  1. As my granddaughters tell me,”Grandpop, you’re so old, but funny.”
  2. Somewhere on this board I posted instructions on how to post a photo . . . Anyone remember where?
  3. I’m a bit confused. Which will you visit? Are there other English as an additional language speakers among pax and crew? What is the primary language(s) of the ship? As you probably know, English language tours of many sites along that route will be available . . . particularly with advance ticketing.
  4. We were fortunate to have a captain who regularly put the railings up when there would be a few hours of “safe” cruising on the canal and Main.
  5. A river cruise “party line?” 😱 Do tell! 😎
  6. @britthunt Perhaps you can summarize the article?
  7. Interesting item about findings as a result of low water. https://www.morningbrew.com/daily/stories/2022/08/21/drying-rivers-reveal-historical-treasures?utm_campaign=mb&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=morning_brew&mid=619a8ca4659878ca12b1f572eb8d3ea4

  9. Hot Glühwein cups make great handwarmers; empty ones make great souvenirs. Make sure you save luggage space to bring them home. As for fashion,
  10. I can attest that we received compensation due to flight delay EWR-OSL from SAS. That was preCovid, by a week. No compensation for getting home early on one of the last flights to the US out of CPH. Whenever possible, we fly a European airline ticketed by that airline, not a codeshare on a U.S. line, to Europe.
  11. Wish I could find a video of “Vegetables Are Good for You” from the old Food Rocks attraction at EPCOT.
  12. A CD’s flexibility and “outside the box” thinking make for great cruising.
  13. Are these hats/headgear also “un-German?”
  14. Chances of Americans passing as locals at a Christmas market are really slim. It starts with the feet and goes downhill as people look up from there.
  15. I wouldn’t want to count on a wet down coat unless I’m certain it’s really waterproof, and mine isn’t. I wear my heavy winter jacket onto the plane. It squishes just fine into the overhead.
  16. It was sent to my home and had to be signed and returned to get the voucher posted to my account.
  17. Go formal for Captain’s welcome dinner. Legs for Fran!
  18. V for Vantage or V for Viking. NDAs seem standard for Vantage . . . they wanted us to sign one for a stinkin’ $500. It wasn’t even real money; it was just a voucher. Also Elbe low water related with a different Boston based small line. About ten days/2 weeks the cruise was changed to a bus trip with several nights on the ship and the remaining nights in a hotel. We did everything on the original itinerary plus the optionals were included at no cost. At this point I don’t recall the amounts . . . cash refund based on the fare paid and a FCC. Those who decided to cancel were offered full refund plus a generous FCC. No NDA required. About half decided to take the trip and we all had a great time.
  19. I don’t comprehend measurements in l/sqm. We get weather reports in inches of accumulation (depth), sometimes per hour, but more typically in total per day, or per storm. Anyone know how to convert?
  20. Anyone have experience with their regular economy? Will they set up open jaw flights and flights that depart Europe from another city after an independent extension?
  21. @Canal archive I guess at 14 on a school trip you weren’t also able to begin a love of beer on that trip.
  22. Not always for sure. We had very high water on the Upper Danube in August for our first cruise 15 years ago. Ships after us were unable to make it under the low bridge.
  23. Now I need to do a search. We cruised on the River Concerto a couple times. I’m interested to see how she looks after refurbishment. Search finished. https://valueworldcruises.com/cruise-ships/ms-vivienne/ She is definitely a different ship. Previously, no suites, now it has a few. The top two decks now have French balconies, previously top deck had real balconies with space deducted from cabin and the next deck down had sealed windows. Much more modern look.
