  1. On Royal Class ships coffee is not prepared from a coffee concentrate which some call syrup. The OP is speaking about the Discovery Princess a Royal Class ship. Standard coffee on these ships is prepared from ground coffee. If you order room service this is what you receive. You can also order brewed coffee and espresso beverages for delivery to your cabin. They are included in the plus & premier fares. If you have the standard fare then there is a charge. In general Princess does not have coffee makers in the cabins. There have been some exceptions for sailings from Southampton where hot pots are in the cabins. Coffee concentrate is used on the older Grand Class ships.
  2. With Princess' new terminology Club Class mini suites are now called Reserve Collection mini suites. The word "premium" is no longer used. There are a few differences in amenities from regular mini suites with the main difference being the Club Class dining.
  3. With that many they may conduct a special table session. The cost for 10 would be $1,300 with wine, $1,150 without wine. There is no youth pricing and I really don't think the chef's table experience would really be enjoyed by children. An alternate to the Chef's Table is the Wine Maker's Dinner which is $45/pp
  4. While shows have no reservations it is advisable to show up at least 30 minutes early for guest entertainers and 45 minutes early for production shows. Many bring reading materials with them to pass the time. For production shows passengers with the "premier" fare package have a seating section in the theater blocked off for them.
  5. This post my help. As I remember the drop off area is rather small, pull through for taxis.
  6. Consider the direction of the ship. From LA to Hawaii the ship will sail southwest, and northeast on the return. In June the sun will be basically directly overhead. Bring lots of sun screen. Outbound port side will receive the morning sun with starboard receiving the afternoon/evening sun. The reverse will occur on the return. Views while docked were not very important to us. If my memory is correct while docked in Honolulu there are views from both sides. Lahaina is a tender port. Direction is based on the winds and tides. Nawiliwili, I think the ship docks facing out which means the port side faces the island. Don't remember regarding Hilo.
  7. No. It depends on the voyages. Each section of a b2b has its own voyage number. Each voyage counts as one cruise credit. Additional cruise credits are earned for full suites and sailing solo. In the OP's case, three cruise credits.
  8. Aloha deck balcony is 9ft x 5ft and covered. Like you mentioned it has two chairs and a table. You would have to bring a small folding chair to fit and it would be tight. Caribe deck balconies are 9ft x 9ft and half covered. You mention that a caribe Deck balcony is $600 additional. There are category BE (fwd) and BD (aft) on deck 10 with the larger balconies which should be the same fares as the BE and BD categories on deck 12, and actually less that cat BA and BB on deck 12. We have stayed in the BD cabins on deck 10 many times. They are nice and in a good location. We have been through the P.C. 5 times. The best views are from the upper decks, and deck 7/8, where you can walk around get 360 degree views of the locks and canal. If you remain on your balcony you barely get a 180 degree view of one side of the canal, and you have to turn your TV to the proper channel with the volume up to hear the narration. You will not be able to see the lock gates open and shut from a side balcony. The Emerald Princess transits the new locks. It fits easily into the lock with space forward, aft and on the sides. Tugs accompany the ship to keep it centered in the lock. Looking up from a deck 12 balcony you will see the steel structure of the balcony on deck 14 above you. Looking down while standing at the railing you will see a little of decks 9 and 10 balconies, some portion and the water. From deck 10 looking up you see the structure of the deck 11 balcony. If standing in the uncovered part you see the ship and sky. Standing at the rail looking down you see the deck 9 balconies, a portion of the life boats and the water. Balcony views which we always enjoy are those out to sea.
  9. I can't comment on your selection of itineraries. I can only comment about the flight. We flew JFK to Melbourne with a stop at LAX. The flight was 22 hours in the air, about 24/25 hours overall with the layover at 1am in LAX, plus the few hours before the flight at JFK and the travel to JFK. In total about 28 hours of travel. We departed late afternoon on Wednesday and arrived around noon on Friday. We flew 1st class, but were still extremely tired upon arrival. It took us a full day of rest to recover. We had 4 days in Australia before the start of a land tour, and that really left us with 3 days to be on our own. My advice is to carefully determine how tired you will be on arrival from the U.S.
  10. Caribbean Princess Balcony Category cabins are designated BA to BF and then B1, B2, and B4 All balcony category cabins have the same interiors. All port and starboard balconies on decks 11, 12, 14 & 15 are 9ft x 5ft and covered. Balcony cat cabins on deck 10 have a 9ft x 9ft balcony which are half covered. B1 & B2 cabins are on deck 10 mid ship with BE and BD forward and aft. All are the same except for location. Decks 11, 12, 14 & 15, BA to BF depending on the deck and location on the deck. They are all the same except for location. B4 cabins are at the stern. The interiors are the same as other balcony cat cabins. Balcony sizes & cover vary. The word "premium" has to do with location. These are the B1 & B2 cabins on deck 10. These cabins do have the larger balcony, but you also get a larger balcony with cats BE and BD on the same deck. There are no deluxe balcony cabins on the Caribbean Princess. Search the deck plans. There are 7 window suites on deck 6. They are full suites and are a nice value if you can get one of them.
  11. Believe this is tight. Remember that you will have to clear customs and immigration upon arrival. Also suggest you determine arrival & departure terminals before you book and the way to travel between them.
  12. Stock price is related to earnings, not customer service. Carnival Corp. has 10 brands which contribute to the earnings. The corporation also incurred large debt to pay its expenses during the shutdown period when they had no income. I can imagine that paying off that debt is a burden on quartely earnings which is directly related to the stock price. Customer service is a factor in generating repeat and new customers. In the longer run this may effect business and earnings. In any case Princess must get its customer service in order and solve its customer technology issues. If they don't address this problem they will probably see many more one & dones or after 40 Princess cruises I'm done with them.
  13. If you can walk in Boston walk part of the Freedom Trail. Take a cab to the Boston Commons, the start of the trail. In Newport tour the mansions, or some of them. Entrance tickets are required. You have to take a taxi to get to them from the tender pier. Halifax. There are lots of places and things to see nearby that you can go to. The ship docks right at the end of a long boardwalk that runs along the harbor. Interesting things along the boardwalk and the back street, including restaurants. In Bar Harbor suggest you book a tour of the loop road.
  14. Agree, cash. If you wish to provide additional tips beyond the auto-tip cash is the way to go. Amount is up to you. We generally figured $2,$3/day to the cabin steward at the end of our stay on board. Since we did not have the same waiters every evening and since we did not dine in the MDR each night we did not think it proper to provide additional tips to waiters. Never used bartenders. Never tipped entertainers. Entertainers are more staff than what I consider crew.
  15. I would plan on spending 3 nights in England. That means arrival UK Monday. Monday you will sleep most of the day. We flew from the east coast, 1st class where we could sleep. We still arrived very tired. If you arrive Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday you will be able to tour around some. Wednesday is a buffer day. You could book for arrival Tuesday, but there is little buffer in case of delays. When we flew overnight to Heathrow from the east coast we booked a private car service to take us directly to Southampton from the airport. Believe it is around a 90 minute drive. Southampton is a nice city. We did not stop in London as we had been there before. If you want to visit London suggest you plan on Monday arrival to provide a little time to see many of the highlights.
  16. It's your choice to provide an extra tip. We always do. The way we did it was: 1) cash, 2) placed into envelope with a thank you note, 3) directly handed to the cabin steward on the last day before disembarkation.
  17. Crew mainly stay with the ship during dry dock. The provide service for contractors, and some also help with dry dock jobs assigned to the crew.
  18. Just to be clear. The voyage is considered as boarding in Seattle and disembarking in San Francisco. That would be a violation of the PVSA as the ship will not visit a distant foreign port. For PVSA purposes t\each leg is not considered separately as a few have posted. The entire sailing is considered as one voyage. There is no problem with boarding in Vancouver and disembarking in S.F. That sailing is considered boarding in Canada and disembarking in S.F. which is allowed.
  19. It does happen at some ports. But don't worry, the amounts are very small.
  20. Port & starboard side cabins have a 9ft x 5ft covered balcony. Forward facing and rear facing cabins may have some cover.
  21. Try this. Write to CA Department of Consumer Affairs, hard copy. Include all the details and documented proof including names and dates of those in Princess you spoke with. Copy John Padget and the Princess legal department. You may not get results, but it probably will make you feel better.
  22. OBC Look here: https://www.carnivalplc.com/static-files/bc1b7f04-a3e8-4176-91ac-a529290fe45d
  23. Just in case you are not aware. You will be entitled to Club Class Dining in the Club Class section of the DR, as well as the special full suite breakfast which I think is in Sabatini's. Your daughter will not be able to dine with you in the Club Class section and will not be able to go to the full suite breakfast. If you want your lunch and evening meals together in the DR you will have to join her in the non club class section. Menus mostly the same, service not as good. The full suite breakfast is probably the best benefit. Way better than room service.
