  1. Shame on RC . This is outrageous . The paltry compensation offers add insult to injury . The fact that these were GTY cabins should shift NONE of the blame onto the passengers . This should read Royal managing to get double revenue on a few cabins . They already got paid once .
  2. Important post . Some people LIKE leisurely service . I prefer sub ninety minute dinners but a two hour formal night with a good bottle isn't horrible . 😁
  3. Exactly . I've found a quick polite conversation works wonders . Without this request meals can be two hours . Sometimes this convesation doesn't help. On our last cruise our waiter couldn't/wouldn't move things along . We changed tables and dinner went from two hours to 75 minutes.
  4. DW and I have a deal . Whoever feels stronger about an issue decides . In this case I feel stronger about not getting the package . If like HAL , Princess starts charging for bringing on the first bottle of wine that might change things . The incremental cost to Princess of the Wi-Fi is pretty well zero . So yes the profit on drinks is big but on Wi-Fi it's even bigger. And not to start a fight but do they really remit the full tip money to the staff ? Agreed with a small quibble . I've always heard that they barely break even on the cruise fare itself . It's all the extras that really pay for those millions in bonuses .
  5. Wow - A thousand posts . Nuts actually . My first cruise was just 12 years ago and it was a different world cruise ship smoking wise. There was smoking everywhere ! Even in the non-smoking areas, the smoke rolled in . I remember so much stench on our balcony that we were chased indoors , pillows that smelled and a piano bar we couldn't tolerate . A here we are . Smoking allowed in very very few places on board . We are thrilled . Yes we would be happy if there was a complete smoking ban but the situation is so so much better .It's hard to complain but some will .
  6. I'm beginning to feel you are being sarcastic . Just a feeling .
  7. A big oops for us this summer . We booked the Pinnacle at the Pier which is in North Vancouver ! Wrong Pinnacle . 😬 It all worked out as our Pinnacle was just beside the ferry which goes between the two ports . Very nice Hotel even if it was a mistake .
  8. I don't think CCL will eliminate the shareholder and veteran benefit programs but they very well might stack them. In other words, use one or the other but not both. Some will squawk but the bad pr will be limited. RCL does this. (I'm not saying they should do so)
  9. And Golden Lion menu. Highly recommend the duck wings, lamb shank and excellent burgers. The service was hit or miss
  10. Well perhaps outside of big cities in Britain and small villages in India but compared to other cruise brands it is cheap . 🍺 Cheers .
  11. I was wrong . I meant less then $7 . Here's a pic taken from the pub menu .I hope you can read it.
  12. I was unable to book air on the Cunard site before the cruise . With other cruise lines, such as Princess and HAL, you can pick your flights and make your reservations. You don't need to even have an actual booking to see what's available . Yes a lovely deep balcony #5050 . Yes . It's not onerous . Collars and long pants after 6 pm in half the ship including the MDR's and theatre . Formal nights they refer dark suits .
  13. I recently got off the Queen E , my first Cunard cruise . It was an incredible Alaskan cruise with great weather . This was our seventh cruise line and found it was absolutely the best in many areas and the worst in just one . For the most part this is a comparison between brands but sometimes it's specific to an individual cruise . This is not a full cruise review but am happy to elaborate on any issue . THE VERY BEST Value - The combination of all the amenities and a great price . It's clear why from the following observations . Cabin cleanup twice a day - No questions or push towards once a day . Fancy coffee free at MDR - Expresso's , Americano's etc. , all without charge . Overstaffed MDR - Amazing service .Perhaps not overstaffed . How about well staffed . 😉 Enrichment - They had so much enrichment . There were bridge, dance, port, naturalists and many other experts . Such a pleasure and so impressive . It's been a decade since we've seen a fraction of this . This is probably the biggest difference between Cunard and the rest. Free shuttles - They provided transportation in two ports at no charge . In Victoria we were moored between a RC and a NL ship. Our shuttle was free . Theirs were a $15 fee . (I assume roundtrip but who knows ). Carry On Drinks and Wine - Bringing on sodas and other liquids is fine. Wine may be limited to two but possibly more . Uncrowded- So much space . Never a line up anywhere . Others brands would and do squeeze on many more on . Fully heated outdoor pools - Not just heated but 85+ with clean unsalted water NO pushy sales tactics -None! This includes photographers and spa people . Such a pleasure Fair drink prices - So fair . Fine British 500ml beers at less then $6 . Wow ! Afternoon tea - A Cunard specialty . Lovely and served in the Queen's Room. Best British Pub- The Golden Lion Pub was great with good food, music and of course so many beers and ciders . Little touches - There were so many of these such as $5 blackjack and free disposable rain ponchos . I'm sure I've forgotten some bests . THE WORST Technology - Both on an off the ship this was a fail . I honestly believe many of their customers like it this way . Off ship you couldn't make your own flight arrangements and other functions we've come to expect . On board their app was extremely limited . One day we wanted to pay for internet . It was down almost entirely . The charges were refunded but still. These were my takeaways from a single eleven day cruise . I realize the industry is changing fast but hope as many of these pleasures as possible are retained . The experience was a delight .
  14. So you'd enter from 3 if you have fixed dining and Deck 2 for open sitting ?
  15. So you are willing to be rude to another CCer to to prevent a hypothetical situation on board that could possibly happen to someone somewhere . Thanks . We changed from open seating when we discovered late seating was 7:45 instead of 8:30 and read that open seating can be a mess . We went to our booking to change it . You could also call but try changing it on-line first as it's faster .
  16. Thank you deckchair and addo . Great help . Is my table card in my cabin ?
  17. We will be on the next QE cruise and chose the late seating option . I tried to find a deck plan showing individual tables as we would request a window location from the M'D if possible. Is there such a deck plan ? I'm not sure if we will be on deck 2 or 3 and assume one deck is for open seating. thanks
  18. In two weeks we will be on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth where formal is referred to as Gala Evenings . As I understand it's only recently that dark business suits were allowed instead of tuxedos or morning suits (with or without tails ). This will be different but we are looking forward to it . I mostly stay out of the MDR clothing wars except to say I don't care what others wear.
  19. My last guarantee cabin was Princess, notified 5 days out . It looked like a poor cabin location but it turned out great . Before that on HAL I was notified about 35 days out and two days later was offered a great upsell which I took . I haven't heard of any overbooking on the CCL brands . This seems to be a RCL brands issue .
  20. Any idea when Starlink will be installed on the QE ?
  21. Given your title, "Dress Code.... without any Luggage. It Can Be Done." I was expecting something different . 😉 This was absolutely fabulous service by Cunard . The fact that you booked a suite was clearly very helpful .
  22. I was surprised to find this hadn't been done on the Queen E either . A missed opportunity .
