 day cruise on the Mars. We always ate at 6:00, the “line” was maybe 2 or 3 couples in front of us at the most, and we always got the same table with the same waiter (our choice). I would not have been happy with long queues. Guess I am spoiled!
  2. Agree! And Skagen is fascinating if you are interested in Danish Art and where the North Sea meets the Baltic Sea.
  3. I have the Travelpro Maxlite 5, very similar to the Platinum Elite, but slightly lighter and much less expensive. It held up beautifully during our month+ long trip, including air travel. Still looks like new.
  4. If your flight is the same day as the Viking flights, you can book the transfer for $49. Even if you can return to meet the Viking flight, if it is not the same day as the Viking flight, it is a “No”.
  5. For the past year we have only purchased fully refundable tickets. If you consider the cost of insurance for cancelling and peace of mind, to us it only made sense. And for the past three trips, we of course have had no problems, thanks to “Murphy’s Law”.😁
  6. On our recent 28 day cruise only the speciality restaurants required advanced reservations. And sometimes you could just walk up to the restaurant and get a table without a reservation if tables were available, The Restaurant did not need a reservation.
  7. The cabin comes with a coffee maker and pods for either tea or coffee. Coffee is semi strong (I think it is almost as tasty as The Library coffee); I am not a tea drinker, so don’t have an opinion of the tea.
  8. Especially around Lake Myvatn in Iceland in certain seasons. Take a net head cover.
  9. We just returned from the perfect 28 day cruise. This time I wanted no hassles; it would probably be our last trip due to age. So I booked through Viking (no TA) and each time I had a question I could talk directly with Viking, not a TA. I booked our own Air so could get a higher cabin with miles months ahead of our trip, on the flights I wanted in the seats we preferred. And finally, as a last indulgence, we booked a PS3 so I could skip doing laundry for the first time on a trip. When we started traveling 30+ years ago, none of this would have been possible (we had two children to put through college). Why am I writing this? Maybe to show there are some perks with aging.🥴😁.
  10. I think it is a different experience for different people and luck is involved. Schiphol is huge; that is why so many connections are booked through there. Once you understand the layout and that you have to go through passport control to connect with your US/Canada bound flight, it makes sense. Look at a map of the airport before you fly; it helps to understand the layout and then cross your fingers for a short passport line (as we had). We flew Delta/KLM and were able to relax in the KLM lounge after passport control before our US bound flight.
  11. You can ask to replace the liquor with wine. We always request a bottle of Cabernet and a bottle of Pinot Grigio which are replaced as needed.
  12. Also lectures by experts on history, art, destinations, etc.
  13. We managed a month with just a carry on each…..but by the time the 4 weeks were over, I was tired of wearing the same things every few days. What made a difference for us; we were in PS3 which included laundry (I am now totally spoiled,) P.S. We left Stockholm this am, flying thru Amsterdam to our final destination. Made it through the Transfer security to F gate in under 15 minutes! AMS seemed very busy, but organized…for thru passengers, at least.
  14. 1) Yes. If you cancel by the deadline to do so (2 days before the excursion, I think).2) No, cancel the first one, then book your new choice. 3)Yes, you can book more than one, usually allowing an hour in between, but Viking will work with you if many have booked the same two.4) No mention was made of this. I think some people probably have a granola bar or something, and the restaurant hours are generous.5) Cruise Critic has some. Just ask and someone will likely be happy to offer an opinion.
  15. No, they only have cardboard cups with tops. Most people who have insulated cups/ thermos brought them on board with them or purchased them at a port stop. I have walked with the cardboard cup/top….worked out okay.
  16. 6:00 this morning. (We are docked in Gdańsk, so it might open one half hour later on sea days.)
  17. Our excursion tickets have our names and cabin numbers on them.
  18. The only “noise” we have ever heard from any cabin on Viking Ocean is when the weather has been beautiful and everyone is out on his/her balcony….then it is happy-beautiful-day noise.
  19. I posted this…we are on Deck 6, in a PS3. I don’t know about other cabins.
  20. This was the car service we booked that called us as we landed to say the car had broken down and no others were available. At least we were called, which I appreciated……
  21. We stayed there the night before departure and were so tired/jet lagged that we just ate dinner at the hotel which was very good( nothing fancy). Breakfast there in the morning was also good. We booked a taxi to the dock as we didn’t want to drag suitcases over cobblestone walks. We boarded the ship shortly before 11. From LHR we had booked a car service ( which called us shortly after we landed to tell us the car was no longer available as “it had broken down”. We just went to the taxi stand and took a Black Taxi from LHR to the Greenwich hotel ( had we been more awake and thinking we would have taken the Heathrow Express to Paddington and a taxi from there). Walked from the hotel to the Cutty Sark and all over Greenwich. Wish we could have spent more time there!
  22. Loved the Greenwich DoubleTree! Interesting architecture, great friendly and helpful staff, good food.
  23. Try the Fish Market….may not be the best, but it would be an authentic experience. Years ago you could buy a smoked salmon sandwich on half a bun, a cucumber slice on top for 10 Kr., or a paper cone filled with freshly cooked shrimp and sit at the end of the dock with your feet hanging over the edge and enjoy “lunch”. Times have changed, but the fish remains excellent and the atmosphere can’t be beat….except for the hoards of tourists!🥴😄
  24. Only the safes were missing due to a supply issue. No one seemed to miss them. If you were concerned, I guess the concierge would have put your valuables in the ship’s safe. I heard nothing about it.
  25. Not that I can tell. We are in our third week on the Mars and all appears normal from what I remember from previous cruises.
