  1. +1 on George - he can get you around but he's not a licensed tour guide so can't act as one, but just driving around he's very knowledgeable and personable. He also took us to his favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant (probably his cousin's - LOL!) that still rates as one of the best Greek meals we've ever had...
  2. I think you get use of binoculars, maybe a wool blanket, and there's usually an Illy espresso machine in the room...but at this point if the pre-cruise night isn't included, it'd be a hard pass for me. We've paid the extra for Concierge once or twice, it's worth it *sometimes* but for us, not too often.
  3. To add to the previous post, I've been collecting the suite reviews for a few years now, and I know that Splendor hasn't sailed that many cruises so far, but even so I don't know that I'd say there are enough reviews about vibrations to be overly concerned at this point. As @pnsnkr stated, there are many reason for noise and vibration, and of course different people have varying tolerances for this. I'd recommend checking the reviews and following the common steps to find smooth cabins, i.e. low and central. But just be aware that even the smoothest ships can be buzzy and shaky in the right conditions - they are big machines, after all.
  4. Pat, here are the links to all of the reviews we've been able to collect so far (I'm on a different computer than normal, if the links don't work properly you can find them in the first post of this thread): Regent Seven Seas Explorer Regent Seven Seas Grandeur Regent Seven Seas Mariner Regent Seven Seas Navigator Regent Seven Seas Splendor Regent Seven Seas Voyager
  5. Updated. Of course, you know this might cause a mad rush to reserve this cabin... πŸ˜† πŸ€ͺ πŸ˜‡
  6. The system must have recognized my name - when I tried to enter 'State' the only option it gave me was 'Confusion'... <rimshot> πŸ₯
  7. Having sailed on each of Regen't ships at least once (including several trips on Navigator) I can say that Navigator is without a doubt the buzziest ship in the Regent fleet. The new builds (Explorer and Splendor) are the smoothest, but being ships are still susceptible to some rattles when the conditions are right. Navigator's vibrations are noticeable pretty much throughout the ship (to me, at least) but only objectionable aft. She actually sails fairly smoothly at lower speeds in smooth seas, but when the seas are rough and/or she's making close to max speed, well, all bets are off. As to service issues, I'm not gonna try and make excuses - even with staffing issues, supply chain disruptions, etc. Regent promises a solid product and from some of the posts I've read they're dropping the ball on occasion. Pre-pandemic, I'm sure many of these issues wouldn't have arisen. Our last cruise on Regent was a quick run on Splendor in January and the only real problem I noticed was a slight decline in the quality and selection of the house wines. Service was impeccable...but we were also sailing at something like 45% capacity, too, so take that with a grain of salt. I should probably visit the Seabourn and Silversea boards to see if they're also having any 'restarting pains' or if this problem is specific to Regent... Our next Regent cruise isn't until next January and I'm confident they'll have these issues worked out well before then.
  8. Something to keep in mind, too, is that there's a lot more to vibration and noise than any specific cabin - while some cabins will naturally be more susceptible to noise and vibration than others, many other factors can enter into the equation as well - speed, direction, wave height, wind, probably even temperature can all affect the relative comfort of a cabin. (Not to mention individual tolerance for shakes and rattles, too). So while we can use SuiteGuru and other posts to get an idea of how a specific cabin might ride, always be aware that these ships are actually huge machines (tens of thousands of tons) muscling their way through often very rough seas (swells of up to 30' aren't uncommon) in all kinds of weather...so just be aware that, as always, "Your mileage may vary". PS - I actually like a little 'shake, rattle and roll' - it helps me remember than I'm not just sitting in some hotel somewhere. πŸ˜„
  9. Got it updated, thanks for the input! Konagolfer, I'm' assuming this is for Splendor - one question, though - you showed 866 as an F Superior suite but the deck plans show it as a Cat E. Did you list 'F Superior' as the cabin group, perhaps? I know Regent gets confusing with their classes sometimes, but I wanted to be certain this didn't get redesignated somehow. Thanks! We love it, too - the F2s are my favorite cabin, dollar for dollar. Kind of the 'sweet spot' for us in terms of size/layout versus cost. Thanks for the submission!
  10. I'm not sure where in SC you're gonna be flying into (assuming SC based on your location - we usually fly into CLT or GSP if possible) but the fact of the matter is that there aren't a lot of flights out of ANC so there's not a lot to choose from. I'd contact your TA if you used one or Regent if you didn't to see what options they may have - it's a good 2 to 2.5 hours from Seward to Anchorage as I recall or there's a train that can take you there as well. I'd check alaskatrain.com and toursbylocals.com, both will give you some options.
  11. I guess I'm in the minority in that I believe a good CD can make a good cruise better but I don't think a bad CD can make a good cruise worse. A good CD can definitely provide atmosphere and entertainment, and the relly good ones can also interact with the passengers to give them a smile or share a quick story...but we've sailed with some CDs who (in my opinion) were pretty much invisible and it didn't detract from the cruise for us. There is so much other stuff going on that one person doesn't make or break it for us. Granted, our longest Regent cruise so far has been two weeks, so maybe a longer cruise would call for a more engaged CD, I don't know. I think John is a nice, engaging, upbeat and enjoyable person and for that I guess I'm sad to see him go...but it sure won't affect our decision to cruise with Regent, that's for sure.
  12. Either Regiana or Ocaenent - can't go wrong!
  13. Does declining the 'included' hotel affect transfers? I'd suspect yes but for us that's always one of the considerations, especially in cities we're not familiar with or if the hotels, airports, and cruise terminals are far apart...
  14. The only thing I've been able to find reliably in comparisons between Regent and Oceania is: Regent has better food Oceania has better food Regent has better cabins Oceania has better cabins Regent has better service Oceania has better service Regent is the better bang for the buck Oceania is the better bang for the buck Amiright?
  15. Oh man, this is good to hear - I thought I'd read somewhere that he had passed, I'm very glad that was wrong! We saw him on some of our earlier cruises but never had the pleasure of meeting him directly (didn't want to intrude) but very good to know he's still well and back aboard Mariner. I hope they've installed his special lighting for him over his table. πŸ™‚
  16. No worries - sorry for the delay, work got in the way this week. πŸ™‚ This has been posted now. Thanks!!
  17. I think your enjoyment of ANY line in this post-Crystal cruising world will hinge directly on your ability to look at the positives and to avoid the "ooh, the other line did this better" comparisons. Not that you'd do that, of course, but it's human nature to compare and contrast - I'm a notorious over-researcher, sometimes to the point of being unable to decide one way or another! I know that if I'd have had the chance to try Crystal there are many things I'd have loved about them...but in the back of my mind I'd be comparing things to Regent. I think any time you spend a lot of time, money, passion, energy, etc. with any product, whether it be cruise lines, airlines, cars, vacation cities, golf clubs, whatever - you get emotionally invested. Truth is, these products are more similar than different - I'm a die-hard BMW guy, but truth be told, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, and others are just as capable...but mildly different. And that difference turns a lot of us into fanatics. We tout the perceived benefits and close our minds to the fact that they're all pretty damn nice. πŸ™‚ I hope Regent becomes your new favorite (because it's our favorite) but if you land on Seabourn or Silversea and you're happy there, well, more power to ya - as long as YOU'RE happy for YOU, that's what's important! Sorry for the long post - I think my coffee might have been a bit stronger this morning, and I just felt like typing.
  18. I think that *overall* Regent does a good job with their excursions, both included and extra cost. But like any bell curve, there will be both diamonds and (pardon the indelicacy) turds. The vast majority of our shore excursions have been good, some very good, but we've also had our share of D&Ts. Whever we encounter these anomalies we let Destination Services know, both good and bad. Maybe I'm too laid back but I don't expect everything in my life to be perfect. And when things aren't perfect, I let the people in charge know. Might not help me but it might help the next poor sap in line. πŸ™‚ And yeah, it's a bit different when it's a paid excursion. I think we've had one or two that didn't live up to expectations. We let DS know we weren't happy - and went on with the cruise. I'm not gonna let a bad $100 ruin a $20,000 vacation. Life's too short to be bitter, IMO. Of course, another choice would be to sail with a line that doesn't include excursions so you can book your own. But you know what? I bet you'll find the same percentage of good, diamond, and turd you get if they're included in your cruise fare.
  19. We've been sailing Regent since 2009 and have yet to find another cruise line that consistently provides as much bang for the buck. I know people on the boards have posted price comparisons that showed other lines beating Regent price-wise, but I've only run into that personally one or two times. By the time you figure in airfare (Business Class), excursions, tips, drinks, specialty dining, cabin size, etc. we've found that Regent is usually the best price proposition, at least for the itineraries we shop. I know there are some other players in the game (Ritz-Carlton, Viking, Atlas, Azmara, etc.) but when I price them out against Regent, for us Regent always wins. As always, YMMV.
  20. Seabourn was our (close) second choice when we first started cruising. We ranked them 1) Regent, 2) Seabourn, 3) Crystal, and 4) Silversea. They were all very close, but Regent ended up winning us over with the 'one and done' approach - truly all-inclusive. At the time (2009) Crystal still had assigned dining, smaller cabins, and fewer inclusions; Silversea was a touch too formal-feeling; Seabourn was a close number two but Regent had an itinerary that worked well for us...and the rest, as they say, is history. We're at the point now that it would be difficult to switch as we're so familiar with Regent's product - we know so many of the crew (and some passengers) that it really is like coming home when we sail with them. So while I theoretically could switch, I don't know that I ever would...but if we found an awesome sailing on another line, well...I guess it could happen. πŸ˜„
  21. Here is a quick guide to the suites on Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet of ships. It is populated with user's comments and impressions of the suites they've sailed in. Similar to the site "SeatGuru", it lets people know benefits and potential drawbacks to cabins on Regent's current fleet of ships. Regent Seven Seas Explorer Regent Seven Seas Grandeur Regent Seven Seas Mariner Regent Seven Seas Navigator Regent Seven Seas Splendor Regent Seven Seas Voyager I cannot guarantee the accuracy or currency of the data contained on these spreadsheets. Reviews will be posted unedited (within reason). Any entry that states "Not yet reviewed" was taken directly from the Regent Seven Seas website. Directions on how to submit your ratings will appear in a subsequent post.
