  1. It’s always a bummer when a river cruise turns into a bus trip. This is the type of situation where GCT’s “trip leader” model is an advantage. There are three, perhaps four, trip leaders that are on board the ship each with a group of passengers. Each group will stay together with their leader. Hoping all goes well.
  2. I saw this today and flashed back about 50 years when “VolksMarchs” were a big thing with the US Military in Europe. Granted it’s the Waal, but it is a part of many Rhein cruises and Nijmegen a stop for some.
  3. I found this in an old KD catalog. They discounted the Köln to Strasbourg direction for obvious reasons.
  4. On more than one occasion I’ve witnessed a ranger “educating” a visitor about appropriate light discipline. The North Rim has great dark skies as long as you don’t want to see the western sky. @$#&* Las Vegas
  5. That is one of my pet peeves. Along with the “helpful” guy who gets to the top of the dark stairs, then turns his cell phone light on, and aims it down the stairs . . . right into everyone else’s eyes. If you’re going to use a flashlight and shine it all around, get a §@#&,% red filter!
  6. Beat the heat if you don’t have air conditioning. Keep the towels wet.
  7. A converter weighing only 5 oz is difficult for me to imagine. Of course the last time I used a voltage converter rather than a dual voltage device was 50 years ago in our apartments in Germany. We had a couple of “brick” step down transformers at least 6”x8”x12” and heavy . . . 10 lbs or more.
  8. That is always a possibility, and not just with Tauck.
  9. …Grand Circle (another shameless plug 😉)
  10. Thanks Chief. Successfully used this fix after reading a post (from you?) several years ago.
  11. @StartrainDD Totally agree with your rant. Best of luck getting to Beantown.
  12. My apologies to the mod for opening a can of worms. Feel free to remove my previous post. I will refrain from responding to the post immediately above.
  13. There is time before the next Cup this year for knitting a warm jumper and tea cosy.
  14. One clear night on a small, <100 pax, ship several of us were enjoying a drink on the upper deck. The hotel director came up to see if there was anything we needed and “shoot the bull.” We were talking about how great the stars were even with the lights when he said that he might be able to arrange a special treat as he headed off. A few minutes later he returned with the captain told us to put a hand on the railing so we didn’t get disoriented and the deck went dark. The captain gave us a great astronomy lesson. Just spectacular!
  15. That’s where size comes into play. We have have probably all experienced the “on, going on Viking” response when telling people we’re going on a river cruise.
  16. And the English Women’s side. 14-0 . . .
  17. Surprised by the results? Size matters. https://www.travelandleisure.com/worlds-best/best-river-cruise-lines-2022
  18. Maybe that’s why there are so many compound words. You play “fuss,” then I play “boden.” 🙄🤔🤷🏻‍♂️
  19. So as not to derail the thread where this was originally posted, I shall respond here. Another word that can’t be played in Scrabble.
