  1. It could be the slot or blackjack tournament so it’s for specific dates. According to the email I received , there are 7 cruises with the slot tournaments and those must be booked by July 27. There are 2 cruises with the blackjack tournaments and that also has a book by date of July 27.
  2. I was referencing what the VIP designation meant. Invitations to the VIP events can be made with a free or discounted cabin. This is what our free play looks like for a free cruise that doesn't have a VIP event happening: And this is what it looked like for our last cruise (and one on the Majestic last August) which had a VIP event happening onboard. These cruises were both discounted: I still believe that the OP has free play on a discounted cruise on which a VIP event is being held. By the way, it's been my experience that if I pay a discounted rate, the free play is higher and if I sail in a free cabin, the free play is lower.
  3. Which dates? We are on the July 17th sailing and haven't heard anything yet. The Discovery is scheduled to be at the forward dock which is the one that is out of commission at the moment. So unless the dock situation is resolved soon or if not, they aren't able to figure out an alternative for us, we may face cancellation of the Skagway port stop. Have been there 7 times but I would definitely miss it.
  4. We did a "drive by" cruise on the Coral Princess in January 2020 and it was spectacular. The ship had to change out the fuel used during the voyages that entered Antarctic waters. We also saw a video about being careful not to let ANYTHING go overboard into the pristine Antarctic seas before every lecture or show so they were quite serious about keeping our impact on the environment to a minimum. We had planned to go back with Princess in January 2022 but that cruise was cancelled. Would love to go back some day, it's truly special even without actually getting to set foot on the continent.
  5. If you're a slot player, you should see it on the slot machine when you set up your account. Then you'll see a choice to use free play or your bank. If you don't see it or if you're a table player, go to the casino cage. Since this isn't something you were aware of, you should definitely take along the document that shows the free play. I had qualified for $500 in free play for the "Ultimate VIP" event last month. When I went to the slot machine only $300 appeared. I went to the Executive Host and she was able to fix it so that the right amount appeared on the machine.
  6. The VIP usually indicates that there should be a casino VIP event happening on your cruise and you're invited to it. You should have gotten an email or regular mailer with details about it. If that is the case, there will be details in your cabin when you board and you may get additional goodies.
  7. Crown is will be at the Broadway dock so you're not even scheduled to be at the Railroad dock. Any ships shown as RRA or RRF may be moved until they fix the problem.
  8. We are also on Discovery in July. It sounds like the larger ships like the Discovery, Regal, and Majestic will have to tie up at the aft dock and tender off passengers until this situation is resolved. Smaller ships that were scheduled to berth at the Railroad Dock will be moved to other docks if available. And if there are two large ships in port, it will be interesting to see if one will be allowed to anchor. In our 7 trips to Skagway I don't think I've ever seen a ship anchored there but it could just be that there is enough dock space to handle all of the ships. Sounds like the town wants to figure this out as they need the business. We were there on the Majestic last year and it was eerie with only one ship in port.
  9. Sounds like there was minor damage to the ship. And no surprise they will be shifting around ships until they can stabilize the cliff and repair the dock. https://skagwaynews.com/2022/06/23/rockslide-at-cruise-ship-dock/
  10. I just watched the webinar replay and was disappointed that nothing was said about the new class of ships. I think the only worthwhile tidbit was that they would extend the expiration date of FCCs if the itinerary of the cruise that generated the FCCs wasn't being offered in 2022. Not sure how many hoops one would have to go through to prove that but it at least may be a glimmer of hope for some who want to extend and are in this situation.
  11. Good that they've figured out a way for folks to enjoy their visit in Skagway. It could have been so much worse.
  12. Saw a bunch on FB and here's a video that the owner had given approval for folks to share. https://www.facebook.com/marni.newhouse/videos/434941794864529
  13. I just saw a report of a rock slide that happened this morning at the Railway Dock in Skagway. I saw pictures of huge boulders next to the ship but no information about any injuries or damage to the ship. Sure hope that's because there weren't any. Hoping someone onboard can provide an update.
  14. Wow, that's awfully short notice on the changes happening on the Coral - next month. Breaking them up makes it seem like they weren't selling well and I would have expected the ship to be filled up given the pent up demand. Very odd indeed.
  15. We've done two cruise tours through Princess and have gone on 7 Alaska cruises with Princess. Would strongly suggest that you do the tour first. You'll be very busy on the tour and after that it's nice to relax on the ship. Also, most of the flights out of Anchorage are redeyes so you'll spend a lot of time at the airport after the tour if you do it in the opposite order. Daytime flights from Vancouver are plentiful. Finally the southbound route goes to both Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier. We've been on all 3 ships and they would be fine for us. But for a first time to Alaska I'd suggest Sapphire first and Grand second. Both have a wraparound Promenade deck that is covered which is ideal for glacier viewing, especially if it's rainy. We've also been on the Majestic and there's plenty of deck space for glacier viewing, you just lose the covered Promenade option. I don't think you can go wrong regardless of what you choose but those are our preferences!
  16. On the Royal class ships the aft suite balconies wrap around the back corner of the ship. Some of these balconies are huge, others are narrow. The balconies on the sides of the ship are narrow on these newer ships. On the older ships the balconies are much bigger and the tub is a jacuzzi type. You mentioned a dedicated restaurant and there is one for breakfast which is very nice. It is only for suite passengers and is held in either the Crown Grill or Sabatini's. It has a special menu but you can request anything you want (within reason). Mimosas and specialty coffees are included which is less of a perk now that many folks purchase a Princess Plus fare.
  17. Have you paid for the flight yet or is it just a reservation? Have you looked at the airline's website to see if you've been moved to a different flight? And when is the flight? Lots of options including cancelling and rebooking it yourself if you haven't paid yet depending on the circumstances.
  18. I hope you feel better soon! You are canceling for a covered medical reason so you'll probably get a large part back in cash. But in any event the Covid Protection program provides a safety net of FCCs even without insurance. You'll need to work with Princess or your TA (if you used one) to discuss options.
  19. That's a crazy long time to wait. Here's the list of contacts per elliott.org - note that John Padgett still isn't listed - good luck: Princess Cruise Lines Princess Cruises is an American cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. 20. If your offer indicated that these perks were included, then any phone representative should be able to fix this for you. Here's what you should see on the Travel Summary by the way (free play should be whatever the offer included):
  21. I guess I will hold off putting in that order for Optum tests for our cruise that departs in 4 weeks! Hope they make a decision soon.
  22. Congratulations on making it. Hope that's the last hiccup you'll experience. Enjoy Alaska!
  23. When I have seen Southwest in EZAir, it is almost always Restricted. So if you book, say, an outbound Flexible flight on American, for the return you probably wouldn't see Southwest listed as EZAir will only pull up carriers with Flexible options.
  24. Will see if I can post the link next week after the call. It's the latter who owns the FB page where it will be posted, specifically, under "PrincessVPSales". 🙂
