I have not been to Taormina, and I don't think to any of Sicily. Three interesting days in history. I was privileged on one of my visits to Cape Town to step into Mandella's actual cell. I will add that from my experience the crews on the luxury lines work largely the same hours as their mainstream compatriots. In many cases there are no gratuities but of course the prices are a lot higher. I think originally Crystal had a compensation package structured the same way although probably at higher levels. When the change was made they were concerned that they would not get enough extra pay to cover the lost gratuities and extra taxes but it did work out. I priced Explora and wow on the fares compared to HAL. MSC has the same HSC as HAL so I'm not sure what the attraction was there. When Crystal went all inclusive I stopped tipping but started making a very similar contribution to the crew welfare fund. @Crazy For Cats when I was on Rotterdam I was able to increase the HSC without any need for justification but that may vary by ship or even individual at the front desk. I didn't realize HAL had a crew fund but I like it. Roy

It's been a crazy week with a number of changes at church and especially the cutover to a new implementation of the AV and streaming system. We had a long training session with the contractor last night and a practice session this morning. I know some people say the big ship is missing the point of actually being on Antarctica, I am thankful that I went on an expedition ship once when I was younger, but have been back twice for "drive by's" (Crystal Symphony in 2016 and Prinsendam) and felt like I got about 95% of the experience for perhaps half the price, and would love to go again. Roy

I just looked at my calendar and noticed today I was supposed to have boarded Cunard's Queen Anne in Fort Lauderdale. That's Cunard's equivalent of Rotterdam 7. I would not have been in a position to take the cruise but in any case I don't think the ship has even gotten to the stage of sea trials yet. Roy

And I can guarantee as there that whatever Crystal does somebody will say it was wrong and/or not enough. Roy

I like all the day's days, especially Boy Scout Anniversary Day which is now "Scouts, BSA" which is almost fully coed except that in the 11-18 group there are boys troops and girls troops. My Fire Department sponsors a boy's troop, a girls troop and a coed Cub pack. Not convinced on the quote. Newton was a true genius. I visited Catania just once, way back in 2010 on Crystal Serenity. I think I’ll pass on the meal. My alternative is Pineapple, Banana, and Mango Compote, Crepinette of Roasted Chicken, and Peach Crisp as served on MS Prinsendam February 8, 2019. I will be less active on the Daily for a few days. My church is upgrading our livestreaming equipment and I have training on the new equipment tomorrow and practice Saturday morning.
