  1. Hmmmm..... My High School is THE Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates NY (hence my cruise critic name) and I root for The Buckeyes of THE Ohio State University! I tend to refer to Celebrity ships with a /the/ before the name in posts and in conversation, but I noticed my signature is sans the /the/!
  2. The date of my post was just before Covid arrived so our cruise was moot! Wish I could have been able to tell you how it went!
  3. Re: Ports St. John's Newfoundland for sure since that Canadian province is only reached by sea or air! Bar Harbor gets you to Acadia National Park for nature. Saguenay and Portland are fairly large cities, but going up/dpwn the Saguenay River should be a scenic cruise. We've visited both those on land. IDK about Rockland except that it is one of the more unique, smaller ports on a NE/Canada itinerary which to me would be a PLUS.
  4. I am starting to get serious about a private tour in Sydney. Has anyone had experience with this company: All Tours - Blackwood Tours - Tours of Cape Breton? Thanks!
  5. I like your idea of the trolley. We often will do a HopOnHopOff bus tour in European cities after an overnight flight with morning arrival. Re: traveling with others. Don't be hesitant to "direct "the others especially if they are the procrastinating or vacillating type. Plan what YOU want to do, based on all the research and legwork you are doing, and tell them they are welcome to join in or present another idea. Have a gathering or more just for the purpose of discussing your proposals. Perhaps one of your group will have a suggestion that intrigues you, who knows? And of course, you all don't have to do everything together in either Anchorage or Seward,
  6. Thanks for clearing this up for me! Labadee will be a nice change from all the same 'ol, same 'ol Caribbean ports on the majority of Celebrity's itineraries.
  7. Looking at various itineraries for the Caribbean I see Labadee listed as a port. Is that the same as Coco Cay?
  8. Itineraries for the Beyond in April & May 2025 include Panama Canal. Since those voyages are r/t Fort Lauderdale, the Beyond doesn't travel all the way through the canal, but does anyone know if the ship actually enters the locks for at least a partial trip? if so, how does it turn around to head back to the Caribbean to return to Fort Lauderdale?
  9. This happened to me earlier in the year when I received an email from the BBTA warning my cruise would be cancelled because the balance hadn't been paid! The invoice was wrong with a higher amount owed as well as a much larger amount of a cash card rebate based on the inflated price! The BB clarified everything with Celebrity so all was well. My big surprise was that the cash card awaiting us was for the big bucks! I didn't realize the glitch was the fault of Celebrity!
  10. How feasible would it be to visit the Highland Village Living Museum in Iona when in Sydney? Possibly a rental car?
  11. For a splurge I would stay at North Face Lodge or Camp Denali which are up close to the mountain. north-face-lodge.com. Click on the Alaska Itineraries link for some suggestions. On our land visit in the mid-90s we stayed there but at current prices we couldn't afford to!
  12. @FloatyBoatyAgain Come on over to the roll call! August 28, 2024 Boston to Quebec - Celebrity Eclipse Roll Calls - Cruise Critic Community
  13. @FloatyBoatyAgain I just went to the Celebrity website. Fear not because I found this: View All Cruises | Find the Best Cruises for 2023 & 2024 (celebritycruises.com)
  14. Not S-class, but wondering about the OV cabins on M-class that were converted from public spaces on deck 3 and have the oversize windows... I saw an old post that indicated those on the starboard side are wider than those portside. True? Thanks!
  15. We had friends book for us while they were aboard a Celebrity cruise who did not book that cruise for themselves. The only advantage was the $200 NRD, no onboard booking perks were given since those friends weren't sailing with us. Conversely, I booked for friends while aboard the Silhouette in February and they received all the perks offered at the time in addition to the onboard booking bonus, which totaled $575, because we were booked on that future cruise. I was reimbursed by them for the $200 NRD.
  16. Why not consider a forward-facing OV? Here is a video of that category on the Apex. Celebrity Apex 9101 Stateroom Tour: Our FAVORITE cruise feature in this forward-facing ocean view - YouTube My only suggestion is to choose a cabin with the bed by the bath for a more spacious feel.
  17. Will waitstaff at the OV who come around for upcharge drink orders, e.g. fresh-squeezed o.j. or mimosas, take Il Secondo Bacio coffee orders as well? Never thought of doing that on the cruises we've had the drinks package, but finally making Elite Plus and not having package would enjoy coffee from there vs. what is available to all.
  18. We often cruise with my Bil/Sil who do not care for wine. They have been willing mules for us. They weren't with us on our Silhouette cruise this past winter when 2 bottles of wine per person were permitted. Thanks to the Elite happy hour perk, we ended up with one of the four bottles to take home! Since the Elite benefit is moot for embarkation day, it was nice to enjoy a glass of wine on the veranda!
  19. Let's not be harsh on the OP! She is relatively new to Cruise Critic and this may have been her first try for PUPs. If only she'd found the PUP thread here and posted her worry about not getting her PUPs after watching the webinar, she would have saved herself stress and 35 minutes of her time!
  20. I did find a place for Charleston on Cruise Critic! East Coast Departures - Cruise Critic Community Regardless, I am glad you did post on this forum because DD and family have a home in Charleston and we will be visiting there again next month. I'd not been aware of the Hunley so thanks!
  21. @LHT28 Tongue in cheek because you posted about the Hunley on the NE/Canada Forum......
  22. We might tour this when we are in South Carolina- unless this sub moves up north to Boston!
  23. Unsure as yet if we will fly to Boston or drive. On one google search a Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and Embassy Suites popped up, but without listing exact locations. Does anyone know of any hotels with such an option? Or should I look to airport hotels for such an option? Thanks!
  24. @JDPCruisers Come on over to the roll call! August 28, 2024 Boston to Quebec - Celebrity Eclipse Roll Calls - Cruise Critic Community Via land, we've been to Quebec and look forward to returning. And though we've been to Nova Scotia, including the Cape Breton Peninsula, and PEI, we've not spent time in Halifax, Sydney nor Charlottetown so we are anticipating new sights. So far, we've not booked/planned excursions, but I have found the Canada/New England Ports forum here on Cruise Critic to be chock full of information including links to private tour operators in each port. Aside from possible hurricanes, one other negative about the timing of this cruise is that it's too soon for fall foliage. As to the Eclipse, our first Celebrity cruise was on her when she was a baby and since then we've sailed her @ 50 additional days, last in 2019. Hope she's holding up well.
  25. I don't fault Celebrity for cancelling ports that are in a war zone or those that may be impacted by terrorist acts against foreigners given a volatile situation in a given area. Your money or your life? I know my answer to that question!
